Advantages: easy to use; stays put; doesn't block pores

Disadvantages: price

I received Girl Meets Pearl as a gift from a friend. This is a highlighter that illuminates and adds glow to the face. I really liked the cute and pretty design, as well as how easy it is to use the tube that the product comes in. You twist the bottom of the tube and the product comes out in tiny "pearl'' drops from small holes at the top of the tube. You can apply it with your fingertips or glide the stick directly over your face and then blend the product with your fingers. The ease with which it applies was a definite benefit (no pun intended :) ) for me, as there is no need to have a brush/sponge, which I always lose. However, a little disappointingly, sometimes too much product comes out when you slide your finger over the top of the holes, so it tends to be wasted.

The product blends easily and does not look too bright or unnatural on my face. You can also vary the amount of shimmer you want- you can apply just one layer or several coats, and even with many layers it doesn't look oily or cakey. It is very light, does not block pores, and stays put for long. I use it both over my makeup base and without make up. I use it to highlight my cheekbones, under the brow, as well as on the cupid's bow to make lips look fuller. The texture is a bit powdery once on the face with very subtle glitter/shimmer. It does add a pretty glow and makes my face look fresher. Do note though that the product's shade is pinky gold, so it may not be suited for all skin tones and complexions. For example, I find that cold blue-y and silvery highlighters suit my colour-type (pale, blonde, blue eyes) better than gold, warm colours.

Overall, a nice foolproof :) highlighter for those who like to add a little extra je ne sais quoi to their makeup routine ;). I do not consider this product a necessity and I think you can easily substitute it with gold shimmer eye shadow or similar. It is also quite pricey at around 24 pounds, so maybe worth looking at ebay or other resellers.

Summary: nice product but not essential
