Advantages: Really does help complexion, Lasts Ages
Disadvantages: Costs so much :(
It?s my mate?s Hen Night tomorrow night, and since we?re all wearing funny T-shirts, I didn?t need to spend any cash on a new outfit this week,. As usual when I feel I?ve saved a little bit of money, I head to the Benefit counter in Debenhams, to reward myself. Illogical, I know, but that?s just the way I look at things. Life?s to short to fret over spending copious amounts of money on little boxes of make-up; so I rarely feel guilty. My latest purchase was ?Get Even.? I have oily skin, and I?ve just about run out of my translucent powder, I was looking for a replacement, so after a few minutes hovering around the ?Dior? section, I inevitably gravitated towards Benefit, as I usually do. I must admit that piece-by-piece my make-up collection is being taken over by Benefit. It isn?t quite the same as a translucent powder, but I figured it would do the job just as well, if not better. Get Even ******* Check out my other review of ?Benefit Range? for the background on the company, writing the history in this review isn?t really going to be of any benefit to you as it is just the product I want to talk about, and I do not want to gabble on needlessly. The blurb of the box says ?Blot, blot, blot away shine and discoloration with this incredible blotting powder.? And so when I picked up the box I just thought that sounded too good to be true. At £21.50, perhaps it was a little flamboyant a purchase, as I had no idea what I wanted it to do, or indeed what it would be capable of. External Appearance **************** One of Benefit?s more boring products, ?Get Even? comes in a small mattified black box, with the product name in rather large bold writing right in the middle. It is written in a peach colour. The box looks rather elegant in a minimal way. Perhaps I?ve got a new design of packaging, or maybe a dud one! as the other reviewers have mentioned that their compact came inside a suede pouch. Mine has not got a pouch. Inside the
box is a simple black compact, which says Benefit at the bottom and holds 8.9 grams of pressed powder. Inside the compact is a simple round sponge and is leather on top, with Benefit again embossed. The compact also has a mirror on the inside. All simple enough, and quite minimalist. How to Use ********* As the product is named ?Get Even? it is safe to assume that it is intended to even out your complexion. Therefore you simple blot the powder on to any areas of your face that aren?t quite even, or are a little uneven. I, for example, have oily skin on my cheeks and my chin can get a little red at times. And in fact, I have been having a few problems with an uneven complexion at the present moment. Therefore I am a good candidate for testing the powder! Results ****** Although I?m usually rather pale, as I?ve been on holidays my skin is a few shades darker than normal, so I chose the shade ?2? in the product. (There are three shades) Shade two seems a little bit too dark, but I find that if I apply it to all of my face, and not just the problem areas that Benefit suggest, the colour looks natural and very even. Even my mother remarked that my skin looked very healthy after I used the powder yesterday. It is rather heavy- not like a translucent powder, in fact, more like a cross between powder and a light foundation. It stays put on skin for hours, and as it is a Benefit product, it will be likely to last a few months before it runs out. I have noticed however that it looks a little powdery after application (you look like you fell in the ashtray, as my granny would say) this is easily fixed though with a quick sweep of a clean blusher brush. I?d be reluctant to recommend ?Get Even? to those who have dry skin, or dry patches, as from past experience I know that powders generally emphasis this. But ?Get Even? really does work for my oily complexion, and I see it becoming a regular part of my routi
ne. This is rather unfortunate for my Bank Balance, but as clothes and make-up are my only Vice (I rarely drink and don?t smoke or eat a lot of junkfood) then I can live with having no money to spend on other things. Benefit gets a huge thumbs up from me. When I look back on old photographs of myself I find that now I look completely different, and much better/ healthier than I used to. I can only put this down to my choice of make-up. What Benefit does best, is make you glow with fake radiance. And now with my ?naturally flushed cheeks? (Benetint), my healthy complexion ( Dandelion and It Stick), my full pout, (Lip Plump) and my even skin tone (Get Even) people will be easily fooled into thinking I was very lucky genetically!
