~*~ Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara ~*~
I love trying new make up products, and am on a constant hunt to find the perfect mascara, but being on a student budget don't often get the chance to sample products, particularly if they are at the more expensive end of the price range. I had been wanting to try this mascara for quite a while after hearing good reviews on it, so when I saw a free half-size tube going with one of my favourite magazines (this months Glamour, if your interested!) I thought I'd be silly not to, and snapped it up straight away!
~*~ The effect ~*~
This mascara, made by Benefit - a well known and prestigious cosmetics brand - is said to be able to give lashes a dramatic false lash effect - "an instant set of false eyelashes".
The brush for this mascara is very chunky, a lot thicker than standard mascara brushes, and this takes a bit of getting used to. The mascara goes on well, and stays put all day (give or take a little bit of smudging but that goes without saying!). The only problem I have with this product is that it is quite thick and doesn't 'flow' - you have to apply a good few layers to get a dramatic effect, and I found that it takes a lot more effort to apply than with other mascaras. Just me being lazy, but when looking for your perfect mascara this has all got to be taken into account!
Although after several coats my lashes were given the 'false lash' effect, I have had better results with other products.
~*~ The price and avaliability ~*~
You can purchase this from Boots (online and in store) as well as in department stores such as House of Fraser and Debenhams, for around £14.50, although watch out for offers. Boots often do '3 for 2' on Benefit products, so it's worth waiting around for one of these if you can.
~*~ The shades ~*~
One. Black. Unfortunately if you are of fairer complexion and prefer more subtle shades of mascara, you wont have much luck with this one!
~*~ The verdict ~*~
Not bad, but not that brilliant either. This mascara does give the desired effect, but wasn't amazing, and if I'm going to pay £14.50 for a mascara I want something that I love, not something that will just do. The brush is thicker than other brushes which takes a lot of getting used to and fussing around, and I'm far too impatient for that!
It's worth giving this one a go if you can get it for a free trial with Glamour. I've found that different mascaras react differently for different people, so don't take my word for this 100%, it's worth giving it a go. But if it was between this one and Clinique, Clinique wins hands down every time!
Summary: Not a bad mascara, but not one I will be using again!
