Advantages: instantly smoother silky skin, matte skin all day, over time it improves skin tone

Disadvantages: sticking lid, build up of balm on sponge

I think it is about time that I paid homage to my favourite of all Benefit products; Dr Feelgood. I have only been using it for a couple of months but it has already become a firm favourite of mine.

Dr Feelgood is described as a velvety complexion balm or refiner. For those of you who are lost already it is basically a balm that you apply to your face to even out skin and leave it silky, flawless and matte looking, it is also supposed to smooth away the appearance of fine lines. I was drawn to the product by the packaging. Like all Benefit products the packaging is very 1950?s and is instantly distinguishable from other make-up brands. It can be seen fairly clearly from the picture at the top of this page. A green and black box inside which is a silver tin with a label on the front showing a couple kissing and ?dr. feelgood? written along the bottom in bright pink lettering. It scores top marks for presentation in my opinion.

The Benefit assistant decided to try this product out on me (along with a few other items). As soon as she applied the balm to my face my skin felt incredibly soft and smooth I was genuinely really surprised by how nice it felt. If I hadn?t have tried this on my skin and had just seen it in the tin I wouldn?t have dreamt of applying it to my face as it looks like some kind of greasy furniture polish. I was really surprised when my skin stayed completely matte for the rest of the day and even by the evening it still had a really silky smooth feel to it without any oiliness at all. So don?t be fooled by appearances if you see this as it really is heavenly when you apply it to your skin.

I ended up going back to buy Dr Feelgood because it was so gorgeous. I?ve been using it practically every day because it makes me feel so good! It contains vitamin C which is supposed to brighten the complexion. I?ve found that it does even out my skin tone, though I don?t have to worry about lines at the moment so I can?t comment on it
s ability to improve their appearance. You apply it using a cosmetic sponge that comes inside the tin I put it on in small strokes and dab it around my nose area as I?ve found this is the easiest way to put it on. It felt quite strange applying it at first because I?d never tried anything like it but you soon get used to it.

The product smells very subtly of lemon but this isn?t very obvious and seems to fade when you apply it to your skin. You don?t need a lot of the product at all you just wipe a little onto the sponge and this will usually cover the whole face. It can be applied over make-up but I tend to wear it on its own. I?ve been using it for a couple of months now and hardly any of it seems to be gone from the tin so it will certainly last me at least 8 months I would estimate.

Onto the price. Ok, so it does cost £19 for a 24g tin but personally I think it?s worth it. It is going to last me a long time and after about a month I noticed a definite improvement in my skin tone. I usually apply a little moisturiser and then Dr Feelgood over the top, though I probably don?t need the extra moisturiser really. Also I brought it at Boots and at the time they had an offer on so I received an extra 700 points, also there are often 3 for 2 offers on so look out for them if you are interested.

I do have a couple of complaints about the product but to be honest in comparison with the advantages they are fairly trivial and I think I can overcome them. Firstly I?ve found that sometimes the lid becomes stuck and is a little difficult to remove if you have pushed it on too hard so now I tend just to place it on the tin lightly and not push it down too far. This way it still remains airtight but is easier to remove. Also after a while there is a build up of balm on the sponge. The best way of cleaning it is to hand wash it in warm soapy water, wring it out gently in one hand and then leave it to dry overnight. This prevents any nasty bacteria feste
ring in the sponge and being transferred to your face, but it only needs to be done about once a fortnight.

Overall this is an excellent product. True, it is not something that everyone needs and it is hardly an essential but it IS a lovely product and it does what it is supposed to do. If you are prepared to pay Benefit?s prices then it is definitely worth buying.

Thanks for reading!

19 quid does seem a bit steep but I think it's worth it if you really like a product. It does sound like great stuff!
