I am a big fan of Benefit products, yes, some of them are quite expensive but I do believe in you get what you pay for most of the time with cosmetics and the quality, packaging and effectiveness as well as how long the Benefit products lasts really makes me like to purchase their products.
Benefit is an America cosmetics company founded in 1976 by twin sisters in San Francisco. The girls are called Jean and Jane. Their visions was to create makeup with a whimsical candy store type theme. Nowadays the brand has over 1,000 makeup counters in more than 25 countries.
One such product that I purchased for the summer this year is Benefit 10. No, not Ben 10 (for all you mothers and fathers of boys out there) but Benefit 10, a somewhat play on words I think that this product is 10 out of 10 for sheer loveliness. It also says that it will make you look a perfect 10 when you apply it to your face.
Benefit 10 is described as a bronzing and highlighting face powder duo. It comes in little cardboard box with a lid that slides over the top of the box. Inside there is a brush that is pretty much the size of the box. It has a long surface area which I find is really useful is applying the powder. The brush is made of soft natural bristles so it is really soft on my cheeks and skin which is lovely. What's great is that the brush stays in the box all the time so you don't have to find or use another brush in your makeup bag to apply this powder.
The powder has two sides to it. One side is the pink highlighting powder and the other side is the bronzes. What I like is that each section is big enough to use just on its own as the brush will pick up powder from just the one side so you can use it as either a highlighter or a bronzes. I generally though use both sections at one time to get a really even highlighter but nice bronze look on my face. I just sweep the brush back and forth over the box and it picks up both powders quite well and then you can smooth it over your face.
I love the look I can achieve with Benefit 10. It gives my skin a lovely glow and radiance but the highlighter also tones it down a bit and makes it quite light and sophisticated. It's quite pricey at £23.50 for a 10g box but it's well worth it for the look I can achieve and will last a long time.
I don't know about you but I find it increasingly difficult to find a bronzer and a blush or highlight that actually match and go with my complexion - I thought it was just me as being so pale I always struggle (and mostly avoid) finding and wearing bronzers, but talking to my mates I found that I wasn't alone in thinking that! I had been using a light cream bronzer that was great but during the summer I wanted a more glowing look. I had been loving the Benefit Dandelion Blush in the box so I decided to go and find myself a bronzer of the same sort of thing.
I found a few but they were either to dark, too shimmery or too orange. I was about to give up and stick to being pale when a pretty and quite unique packaging caught my eye and introduced me to Benefit 10 - quite a peculiar name I thought but as I realised what it was, it was so perfect it deserved 10 out of 10! You see it isn't a blusher and it isn't a bronzer. It's a half and half! After taking off the lid you notice that the powder inside had been divided into two equal strips of colour - one half is a gorgeous, golden bronzer and the other half is a pale iridescent pink highlighter! Its not just what's on the inside that is lovely - the outside is gorgeous too, with a a pinky purple box displaying the image of a white and diamond encrusted belt buckle in front of a orange shape with the number 10 wrote in a retro way in the top left hand corner. I love it as its so random but beautiful - I love that kind of photography and art so it really appealed to me. Once you take off the lid and notice that you have a two for one effect going on here you also realise that there is a handy little brush applicator present, with a gorgeous pale pink plastic handle and natural white bristles (which help you to see how much product you have picked up.)
I really was in love with the whole concept and design and could not wait to try. In the packaging the bronzer section looks quite a medium brown with some soft bronze and even golden undertones, when you swatch a little on your hand or arm you notice that it has a lot of deep burgundy shades to it as well. The highlight in the box looks very pink and very pale - once it has been swatched it still looks very pale but isn't too pink or overpowering - its also not too shimmery or glittery!
To apply I have found that the brush it comes with is the best way as it is so thin and precise you have no danger of putting on too much in the wrong place. Benefit tell you to 'sweep not swirl' to get the right amount of each. You can mix them together in one go, or put them on separately. Make sure you put the bronzer underneath your cheekbones in the hollows (or to create some) and the highlighter on top to catch the light. Once on this duo look amazing, I really was worried this wouldn't suit me as the bronzer is quite dark, but if you apply sparingly and with the highlighter it really does balance it out and make it look glowing and flawless! I am in love!
