While applying my daily dose of make-up this morning, I realized that I was running extremely low on my trusty Benefit Non Fiction Foundation, which upset me deeply. Thankfully, I was heading to my local Boots anyway, so I could pick up a new one.
"Sorry sweetheart, we've discontinued it". My heart sunk. That's when they offered me the Benefit Playstick. I was told it was like Non Fiction except in solid form. Hw wrong they were...
Benefit say, "Concealer, foundation and powder all in one? our velvety smooth crayon sticks are marvelously fun, easy and encourage you to apply just as much or as little as you need. The combination of green tea and chamomile soothes your skin while cover. It makes covering up child's play!"
The foundation comes in a cylindrical tube which is split horizontally across the middle for easy access to the product. It's a metallic blue colour and all of the writing is printed in white. On the front I'm told the product name, brand and weight. On the back I'm given a brief description, directions and ingredients. Inside the cardboard tube you are given the foundation stick and leaflet which reads "its fun to be flawless with this ultra-light foundation stick! containing green tea, chamomile and ginkgo biloba, playsticks help promote a healthy complexion with giving natural looking coverage", in many different languages.
The tube of foundation itself is a metallic lilac/blue/grey colour and it simply has 'benefit' printed down the side. When you open it up, you can see the product inside which looks nice and creamy.
I followed the directions and applied it directly to my face then blended with my foundation brush. It was easy to apply but this is where the good bit stops.
Ultra light? Pffffft.
It was heavy and cakey. Not something I find attractive thank you very much.
The apparent natural coverage wasn't there either. I have never met anyone who naturally looks like orange chalk.
As for the colour, it looked perfect in the store (damn those fluorescent lights), but as soon as I walked into natural light, it was hello orange! I'm no skin expert either, but I'm not stupid, I know that skin has to breathe, so wearing this crap on your face everyday probably won't "help promote a healthy complexion" either.
It doesn't stop here though. I kept it on for a few hours to see if I could get used to it, thankfully I didn't because it didn't even stay put! After an hour I noticed it was getting patchy, after 3 it was almost completely gone! It's not like I'm a sweaty person either, or someone who rubs their face alot, so this was another major put off.
Next thing. The price. £25.
That's right, £25 for 8.5g of orange, cakey crap. Not the best way to spend £25 in my opinion. That's half of a Dooyoo cheque!
Advantages
---------------
- nice box
- easy to apply
Disadvantages
-----------------
- price
- colour
- coverage
- consistency
- staying power
As you can probably tell, I won't be repurchasing this. Maybe it'll work for someone who needs alot more coverage, or someone who is the same colour as David Dickinson, but definitely not for me.
On the other hand, a friend of mine uses this foundation and loves it, so you really will have to try it before you buy it. Just don't buy it without checking the colour in natural light first.
Thanks for reading!
