Advantages: Many colours, quick drying, easy to apply, nice packaging, cheap
Disadvantages: None
After using the Barry M dazzle dusts and being very impressed with them, I thought I would give their nail varnishes a go as I had noticed a few colours I really liked. I wasn't actually expecting this Nail Paint to be that good since I thought maybe the Dazzle Dust was Barry M's specialty and the Nail Paint just an extra product in the range, but I was proved wrong after using one for the first time.
This Nail Paint comes in 10ml glass bottles with pretty gold lettering on the front and a black lid that has a clear applicator attached. On the back it advises you to shake it well, keep from heat and apply a basecoat before use. I use a basecoat which is supposed to help brittle nails but unfortunately doesn't work! Using any clear nail varnish is fine. Also, if you add a clear glitter varnish to the top of a colour it gives it a nice sparkle and shimmer without ruining the colour underneath. The first thing I liked about this was how easy it is to apply. It isn't too thick but it's best to let some of the varnish run off the brush before applying so you don't spill it onto your skin. The brush is quite long making it easier to control as I find shorter brushes harder to use since it's more difficult to see what you're doing. If any of it does spill off onto your skin at the side of your nails, this easily peels off when it dries. Once you do that, you get a professional looking manicure! I find that you only need two coats, but that's with the two colours (green anc gold) I own - some might need more but it's up to you how vibrant you want it to look. One thing I can't stand when it comes to nail varnish is having to wait hours for it to dry, but with this Nail Paint there's no need for that as it dries fast. It does stay a little tacky for a while though, but only a little - if you press it with another nail tip it leaves a small groove in it but touching it won't leave fingerprints or anything like that. Another great thing is that it lasts around a week or more - I've had some on for over two days now and it still looks just the same as when I applied it.
Another great advantage is the colours available. There are very light colours, like ones you could use to do a French manicure (light pink, skin tones) as well as glittery colours. I haven't tried the glitter ones myself as I'm usually disappointed by glitter nail varnishes as they're mostly clear with a few bits of glitter when you apply them but considering how much I like the colours of this Nail Paint I own, I'll definitely give them a go. There are also some very bright neon colours like yellow and orange. Not really my kind of colours but neon shades are popular at the moment. There are dark shades too, like black, and some lovely colours that are in between the neon and dark shades. I own a gold shade and a green, which I'm wearing now - it's a lovely emerald green colour with a beautiful shine to it. The gold is really just like painting your nails with real gold! A silver is also available, and another colour I've had my eye on is a lovely aqua colour that's somewhere in between blue and green and has glitter particles mixed in. As well as this I also plan to buy a red glitter shade, which I'm hoping will look the same on my nails as it does in the bottle.
It retails at £2.95 a bottle but there's usually an offer on with the Barry M range, sometimes you can get these at two for £5. Considering the high prices of some competitors, however, I'd say this is a bargain. It's really worth giving a go as there's something for everyone to try, just like with the Dazzle Dusts and it's easy to use.
Summary: Great easy to use colours