It lasts for ages without a touch up and then you only need a tad bit more of bronzer as the highlighter seems to linger for longer. I apply this after my foundation and before my setting powder, however you do not need to apply powder - it had strong staying power!
Its quite an expensive product at £23.50 but if you think about it you are getting two products beautifully packaged, a brush and a gorgeous complexion so I think it is definitely worth it - plus it will last you for ages and ages!
Benefit 10 is available at Boots or Boots.com as well as any stores that have a Benefit counter and of course the Benefit website.
I actually got this as a bit of an accident! I had asked my sister to get my Hoola for Christmas, but somehow she heard this as 10. Never have I been so pleased to get the wrong Christmas gift!
The first time I used this, my Mum asked what I'd done as I looked like I'd lost a lot weight on my face. My Mum is my most honest critic, and she said that it looked great and so so subtle.
I ditched the blusher I normally used, and have used this one ever since. I'm normally a bit wary about blushers and anything on my cheeks really, as I have acne scarring and i'm afraid of highlighting that, but this actually improves the look of my cheeks.
It costs about £23.50, but I have only had to buy one since my sister bought my first one. That was almost 2 1/2 years ago. The one I have right now wont need replaced for a while. It all works out pretty good value!
Benefit has been a make up brand that I have loved for a long time. Their funky packaging and quirky names are eye catching and the products always seem to be of good quality. I had been using Benefits Dallas for a long time and when that ran out I decided to try one of the other bronzer/blusher/highlighters in their range. I have very pale skin so when it comes to bronzers I really have to be careful because let's face it I could end up with an orange face and white body which wouldn't be a good look. I wanted something that would give me a bit of colour without being too dark. After looking at all that Benefit had to offer I decided on this one...'10'...which is a bronzing and highlighting duo.
Benefit say that you can highlight and contour cheekbones in one sexy sweep. I liked the sound of this as I have never really grasped the concept of highlighting and contouring so if I can get a product that more or less does it for me then i'm all for it. A natural bristle cheek brush is included with the duo which is supposed to be perfect for doing the 'sweep'. Benefits guidelines for application are as follows... Lightly sweep brush over powder so pink highlighting powder appears on half the brush and bronzer on the other half. With pink side up, whisk from the apple of the cheek up to the hairline. Now you've done the sexy sweep!. I found that I prefered to use my own brush to apply the duo because the brush provided didn't pick up enough product for my liking and it was easier to do one sweep with my own brush rather than a few with the brush that was included.
The duo comes in a small box with a flip lid that stays shut using a magnet. Inside the lid is a small mirror which is perfect if you want to pop this in your bag to top up throughout the day. You get 7.0g of product in the box and it really is suprising how long these little boxes last! I've been using 10 practically everyday for about 7 weeks now and there is no sign of an indentation in the product.
When I first started using Benefit's 10 duo I was sceptical. The bronzer part of it has a 'shimmery' element to it which at first I didn't like at all but the more I used it the more I liked it and I found that it gave me that 'glowy' type of look. If you prefer a matte bronzer then this duo is definitely not one for you. As for the highlighter aspect of the duo I do feel slightly dissapointed. I can't noticeably see it in action which may be a good thing as of course I want my make up to look natural but I would like to be able to see it doing something different to my face. However, I do like the overall look after i've applied 10 so it must be doing something right.
I purchased Benefit's 10 from www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk for £23.50, which is rather expensive but it lasts a very long time.
Is it a perfect 10? I'd give it a good 9.
Last Christmas I decided to treat myself to having my make up done at the Benefit counter, the only cost to this was spending £30 or more on make up, ho hum, no problem for me and it means that I get some new make up! Upon doing my face the make up artist used the benefit 10, bronzer and highlighter, and after a small amount of persuasion I decided that this would be one of the products that I chose.
The idea behind benefit 10 is to combine a bronzer with a highlighter in order to define the contour of your cheekbones for that elegant look that can be difficult to obtain with a variety of different products and brushes. It takes the stress out of faffing round, and is simple to use to achieve the look you want.
**Pennies and Packaging**
The pennies - not the cheapest item of make up that I have ever bought weighing in at a hefty £23.50 for a measley 7g of product, just to compare I have checked on Amazon and the cheapest I can find is £19.50, though with the £3 delivery you are not saving much. All in all an expensive product.
