Benefit is an America cosmetics company founded in 1976 by twin sisters in San Francisco. The girls are called Jean and Jane. Their visions was to create makeup with a whimsical candy store type theme. Nowadays the brand has over 1,000 makeup counters in more than 25 countries.
I am a fairly new Benefit fan as I do think it's somewhat expensive but the products I have tried so far have always been of such good quality that I always think it is paying a little bit more sometimes for something good. What first attracted me to the Benefit counter was the brightness and girly prettiness of it all. Their range always looked so fun and quirky and exciting that I had to try it. I had also heard so much about it in the beauty press and magazines that I knew it had a great reputation already and so wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
I was excited when I saw that Glamour magazine was giving away a Benefit mascara last month with it's magazine as it means I could try a new product of theirs for free, well somewhat free. I think it's a really good marketing ploy because they can target people who may not have tried their products who will hopefully in their mind become hooked and want to buy more of their products.
I also think a big part of Benefit's success is it's packaging and name of the products too. For example, if we just look at a few of their best sellers we see that this mascara that they are giving away is called the BADgal lash for the biggest, baddest lashes, Dr Feelgood is a face balm for matte skin and one of their glosses is called her glossiness! I think products like that are always fun to have in your make up bag and so it's partly because of this that I have become a fan.
The BADgal lash mascara is described by Benefit as such, "With a big, bad brush and a rich, black formula, it's like wearing a set of false eyelashes without the glue."
The mascara comes in a tube just like any other mascara. It has a black colour on the outside with BAD gal written in white letters and then lash written in pretty cursive pink writing. I find the packaging girly but at the same time for edgy, sexy girls and a bit naughty I guess you would say. I think they are definitely marketing this mascara to tough girls who know what they want out of life.
The brush is quite short but rather large in width and quite chunky. I really like the size of the wand as I think it goes onto your lashes really well and does give them a nice full look with just one application. Benefit recommend "Twirling the brush in the vial... pumping it in and out will only dry out your mascara faster! For extra full lashes, coat both sides of the upper and lower lashes... then flutter away!"
The sample that was given away in Glamour magazine was only 4.0g but the regular size product weighs 8.5g and costs £14.50. Like I've said above I think their products are rather costly but I can see this mascara lasting quite a long while and it definitely gives nice bold coverage so I have to say it's definitely a product for me.
