Advantages: A gorgeous yellow shade, brush is easy to use, quick and easy to remove
Disadvantages: Stains nails if you do not use a base coat, not a terribly durable polish
It's not often I paint my nails as frankly I don't have the time or inclination to do so on a regular basis, but on the morning of my Easter party my 12 year old granddaughter arrived with a bottle of bright yellow nail varnish from the Barry M range that apparently I just 'had' to wear for the party.
Now, I'm 62 years old so my nails were painted not for fashionable reasons but simply because my two older granddaughters' and both of my daughters were wearing the shade and I was urged to do the same. In the end my youngest son in law had his nails done by my granddaughter's friend too, but the less said about that the better!
I found the nail paint very easy to apply, the brush is quite short and stubby which I finds aids the application. I used another brand of nail varnish recently that had such a long and wobbly brush that I ended up giving up after just two nails and in a bit of a temper threw the whole bottle of varnish in the bin.
Even after the first coat the colour is bright and vibrant, this is actually the perfect colour yellow for an Easter party because it's such a happy summery shade. I applied two coats and this gave the colour depth and also ensured that I hadn't missed any bits of my nails as I am by no means an expert in nail artistry!
I hadn't used a base coat and when I removed the yellow varnish the following day I noticed it had stained my nails a little and made them look an off-white colour. This had disappeared by the next day thank goodness as I am proud of my unadored white finger nails usually and hated the yellowish tinge they had been left with after using this polish.
Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that this nail paint does not seem to last very long, mine chipped within hours of application and when I awoke the following morning my nails had the appearance that they had been painted much longer ago than the previous day. The paint was beginning to crack on one of my nails which isn't good and it looked as though it were beginning to wear away at the tip of another nail. I suppose the vibrancy and wackiness of the shades available in the Barry M range means you would not be wearing the paint for too long and it's more of a night out range, but still I'd expect it to last longer than that.
Removing the polish was as easy as removing any other brand. I used a gentle nail polish remover as the acetone in some affects my asthma rather badly, it took me less than five minutes to completely remove the polish using this and cotton wool which is about average I think.
I have just asked my granddaughter where she bought the nail paint from and she told me Superdrug are very good for stocking the entire range and she paid £2.79 for this 10ml bottle. She tells me there are all kinds of shocking shades in the nail paint range including bright green, pink, purple, blue and black.
Summary: I never thought I'd say yellow nails looked great!

- 27/04/09 Barry M are great for crazy colours. I've got the purple on my toes at the moment, if I had a tan I'd try the orange, I've seen a few girls wearing it, and it looks surprisingly good! |
