Benefit is a high-end cosmetic brand that supplies skin care products, fragrances and make up. The brand is primarily aimed at teenagers and young adults hence the decorative, abstract packaging and trendy names. Benefit is a quality brand that comes with a large price tag, although their products do last quite a while and are of large quantity. Counters can be found in most large department stores (e.g John Lewis, Debenhams) and staff are always delighted to assist you. It's a superb brand and hits all the right notes with me.
I was debating whether to buy 'brow-zing' for a long time, I wasn't sure if it would be too dark for my fair complexion or look too 'made up' for everyday. Upon a trip to John Lewis, I was drawn to the Benefit counter for a gander. The sales assistant was very welcoming and helpful (although she was slightly clown-faced with about an inch of foundation and eyelashes that looked like spiders!) She sat me down on her pedistool, I about fell off it (cringe), and she gave me a tutorial on how to use the brow kit. It took no more than 3 minutes to transform my brows, and when she shown me the results I was more than impressed. So, I brought it of course! Although the brand is aimed at youngsters, my mother was about drooling over the pretty packaging, so I think anyone could pull Benefit off. With my purchase, I also received two large sample sized skincare products: the Benefit polish scrub and the moisturiser, which wasn't a bad deal. Overall, service at the Benefit counter is superb, staff are always willing to help and the display always looks immaculate, it almost draws you in.
Brow-Zing is used to create a professional brow. The kit includes a wax tint, a powder, an angled brush, a blending brush, tweezers, a compact mirror and a step-by-step tutorial. Benefit isn't tight with the content of their products, as you can see. All of this comes in a cute black, compact box with a retractable lid. The mirror is located inside of the lid; the brow wax and powder is inside the box and the tools are in a mini compartment beneath the wax. In colour, the box is black, and plastic. The brow wax is a glossy, medium brown and the pressed powder is a few shades lighter than a wax - a sort of light brown colour. These colours are multipurpose and I believe they could be used as eye shadows aswell. The brushes are small, about 5cm in length, the brush tip is yellow whilst the bottom stick is black. Very professional, expensive looking packaging with lots inside.
Product claims: 'This complete brow kit comes with all the tools you need for clean, smooth, perfect brows. Shape & define brows with the soft wax, then fill in sparse areas with the natural looking powder.'
Application is quick and relatively easy although you do need to practise it a few times to get it spot on. Take the angled brush and swipe a few times into the wax and follow your natural brow line, don't put too much wax on or it will look unnatural. You only need one layer of the wax. Then, take the blending brush and the pressed powder to shape and define the brows and also to fill in any sparse places to get a full brow. Again, do not overload the powder or it will look too fake, especially if you have fair hair like myself. The wax is used to hold the powder and also to keep the hairs in place all day. The wax is darker than the powder, and the powder is easy to make your brows look natural and soft. The wax and powder work perfectly together, they combine so easily and professional, defined looking brows can be done in a matter of minutes.
You can create many looks with the kit. I tend to opt for a blended, soft brow that's also shaped at the same time for everyday. But, if you want to vamp it up a little you can use a little more wax and draw some more powder on with the angled brush. Don't over do it though or you will look like a drag queen.
Brow-Zing comes in three shades. Light is for fair complexions and hair; Medium is for tanned, dark to medium hair and Dark is for dark skin or very dark hair. I have medium blonde hair with a fair complexion so the shade Light works great for me, it isn't too dark and compliments my colorings great. You still get the complete brow kit in each shade, just different colours of wax and powder. Therefore, Brow-Zing can work for everyone.
Shaping your eyebrows makes a huge difference to your overall look. It just frames your face, especially your eye area and just completes your look. Even if you have no eye makeup on, defined brows make you look amazing. I used to use MAC's Swiss Chocolate eyeshadow with an angled brush to do my eyebrows but I think Brow-Zing looks and applies so much better. The wax makes all the difference, it acts as sort of a primer to hold everything in place. The powder and wax work in harmony together, giving you the best possible results. I tend to apply my brows as the last step of my makeup routine, because otherwise my foundation runs into it and it might get a little messy and smeary.
Of course, this superb kit does come with the Benefit price tag, Brow-Zing retails at £22.50. Although it does seem alot, I think that it's great value for money just because you get the brushes included, the tweezers and the brow kit. Buying all of these utensils separately would cost much more, so this is reasonably good value for a product that actually works. If your not convinced, just visit your local Benefit counter and the staff will be more than happy to give a tutorial or match you up to an appropriate shade for your eyebrows. Plus, this product will last over a year as the wax and powder supply is ample considering you only need a little bit each day to work with.
In conclusion, I couldn't be happier with this product! The powder is easily dupable as a crease colour in your eyeshadow, and the wax could defiantly be used as a liquid liner. I can't comprehend how professional my brows look after using this. The packaging is lovely, but remember to clean your brushes when appropriate. The wax is fragrance free and is easily roved with a baby wipe, vaseline or makeup remover. I was also happy with the service that I received from Benefit - so friendly! You can also buy this from the Benefit online store or on eBay but beware for fakes. I would urge anyone to buy this, I've never looked back.
Fantastic buy, and it has become one of my essential makeup items in my ever-growing kit. 5 stars!
Summary: If you want perfect brows, get this.