The packaging - A small box, with a deep lid, which is pale pink in colour with generic girly images of diamantes (or diamonds) on the top, clearly displaying the benefit brand name. On opening the lid you see a small brush, which is housed in a plastic container, on top of the product to be used for application. The brush, although small, is thick and has an easy to grip handle, even if you are blessed with larger hands and fingers (as I am), it is also very soft so doesn't irritate the skin. The plastic container is much better than leaving the brush loose in my opinion and this is for 2 reasons, the first being that the brush doesn't get make up over the handle which then transfers onto your hand and the second being that the plastic brush does not destroy or chip the product so you can wear it away evenly with just the brush! Once you remove the brush and container you are then shown a lovely pale pink and pale bronze compressed powder with just a hint of glitter sparkling.
**Product, Application and Does it Work??**
The Product - as mentioned it is a compressed powder which is halved into the 2 colours (pink and bronze) with what I can only descibe as an artifical "make up like" smell to it which is not altogether unpleasant and you can only smell this in the box not on application. I love the way that this looks when you open it, I think its very girly and sparkly.
Application - application is a doddle. It is simply sweep the brush along the 2 colours (being careful not to mix them), tapping the excess of the brush, and sweeping, with the pale pink highlighter on the top, across your cheek bone in one movement. I find that I generally only need to do this once and the difference is notable across my skin and it looks as though I am sucking in my cheeks!
Does it work - for me I have to say it does, I love the way that it makes my cheekbones seem to pop out and it removes any need for me to apply blusher . The only complaint I do have is that if I apply in a rush, without a fluid sweepin movement, there is a very noticeable break between the pink and the bronze, rather than the subtle contour/highlighting that is the aim of this. The pale pink colour matches my skin tone well (medium warm) and personally I think this will work well for people of this colouring or paler, but not very well if your skin is darker, I think the contrast would be too deep.
**How else to use it**
As I said, I went to a make up counter to originally purchase this product, one of the tips that I was given was to not always follow the rule book on how to use this and I find that taking a big round bronzer brush and mixing the 2 colours together you end up with a very subtle bronzer with just the right amount of shimmery sparkle, I use this across my shoulders and chest to add a subtle touch of glitter and glamour!
**How long does it last**
I have had this product since Christmas so it has lasted for 8 months so far and I barely appear to have made a dent in this, however I probably only use this about once a week - namely because it has to live in my big make up bag rather than my every day make up bag and I tend to forget that I actually own this!
**Would I recommend**
In all honestly for someone like me who rarely uses blusher, I would say don't bother wasting your money, yes it is a lovely product and I love using it (when I remember) it is just not worth spending that amoung on something that is used so rarely.
However for someone who uses blusher on a more daily basis I would recommend in a heartbeat, it looks more natural than blusher and gives you that dewy glow and shimmer without appearing too harsh in the day light.
4 out of 5 stars - namely due to the price
This bronzing and highlighting face powder duo is one of my favourite items in my cosmetics collection. As with all cosmetics by Benefit, it comes in an eye catching casing which is sturdy meaning that the product will not get broken or crumble as it is knocked around your make up bag. The product itself is silky and smooth and simple to apply using the soft cheek brush which comes free inside the box. Sweep the brush over the product so that the brush is half brown, half pink and with the pink dust on the top, sweep from your cheek to your hairline. The bronzer itself gives you a healthy sun kissed glow and emphasises the contours of your face giving the impression of amazing cheekbones! The highlighter works along side the bronzer to create this impression as well as giving you a beautiful radiance. With my product, I also sometimes use the highlighter and bronzer separately using a smaller brush, if I want to use them on a different area of my face, for example, using the highlighter below the eyebrow to achieve a more wide eyed look. Most of my friends have bought this product since trying mine. One word of warning. I have quite pale skin and I have found on my friends with skin darker than mine, the highlighter can look completely different and doesn't always achieve the desired look and they were disappointed with it.
Benefit 10 is the first Benefit product I ever bought and it got me hooked! It is a perfect example of how Benefit design products that make it easier for the non-expert to apply make-up that looks flawless, natural and professional.
