Advantages: well - designed brush, non - clumping mascara, cute packaging
Disadvantages: hefty price tag, slightly more difficult to remove than most mascaras
If there’s anyone who knows how to market their products it’s BeneFit; adorable packaging and products with intriguing names attract women everywhere but what really has me going back for more is the fact that most of their products are really good quality and actually do what they are supposed to. Unfortunately the price tag can be a turn-off but there are a few select products that I don’t mind paying more for because they are highly effective and look cute in my make-up bag!
Amongst my favourites is the Bad Gal Lash mascara. This mascara was brought out by BeneFit as a complement to the Bad Gal Eyeliner; a chunky bold black eye pencil. As with all of BeneFit’s products the mascara comes in really stylish packaging. It’s all black with bold pink and white lettering down the side. The tube itself is pretty big compared to most mascara. The brush is also bigger than with most brands of mascara that I’ve used before and has lots of bristles; BeneFit clearly had the phrase ‘bigger is better’ in mind when they designed this product! BeneFit makes some pretty bold claims about their Bad Gal Lash mascara not least by saying that it will make you look like you’re wearing false eyelashes but then again they never have been a company who are modest in their claims! The mascara itself only comes in one colour and of course that had to be black, after all what self-respecting Bad Gal would be seen in any other colour?
Now I certainly don’t have long eyelashes but I do have plenty of them. I think my eyes are one of my best features and I like to make the most of them so mascara is one of my essentials. I like mascaras that lengthen and colour my eyelashes so I can flutter them at every available opportunity. Bad Gal already has an advantage over other mascaras simply due to the design of the brush; it’s think and loaded with bristles. Application is easy you simply brush through your eyelashes; although the larger-than-average brush may be new to some people you shouldn’t have any real problems. I am impressed that when you apply the mascara there is no chemically smell that you can get with some brands and more importantly no clumps! I’ve found that even after using the mascara for a few months it doesn’t change in consistency and you still get the same performance as when it was brand new, you don’t end up with clumps as you get towards the bottom of the tube.
I love the appearance of my eyelashes after application, they look longer and rather than being stuck together they stay separated after applying one coat (you don’t really need to apply more than this). The mascara isn’t waterproof but during the day I don’t experience any smudging or flaking, occasionally I get a slight darkness under my bottom eyelashes at the end of the day but this is probably caused by me rubbing me eyes or the rain. One thing about this mascara that may be a problem for some people is that it seems to be a little more difficult to remove then other mascara, it does come off with make-up remover but you have to rub it over the area thoroughly to remove all the mascara. This isn’t a problem for me but may be for those with sensitive eyes.
So what distinguishes this mascara from any other? Well to be honest not a great deal, as far as I can tell from my experience of using it is that the only factor which really makes it stand out from the rest is the design of the brush and this is really important when choosing mascara. This one scores very highly because it is loaded with bristles. The mascara itself is really good and I do feel sexy wearing it but at the end of the day it isn’t really that much different to cheaper brands of mascara. The packaging is fun though and it does look more stylish than most other brands. However can you really justify spending £14.50 on a mascara when you can get a decent one for half the price. Personally I really like the mascara, the brush is definitely the best I’ve tried and I think the packaging is great so I don’t mind paying that bit extra for it. Also the fact that it lasts for a long time without clumping is an advantage. It’s not like this is a revolutionary product but it does a good job and is a product I find myself coming back to again and again.

[I have completely blond eyelashes so without mascara or tint I look like a blind hamster, but now I don't work in an office I rarely bother LOL].
