Advantages: It is subtle enough for daywear
Disadvantages: It isn't dark, creamy or long lasting enough for me
I love to wear a lot of eye make up and this included wearing eyeliner. I like to wear liquid eye liner on a night out because it looks more dramatic but I prefer to wear a pencil eyeliner during the day for a more subtle look. My current eyeliner wasn't performing as well as it once had so I purchased the Bad Gal Eyeliner from Benefit.
What does the product do?
The product promises to add definition to the eyes which will stay put come rain or shine. The product comes in three different shades which include Charcoal, Espresso and Black. A blending tip is including for you to create a smokey effect with the product, or you can wear it as a solid line to make the eyes pop.
How do you use the product?
You need to apply the product by drawing carefully along the lash line. Benefit advise you to dot along the lashes but that takes forever. I use a wet cotton bud to correct any mistakes and to ensure that you have a nice straight line. The blending tip on the other end of the pencil allows you to smudge the line and achieve the smokey eye effect if that it what you are aiming for.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a black and pink box and the product itself is a black pencil which just has a bit of writing on it. The product is a duel ended product with a pencil on one side and the blending tip on the other. The product will cost you around £14 and it can be bought from the Benefit counter at department stores such as Boots and from a variety of online websites.
Application and Performance
I was suprised by this pencil from the start. I was expecting a very creamy consistency that went on to leave a deep colour. In fact the consistency is somewhere between creamy and dry, which means that it does tug and drag the delicate skin along the lash line as you apply it. It doesn't hurt but I am conscience of not causing wrinkles and fine lines to form before their time!! The product does have a dark colour (I chose black) but it still wasn't as deep as I wanted it to be. The fact that the colour is not as dark as I wanted however does make it more suitable for day wear as it is more subtle and less harsh.
If you want to smudge the liner then the blending tip does work well and you have a short time to work with the product before it becomes too dry to blend. The smokey look with this liner works well. The product hasn't caused any irritations or discomfort on my eyes and I have found this product is fine to use when I am wearing my contact lenses. The product doesn't have a very long lifeline on the eyes. It does fade and smudge after a few hours and it certainly doesn't have the staying power of the cheaper pencils that I have used in the past.
All in all, I was a little disappointed with this product. The colour wasn't as deep as I wanted it to be and it wasn't as easy to apply as I had hoped it would be and this is because of the consistency. It wasn't as long lasting as I had hoped either and with the price in consideration, I have used product which are much better. I will be looking for a different eye liner the next time that I am in the shops but for now, this one will have to do.
Summary: A poor eyeliner that didn't meet any of my needs
