I did not set out to buy this product, but it came in a little set with Benefit BADgal Mascara for about £16-£18 which I thought was a very good deal considering the price of both the items, it was also a birtdhay present which helps!
I'm not a big user of pencil eyeliners, I tend to use them when I go out and only use them on my bottom eyelid as I use liquid on my top. However since purchasing this one I use it alot more. The eyeliner itself is very soft and hasn't dried out which I found previous eyeliners I have used did so quite fast.
The other end of the eyeliner is used for smudging, I have not experimented with this much as I like clean bold lines for my eyes, however when I have it has been quite succussful. Another good point is that it stays in place, with other eyeliners I find they often move about and get stuck in the crease under my eye which isn't a good look but that happen with this eyeliner! Although it does leave a bit of panda eyes when taken off (however I just use supermarket babywipes to take my make up off so you may want to invest in a good brand name makeup remover)
As much as I do really love this eyeliner I don't think I would buy it again anytime soon, unless it was a gift like the one I own was, as it is quite expensive.
I use a number of different Benefit products as I really like the way they make me look, I can achieve really pretty results with their products. I also really like their whole look and the way they name and package their products.
Benefit is an America cosmetics company founded in 1976 by twin sisters in San Francisco. The girls are called Jean and Jane. Their visions was to create makeup with a whimsical candy store type theme. Nowadays the brand has over 1,000 makeup counters in more than 25 countries. The look is quite kitsch and old fashioned in a way but the make up is very cool and sought after.
I have used their Bad Gal lash mascara for a number of years now and, call it the Kate Middleton effect but I've recently got into eyeliner as a more dramatic look for the evenings so I turned to their BADGAL waterproof liner to help me achieve this look. Now, this is not just your run of the mill boring eyeliner pencil, and at £14 for one it really does need to be a little bit better than the competition which I'm glad to say it is. Firstly, this eyeliner is waterproof which is great as I have really watery eyes and also cry at the drop of a hat so having an eyeliner that will not come off with a bit of water is great.
Secondly, there are two parts to this pencil. There is the pencil at one end which is soft but not too soft that it smudges everywhere. It goes onto the eye really smoothly and when sharpened comes to a really nice point. On the other end is a blending tip which I think is a really nice addition to an eyeliner. As I am new to this look I don't want to go too bold and scary looking so this is where the blending tip really comes in handy. It creates really sexy, smoky eyes without ruining the effect of the line you add to your eyes. It's really easy to use. Once you have added the pencils to above and below your lids you just smooth this tip over them and it blends the line in really well. I find this works really well with you eyeshadow too to create a seamless colour block on your whole lid.
The colour is great, it is described as extra black and really has a dark hue to it, it comes out really well on my eyes and provides a really nice look.
All in all a nice eyeliner that I recommend
I usually go for an expensive eye liner, because I like my eyes to stand out - and I also appreciate having it last longer than an hour! I asked for advice behind the counter at debenhams because I didn't just want to dive on in there as most of them are quite pricey! She advised me to try benefit because it is a brand that sometimes goes overlooked, but the quality is great.
Luckily, the lady was correct - and I really am so impressed with this eyeliner and wanted to share my view on here. It really does last hours and hours, doesn't smudge (unless you use the little foam end to purposely smudge it if you are going for that look) and defines eyes spectacularly!! The pencil ending is soft and glides onto eyes really well.
This particular one is also waterproof - and it really is! I went to a water park, and it was still on unsmudged after going on the slides.
This came in a lovely little box, and the pencil itself is black. One end is the pencil, and the other is an foam applicator which is black too. This has a clear plastic top, and the other end is a black plastic top. It has silver writing on it, and has a very professional look to it.
This cost £14, and I feel lasts for quite a long time because it is good quality. I completely recommend this eye liner! It is worth the money. Fantastic.