Benefit 10 is a two tone bronzer/highlighter with a brush that is designed to be swept across both colours and then across the cheekbone, resulting in a contoured look. For someone who is not used to using highlighter and believes bronzer tends to result in the 'tangoed' look, I was very impressed by the results that following the simple instruction leaflet achieved. As with all Benefit products, the packaging also brightens up any make-up bag and is neat and compact - perfect for those ladies who do their make-up on the go.
I know some people prefer a pinker blusher, but I have found that using Benefit 10 on top of another blusher, particular a cream blusher, results in the same natural effects whilst allowing that pink glow to show through. All in all this is an excellent product, well worth the money!
This two toned powder highlighter and bronzer blush in one from BeneFit is GREAT!
The product is called '10' and retails at £23.50. Comes with its own individual brush too. Great for travel!
When I first opened this blush I wasn't sure how to use it. But like all BeneFit products it came with a little instruction leaflet!
I applied the brush to the powder so that half the brush was coated with the highlighter and the other half was coated with the bronzer.
I found that the best way to apply the product was to then begin from the top of the cheek bone (right by my hair line) and to then sweep the product down to the apples of my cheeks and blend.
I made sure that the brush was up the correct way with the highlighter part of the brush at the top!
Once I had applied the powder, I noticed that my cheeks had been instantly defined! What a clever little product!! I had a highlight to the top of my cheek bone and a contour to my cheek underneath.
It really did look amazing.
10 has a shimmer to it too. I would say that this is the most shimmery of the boxed powders that BeneFit does. Looks amazing on a night out!
You can also swirl the powder together and dust all over your face and it really gives you a soft, bronze glow! No orange in sight.
I also used the blush on my eyes. And that also worked! I put the bronze part of the powder on my lids, and then I put the highlighter part under my brow.
And you can use 10 on top of a cream blush or a cheek stain so that you get that defined cheek bone with your usual blusher!
It really is a very versatile blush and I have just used the last of my 10 after a whole year!!!
Benefit have done it again!!
This is a fantastic two in one product. This bronzer/highlighter manages to highlight your cheek bones and darken your cheek hollows creating a beautiful, contoured face. It is quite expensive at £23.50, but it does last a very long time. I've had mine for nearly a year and it hasn't really begun to run out yet and i wear it everyday. As for the price, i haven't seen any other products like this, and to buy a highlighter and a bronzer would probably work out around the same price. The only bad thing i can really say i've noticed with this product is that, not matter how much you tap off the excess, it always seems to go on to thick, but this problem is easily sorted by blending with a brush or fingertips. It also comes with a brush which is perfectly designed for this product, and fits into the box which is a great use of space, meaning it takes up minimum room in your bag.
THis is a great product design from Benefit the two tones, bronzer and shimmer in one tub is genius. I know it sounds too good to be true but seriously one sweep along your cheek bones and you are slightly bronzed up with a bit of shimer that dosent look false or cheap. it looks great on a night out and really brightens up your face. I like to save this one for a night out but on days where I feel glum it really brightens up my face
As always this great packaging from Benefit. it also comes with a brush to apply which is perfect for creating the look
This item will last for ages, and is quick and easy to use for a nigt out it gives you a great shimmering sexy look along with subtle bronzing, comes with the brush and its easy of use make it well worth £23
I will admit that I have reviewed a lot of the Benefit cosmetics but this is because I have bough A LOT of them! However, this is my favourite and I use it every day - whether I have a tan or not.
The packaging as usual is a lovely case, with the following written on the back:
'Be a perfect 10! For a sultry, sexy glow, sweep this duo of sensual pink & naughty bronze powders over your complexion, decollete... anywhere!.'
Sweeping this across the cheeks, using the perfectly sized and included brush, with the pink just above the cheek bones and the bronze on the bones creates a lovely shaping across the face. Incorporating the two colours into one product means that the perfect amount of each in used each time. The pot is fairly dinky but having used it almost every day for two years and not finished it I would not change anything.
This is definately my all time favourite benefit product. It is a combination of a highlighter and a bronzer all in one with a single brush. This allows you to easily apply the highlighter to the top of the cheekbone and the bronzer on and below the cheekbone. The colour is great and can be used on any skin tone. I am quite fair skinned and find many bronzers too dark but this one is great. Its also easy to use one half of the brush to apply more of just the highlighter or the bronzer depending on the look you are trying to achieve. One tip I would give would be to use a blusher or powder brush to carefully belnd the edges after application otherwise it is possible to end up with an almost slightly stripey look! I also love the fact that the packaging is so robust, I've had this product a while now (it lasts ages!) and the box has rattled around my make-up bag and travelled all over with me but still looks like new.....excellent quality!
