Advantages: Looks good, easy to find in your bag and is easy to remove
Disadvantages: Smudges very easily and is not long wearing
I got this pencil free from a magazine last year. The mag only cost me £2, and as this pencil usually retails around £10, I was quite chuffed as I had never tried it and thought I had snapped a bargain!.... Well you know what thought did (as my mother would say....)
~product and packaging~
The pencil is quite chunky, but is easy to hold and weights 1.4g so is very light. Like most Benefit products, the packaging is bright and colourful, and BAD gal is no different in that respect. The contrasting pink and black pencil is easily found in your makeup bag and looks funky. The pencil has a plastic lid, which is useful to prevent the crayon making a mess in your bag.
The only problem with the chunkiness is that a special eye pencil sharpener is needed to sharpen it - this might just be me, but I usually just use a regular pencil sharpener to sharpen my eye liners!!
~applying~
I found this quite hard to apply as it's so chunky and a lot of product is applied on the eye in one application. I would not recommend this if you like subtle eye make up and eyeliner! However, it is smooth on the skin, and it doesn't drag as it's quite oily and creamy in consistency. Because of this consistency, it is easy to smudge if you are after a smokey eye look.
~ results~
It does give a dramatic look to the eye, due the chunkiness. When I have used this I tended to apply the pencil to upper lashes. First results were always fine.................. but when I next looked in the mirror a couple of hours later the kohl had smudged and slipped to the outer corners of my eyes, making me look a mess! I have to say that my eyelids do get a little oily, and I thought on this first occasion that this was why the eyeliner had shifted. So... before I next applied the eyeliner I primed my eyelids by applying a light dusting of powder to try and stop the oil and thus stop the eyeliner running.... This made no absolutely no difference! I still ended up looking like I had badly attempted a smokey eye look after just applying a quick sweep of liner on my eyes!! Quite embarrassing!
~removal~
I suppose the kohls' oily and slippy nature does help in its removal. I found it easy enough to remove with my regular cleanser, which is good because I couldn't wait to get it off as it was smudged all around my eyes! This, apart from the packaging, is the pencils only redeeming feature!
~overall~
Unfortunately, BADgal was my first encounter with Benefit cosmetic products and this, rightly or wrongly, put me off buying or using anything from them. Since, I have tried other products from them and thankfully, they are better than this! I had heard a lot of good things from this product prior to trying it and knew it was quite expensive, but I was really disappointed with this pencil. It is not long wearing, is difficult to apply and does not have staying power and is expensive for what it does.
Eyeliners that are easier to apply and are longer wearing are available at much cheaper prices than this! I do not recommend, therefore I sadly award it 1 star.