I got this eye pencil from Asos as i own the Benefit Bad Gal Mascara and love it. I paid £14 for it and got free delivery which was nice! This pencil is available pretty much everywhere - Asos, as i mentioned, Boots, Superdrug, eBay, Amazon etc. If buying on eBay or from an Amazon seller though (or any online shops), i'd be wary of fakes as there's apparently quite alot, but with trusted retailers there is no issue and i don't doubt for one minute that mine is fake.
There are 3 different colours to choose from: Black, Expresso and Charcoal. I got the black as i really love the messy indie look at the minute and black is more of a grungey colour so adds more of bold, statement look than a weaker colour. I've found the black to be a a nice rich black, and it stays dark in when it's smudged rather than turning into a grey, washed out shade of black.
This eyeliner comes in a pink and black cardboard box which is like a little gift box type thing and it brightens the product up alot and adds a really girly look to it. Obviously it's a girly product anyway but the packaging just adds that feminine, cute touch to the whole thing.
The pencil itself is average - average design and length, however it's a little thicker than other eyeliners that i own and it also has a smudger on one end. My pencil is black with 'Bad gal waterproof' written on it, but if you get the pencil in expresso or charcoal the pencil will be brown or grey.
Using this is simple and it's extremely easy to apply, it's soft with a smooth tip, however applying it neatly is near impossible as because of the softness and the design of the tip, it smudges so easily, but this is the whole point of the product so i can't really complain. It gives a just-rolled out of bed panda eye look, which for girls like me who are into rock chic type looks it is ideal, but for people who want a thin, neatly applied eyeliner this is not the one for you. I find this defines my eyes 10 times more than most of my other eyeliners and the quality can be seen and felt. I sometimes put this on my eyelid and smudge it and it looks great as a eyeshadow as it's not too heavy looking.
It lasts throuhout the day and looks great, it lasts a decent amount of time too - i've had mine for 3/4 weeks now and it's not looking worn down at all. As you can see in the title the mascara is waterproof which is handy and effective. Wiping it off is quite easy though and i just use a makeup removing wipe (or 2).
I'll admit that the price was a put off, but overall i can honestly say i love it!
I am a massive fan of the smokey eye look- so much so that it is pretty much all my eyes ever get made up in! And a massive element of the smokey eye look is a smudgey, thick black eye outline. I already use Benefit BadGal mascara so it was a natural next step to buy the Benefit BadGal Eye Pencil!
I bought the pencil for £14 online at Benefit's website, but it is widely available at their concession stands in places like Boots, Selfridges and Debenhams. The pencil comes packaged in a slim cardboard box. It is double-ended- one end is the pencil and the other is a blending tip. The pencil is quite slim, but not so slim that it is difficult to handle.
I wear the eyeline on both eyelids. Initially the eyeliner creates quite a slim line, making it perfect for those who don't like to wear it too heavy. However, after several go-overs, I manage to achieve the thick, smokey look I want! I then use the other end- a soft blender stick- to smudge the eyeliner a little. This smudging gives it a rocky, not-so-perfect sexy look!
The eye liner has 'waterproof' in its name and it definitely lives up to this name!!! It stays put throughout the night, even when my eyeshadow is smudged and dripping, the eye liner is in place! I rarely have to reapply it and, when I do, it's only a small touch up. It is, in fact, so waterproof that it's also its only downfall! I struggle to get the eyeliner off! I use eye maker up remover pads and I have to go through a couple of pads to get it off my eyes properly!
I love this eyeliner for the smokey, sexy look it gives my eyes and I am happy to pay a small premium for this look. Highly recommended!
Whilst strolling through Glasgow Airport's Duty Free I was in great need of a black eyeliner for going on holiday. I normally use brands such as Rimmel, Barry M, as I don't use pencil liner that often so I don't tend to spend too much on it. However, getting in that holiday spirit and thinking of all the late night and swimming I thought water proof eyeliner would just be just what I needed!
I have to say I did go against my sensible side and pay roughly £13 - for eyeliner! At this point convinced myself it was my first holiday treat and would be totally worth it!
It comes in a nice box, which is nice because most eyeliners I buy normally come as they are with just the protective wrapping at the end to stop the lid falling off. This has both.
