Advantages: Flattering colour, very long lasting, moisturising
Disadvantages: Can be a bit hard to remove
I'll be honest and start out by saying I've never used Barry M products before as I've assumed they're a bit cheap and tacky. After reading lots of good reviews of the Touch of Magic lipstick on here though, my curiosity got the better of me and I had to buy one just to see how it would work on me.
The lipstick has fairly standard packaging. It's a black tube with a removeable cap. When I bought it, it had a plastic wrapper so I knew it hadn't been used. This was easy to remove thanks to the usual perforated strip that you can pull off.
When you open the lipstick, you might be surprised by the colour. It's a very bright green and looks like it's more suited to a child playing dress up than a sophisticated make up look. Don't let that put you off though. This is no ordinary lipstick and once applied is pink. The idea is that it changes to a flattering shade of pink depending on how alkali your lips are. I wasn't convinced, after all how can it tell what will suit you based on pH?
I found this lipstick went on very smoothly. It's a lovely creamy texture and felt moisturising on my lips. It goes on pink rather than green and then changing which was one of my concerns. After a few minutes it settled to a lovely vibrant pink. I don't know how it did it, but it was a fantastic shade for me, and the kind I would pick out myself. It looked matte which is unusual and I liked it. If you prefer a glossy look, I tried lipgloss over the top and had no problems with the colour changing or feathering around my lips.
It claims to last for 8 hours, which I was sceptical about, but once again proved wrong. This lipstick stayed on all day- I didn't need my usual top ups after lunch and when I finish work- and I had minimal transfer onto glasses, mugs etc. I did find it a little difficult to remove though. You'll need a good make up remover or your lips might be left a little stained.
I paid £4.99 for this from Superdrug. It's also available from Boots and online. It's definitely worth it for the staying power alone.
I'd recommend this to anyone- it really does work magic.
Summary: This lives up to it's claims and proves it's not a gimmicky product
