Benefit They're Real Mascara
Advantages: Makes the lashes look amazing, natural and fuller; tip of the wand
Disadvantages: Only available in Black, expensive, second coating doesn't always look great
A relative newcomer to using Benefit products, I have swiftly become a convert, and have amassed quite a collection of products in the few short months since I have started using their products. A fan of nearly all the products I have tried by Benefit, it is difficult to pinpoint a favourite, however this mascara has to be right up there along with LemonAid.
To get the most from this mascara, you really should start out by only applying a small amount, so clear the excess content from the wand by dabbing the end of the wand around the neck of the tube. Start by applying the mascara at the base of the lashes and you see them look fuller and longer immediately. The soft rubbery feeling bristles apply really nicely to the lashes and the effect is instant. They coat the lashes well but rather than clump the lashes together like most mascaras that promise fuller lashes, they separate them at the same time.
As I've got a little older, I've noticed that my lashes appear finer and certainly not as long. While I've tried false lashes on the occasional night out, they really aren't for me, thus makes finding the perfect mascara even more important, and I believe I've done it! I can see a noticeable difference when I apply this mascara, while still appearing natural and nice looking rather than spidery and naff!
An extra benefit to this mascara, aside from being fab (!), is the tip of the wand has the little spikey bits all around it which means applying to the corner of the eyes is much simpler and doesn't result in you getting mascara all over your face!
One aspect of the mascara which doesn't seem too great is the ability to over apply once a coating has dried. I find my lashes can look great, but if I'm on a night out and wanting a heavier eye look, I have attempted to apply another coat on top once the first has dried, but it just doesn't like it, and looks clumped and spidery. Perhaps I am leaving this second coating too late and should try applying when it isn't fully dry....
This mascara is honestly the best mascara I have ever tried, and using it alongside LemonAid, my eyes appear natural but look great. Use LemonAid alone if you don't like wearing eyeshadow and it will cover up any veins / darkness to the lid. You can also apply it under eyeshadow as a primer.
My only niggle is I prefer to use a black / brown colour mascara as I think it looks much more natural than jet black, but unfortunately it is only available in black.
The packaging has quite a luxurious feel to it, with its pewter tubing and nice angled shape making it easy to hold.
Full price you will expect to pay £19.50 for this 8.5g mascara, however as with most things, it can be picked up cheaper online so do shop around.