The eyeliner is a soft pencil at one end and a smudging brush at the other- I use the term brush loosely here as it is more like the tip of a thick pen, like a stiff sponge. Both ends also have a cover to keep the liner and the smudging brush protected. It is slightly thicker than other eyeliners, not by much but noticeable.
*Using The Eyeliner*
I found this liner to be very soft, even thought it starts off fairly sharp when you buy it it only take a couple of uses for it to loose it's point and become rounded, which is no very good for getting a perfect line. However, if you plan to get that smokey eye look by using the brush at the other end of the liner then you don't need the liner to be very pointed as you will be blending it out anyway.
I felt this liner wasn't as dark as some of the other liners I use, this may be because it is softer than my normal liners. I felt I had to keep going over bits I had already done, especially after I smudged the line as it got even lighter when I did that. However, I am quite heavy handed so I could have been applying too much pressure.
I often put eyeliner on the inner part of my top eye lid-just under my lashes, if you want that really dark eye, and this eyeliner didn't take to this too well, it didn't come out as dark as I would have liked. This isn't an area of my eye that is easiest to put make up on in the first place so it's not somewhere I can just keep going over it to get the desired colour.
It may have been lighter on me as well because I have oily eyelids, so perhaps didn't take as well. I wouldn't have thought this would have made as much difference when first putting it on as it's not as if you can feel oil on my lids when you touch them.
So to get the best out of this liner, keep it sharp for precision but if you just need it to give that smokey touch to your look then it's great.
*How Did it Look After A Dip*
I was really impressed at this eyeliners staying power. Despite my initial disappointment at it's colour I was really happy with how well it stayed on. I was in and out of the pool a few times and it only started to smudge ever so slightly really late on in the day, but usually by this time I would be on my way back to the room for a shower anyway.
This meant it was also great for going to the clubs and wandering about at night when it was quite humid. Although the colour wasn't what I desired I don't really wear that much make-up on holiday anyway (as it just slides off in the warm clubs) so it was well suited for taking away.
I did like this product but for the price I wouldn't buy it again and if I'm honest I lost both lids and I rarely used it so threw it away. Which isn't normally like me but otherwise it would have just kicked about my make-up bag making everything dirty so there wasn't much point in me keeping it. A bit disappointing as I could have bought at least 3 other eyeliners for the same price but it was really good for on holiday.
So if your going away this is great and does create a really nice smokey eye.
My boyfriend bought me that Bad gal waterproof after moaning that none of my eyeliners were soft enough. I always had the problem of a kohl eyeliner either being too hard and making my eyes sore when applying or being nice and soft, but just not lasting! So I was happy to finally find a product that provided the best of both worlds!
This liner is so easy to apply and has a smudger brush on the end which makes the smokey eye look easy without needing eyeshadow! I have owned mine for 10 months now and still havent used even 1/3 of the length of it.
In Boots it is currently selling at £13.50, but I have found it on cheap perfumes website for £6.99 which is a bargain!
The only downside to this product is that it sometimes doesnt come off very easily. The majority of the time is fine, but if I apply it very heavily, it sometimes takes a lot of eyemake up remover to budge it!!
Saying that, overall it is definitely worth it as no other kohl eyeliner will measure up in my opinion!
I am a big fan of Benefit Cosmetics, and most of my make up comes from them. I used to use their Bad Gal eyeliner, which was a chunky, pink pencil, and I fell in love with it, but I have since discovered Bad Gal Waterproof. Benefit cosmetics, if you have not heard of them before was the brain child of the Ford Twins, from Indiana, USA. The company was founded in 1976 and has been a big hit since, all across the world.
Bad Gal Waterproof Eyeliner, is a slim eyeliner, in black and has a black covering to the pencil itself. It also has a smudging sponge on the end of the pencil to help you create any cool styles you want. There is a lid for both ends, and it comes in a nice, slim back box with sliver writing on it. The pencil has the words Bad Gal Waterproof, and Benefit printed on it in a swirly, silver font, which looks classy and elegant.
