Advantages: it's like a home chemistry set

Disadvantages: formula a little drying, it stains

The stick is green, the colour payoff is pink! Not only is it pink, it also promises to create the perfect pink for your personal skin tone. Now as I'm happily clicking through my BarryM online order I know full well this is always going to be a swatch and ditch lipstick. I just know it. I've been here before (thank you DuWop and TooFaced), but dammit... I... just... can't... help... myself... click, click, add to cart, give Paypal password.

I have to also admit to being on the edge of my seat with barely contained excitement waiting for the post when it arrives, and then to tearing out my new lipstick and running to the bathroom with it clutched in my hot, sweaty hand.

The result? Yes, it is a green lipstick. And yes, when you put it on it turns pink. I'm not sure what the chemical reaction truly is but my guess would be that it involves some kind of PH acid/ alkaline type test and that the shade it turns depends on the PH levels in your skin rather than in it instinctively guessing what colour your hair, eyes, and skin are. Do people with darker skin have different PH readings? I'm not a scientist but I'm pretty sure the answer to this will be a no. I also found that it had a slightly funny smell and that the formula was drying on my lips.

Was I disappointed in my purchase? Not at all. I treated it all like a huge science experiment and tried it with different lip treatments and glosses underneath to see how the colour changed each time. I was also left with pretty pink lips for a good six hours afterwards. I can see how, if the colour wasn't exactly correct for you the staining effect could be a little tiny problem for the next six hours, but if you are lucky, you might find that TMLP becomes your absolute favourite lip stain.

I also... even knowing that I personally wasn't going to keep it and wasn't 100% convinced on the formula, ended up buying it for several of my friends for Christmas. After all, it is undoubtably an afternoon's fun, and at £4.25, it isn't going to break the bank for that afternoon of fun!

Summary: It's green... but it's pink... is it the perfect pink for you?
