Advantages: Price, colours, easy to use and blend, last well

Disadvantages: Mirror is pointless, the packaging is pretty boring

I first spotted this palette in Superdrug when I was buying myself the Eyeko cream I recently reviewed. At under £3 for ten colours I thought it would be about as much use as a chocolate teapot. They only had one of the palettes in my local store, the one shown at the top of this review, #1, which are pastel colours - not my normal kind of colour but I really liked the greens in it and for the price I knew if I wasn't impressed I could pass it on to my other half's neice without crying about the cost.

What It Looks Like:

It's a basic rectangular palette with a see through lid, each colour is between a 5p and 10p coin in size, and there are ten of them. Ranging from lemon to a bronze brown colour there's something for everyone. It includes a double ended sponge applicator which is housed on top of a narrow mirror at the bottom of the palette.

Frankly the mirror is a bit of a waste of materials as it's too narrow to really use for anything. I never use the sponge applicators either but they're standard in most eyeshadows so I just tend to ignore them.

First Impressions:

I have to admit I was surprised and delighted at how pigmented the eyeshadows were after swatching them on the back of my hand. This was just the kind of thing I needed to expand my eyeshadow collection after throwing a lot away recently and buying duds that were no good for me and I then passed on to friends. It'd be brilliant for someone new to make up who wanted to experiment with colours.

Using The Eyeshadows:

I've used these several times now, a couple are very slightly chalky, they all have a lovely kind of sheen or shimmer to them when applied and they blend well with the other shadows in the palette and with other brands of eyeshadow too. I did use them on top of Urban Decay Primer Potion however as I wasn't sure how long they would last without fading, but I am pleased to tell you that they lasted from around 7:30am until 12am with the primer so probably would still last well without. The lemon does fade a bit more than any of the others I have used (I've not used the white or silvery colours) which is probably due to it being such a light colour.

I love using the lemon in the inner corner of my eyes, lilac in the middle blended with blue on the outer corner. It makes me feel light and sunny lol, it's quite subtle due to them being pastels, not at all over the top so doesn't look like I am wearing a rainbow above my eyes but I get complimented a lot on it.

The darker green looks great with the browns, and they are just so many different looks you can get out of the entire palette - everytime I look at it I get inspired which is what a palette is supposed to be about!

My Final Thoughts:

What can I say, I love it! Not just because it was cheap either, I would have been happy to pay more for this but the price does me make me feel doubly impressed with the whole thing. I've already recommended it to a couple of friends and shown them the colour pay off, they were as impressed as me and shocked at the price.

I plan on buying two of the other palettes when I can find them, they also do a shimmer, bright and glitter version. The fact that they're called BeautyUK makes me all warm and fuzzy that I'm buying a homegrown product.

I'd buy this as a gift for anyone I know, and explain that yes, the palette itself does look a bit juvenile but to wait until they'd tried it out to pass judgement on the eyeshadows!

Makes me kinda curious what the rest of the line is like ;)

Summary: Buy one for yourself, one for your little sister and one for your best friend!