The eyeliner is so easy to use, I find it just glides on with no effort and it won't end up running down your face like I have found some eyeliners do. It stays in place, looks great and even though it is waterproof, I have used a make up wipe to easily remove it every time. I have found that this hardly ever bleeds from my eyes, even on a tough night out. I used to have problems with leaky eyeliners, but this one has the proper staying power.
It really is waterproof too, I got caught in the rain once and it stayed in place. I also had a laughing fit that bought me to tears, and yet it still stayed in place, brilliant. It lasts for ages, as it hardly ever needs sharpening, just a tiny bit on your eyes looks so good. It really does have a nice, deep black colour to it, so it frames the eyes nicely. The smudging sponge on the end of the pencil works wonders, and I found it really easy to make the smokey eye effect using this.
Even though this eyeliner is properly waterproof, it is easy to remove. I thought I would have trouble taking it off, but I have found it to come off easily with make up wipes, cleaners and face washes. There was no signs of the panda eyes the next morning, so I was confident it all came off in one go. Even when I pile loads of this eyeliner on, I find it comes off really easily, but only when I want it to. I have quite sensitive eyes and skin, but this eyeliner caused me no irritation what so ever, and because of this I believe it would be suitable for pretty much everyone to wear.
This eyeliner can be bought in Benefit Cosmetic Boutiques, Benefit Counters in Department Stores, On www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk and also on independant websites and re sellers of benefit make up. This stuff is expensive, about £15 I think, if you buy it directly from Benefit, but if you look around (even on Amazon) you can get this wonderful eyeliner at a bargain price.
I would like to warn you against buying this eyeliner from eBay or sites that are not well known, as a lot of people have been selling fake Benefit products online.
I recommend this eyeliner to everyone (even the men lol) as I love it. It really is a wonderful eyeliner, and even paying the full price at Benefit, this eyeliner truly is worth what you pay for it. I give this eyeliner a 5 out of 5.
*This review is also on Ciao under the name of Hailee*
This waterproof liner is a traditional pencil style, and glides on with ease.
It is a heavy black colour and can be put on with ease in one stroke. The pencil itself is easy to hold and also sharpens very well and very clean! So far (touch wood) it hasnt split on me like many other liners do.
The soft sponge at the end is a useful tool for smudging and feathering.
I also find this pencil very useful for filling in the eye corners when wearing false lashes as hardly any effort is needed for it to transfer to the eye lid, there is also the added benifit that when using with pressure and gone over a couple of times it can look like liquid eyeliner.
Overall this is a diverse black eyeliner that can be used to create a qide range of looks.
As being waterproof it is quite hard to get of at night time which I suppose in a way it does what it says on the tin so to speak! Another great investment piece from Benefit!
This waterproof liner is a well needed follow-up to the original Bad Gal liner. Aside from the waterproof nature of it, the main difference is that it is a more traditional pencil style, whilst the previous one was built like a crayon!
It is heavily pigmented leaving a lovely strong black colour behind in just one stroke. The pencil itself is easy to grip and the texture of the nib means that it goes on easily without dragging the eyelid, even if applied in a feathered style. In particular, it will simply glide along the lash line without smudging further down or onto the inner lid. It also goes on just as well along the upper lash line.
As the waterproof formula makes it go on cleanly, a small sponge tip is included on the other end of the pencil. This is surprisingly rubbery, but I suppose it has to be because the texture is made to avoid any accidental smudging. I have found that this part works best when blending it into a dark powder eyeshadow. It does not blend quite as well with creamy eyeshadows, but I would be less inclined to use a dark shade in these textures anyway.
Another key point which is often overlooked with eye pencils is how well this sharpens. The nib is stable enough to not crumble or get lost in the sharpener and the 'wood' that surrounds it does not splinter or get abrasive.
Although this does last incredibly well throughout a normal day compared to most other eyeliners that I have tried, I have found that the best way to keep it totally in place for longer is to team it up with the excellent She Laq also by Benefit. All in all I see this being a part of my make-up bag for a very long time to come.