Out of all the Benefit products I own Benefit 10 is definitely one of my favourites. It is a bronzer and highlighter in one and suitable for all skin tones. It comes in a small square box like many Benefit bronzers and blushes with a small brush for application. It is split into 2 sections, one side is pink and the other brown. You simple then use the brush to sweep across your cheek bones, making sure the pink is on the bottom. It really is that easy. The result is shimmery bronzed skin. I wouldn't recommend this as an everyday product, but great in summer and on nights out. You can also use the colours separate, use the pink and sweep across your brow bones. I would go as far as to say the pink gives the same results as high beam, only it is in powder form instead of liquid. The brown can also be used on its own as just a bronzer. But using it like this on a regular basis may mean you run out very quickly.
Benefit 10 does come with quite a high price tag at £22.50 but I think it is definitely worth it. Its' size means it is small enough to fit in your bag, but I wouldn't recommend constantly carrying it around. Only because it doesn't cope well with the rough and tumble. I found the powder broke into bits, and due to the way this product works it not only became messy but meant I could no longer apply it in the way it is meant to.
I had a gift voucher for benefit back last year, i decided to have a browse on their website for something to purchase. I wasn't to familiar with benefit products as i had no considered buying anything from their range before due to the cost of their products!
Anyway i came across this highlighter and bronzer and liked the look of it and how there were two colours you use together so decided it was something i'd like to try.
The first time i used it i was very impressed! I loved how the pink gave my cheeks a glow and the bronzer highlighted my cheekbones, it also gave off a lovely shimmer.
When i started to run out i even decided to drag the brush through both colours and apply to cheeks which also gave a nice colour in one.
Unfortunetly I hadn't been able to buy another after i ran out due to the expensive cost of it, but after looking on ebay I have found one for a slightly cheaper cost which i can't wait to arrive so i can start using it again. I have used different blushers/bronzers but i haven't been able to find anything similar that looks as nice.
Having run out of my two favourite and most used beauty products Get Bent Mascara and Benetint, and Boots having an advantage card promotion on when you buy 3 Benefit products I decided I would invest in a new item from the range.
For me I was spoilt for choice, I have tried many of the Benefit range and loved them all but wanted something that would become a staple in my make up bag. I have never yet found a powder blusher that suited my skin tone though, Hoola is too dark, coraslistic a bit too coral (go figure lol) and dandelion didnt really show up....so when I saw the new 10 I thought I should give it a go.
The product is typical Benefit style, a small square box with a lift off lid and a small brush on top of the product. The blusher is split down the middle, one side pink and one bronze. To make the application easier there are some instructions enclosed in the box, it directs you to brush across so the pink is at the top, and bronze at the bottom of the brush, then sweep from the hairline down the cheekbone...meaning the pink highlights and the bronze ....well bronzes the cheekbones. It sounds a bit complicated but the picture on the instructions helps :) It did take a couple of attempts for me to get it right with me holding the brush upside down and putting the pink underneath and what not but I got there in the end.
I have to say I was more than pleased with the results, it left a noticable shimmer and bronzed look to my skin without making me look like I had overdone it and blended in really well. I definately recommend this to people a bit fairer skinned like myself who find regular bronzers a bit too orange. The pink highlighted my cheekbones with a subtle shimmer. And if you only wanted to use the bronzer or the highlighter by itself you could do...making it two products in one!!! Like most Benefit products the powder had a delicate fruity fragrance, not enough it leaves a scent on your skin but enough that you feel fresh.
Since only a small amount of product is needed I can imagine this lasting a long time, so whilst it is quite expensive at £22.50 it is a quailty blusher that will last many many uses. Personally I would rather pay a bit more for a quality product than waste a fortune trying out loads of cheaper brands. I would advise a trip to a Benefit counter (they have them in most Department stores, Boots and Debenhams) to try the shade out to see how it goes on your own skin tone, then to purchase I would recommend Boots at the moment as they have a promtion where you collect 1000 points with 3 or more Benefit products.
