Benefit They're Real Mascara
Advantages: Lengthens and thickens the lashes
Disadvantages: Quite hard to get off and it's expensive
They're Real is a new mascara that has been created by Benefit. It promises to do just about everything that you could ever want from a mascara including lengthening, thickening, curling, separating and lifting the lashes. Benefit claim that the mascara is long lasting and that you won't experience any smudging or clumping because of the specially designed wand.
How do you use the mascara?
The product is to be used in the same way as any other mascara. It is to be applied to the roots of the lashes and then moved to the tip of the lashes in a zig zag motion. You can apply as many layers as required and then the product can be removed with eye make remover.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a chunky silver tube which has some florescent orange writing on it. It has a screw top lid and the wand is inside which is quite chunky and has a bump on the end. The box gives some more information about the product and some details about how it is to be used.
The product is on par with the other Benefit mascaras so it doesn't come cheap. It will cost you around £18 for 8.5 grams and it can be bought from any store with a Benefit counter including Boots and plenty of online websites.
The mascara is easy to use and it coats the lashes well because of how the brush is designed. The wand separates the lashes as you apply the product which prevents any clumping. Benefit say that you can apply as many layer as required but I have found that one is enough and the more layers you apply, the less the individual lashes show.
The mascara is very dark and makes the lashes look very defined and nice. It does thicken and volumise the lashes as promised making them look full and healthy. I'm not sure whether it lifts and curls the lashes but I use an eyelash curler anyway so this isn't a problem for me.
The main problem with this mascara comes when it is time to remove it. It seems to completely coat the individual lashes with an almost additional layer. Even when using eye make up remover, it doesn't completely come off and it takes a lot of rubbing before it's all off. The mascara is quite dramatic and I tend to use it for night wear instead of day wear.
The mascara has a lot of the same qualities as Bourjois's clubbing mascara which you can buy for less than half the price. All in all, this is a lovely mascara but as you can get a similar one for much cheaper, I probably won't repurchase the product when it's gone.
Summary: A mascara which lengthens, thickens and separates the lashes
