A good highlighter to use for a shimmery bronzed look that stays

I received Benefit's 'Watt's Up' highlighter for Christmas after asking for it ever since I tried this out at a Benefit counter.

      Benefit state about this product:

"Our soft focus highlighter turns on "watt" ya got with a delicate champagne glow that's gorgeous. With a cream-to-powder finish...it's a switch on "wow" for all complexions. You'll adore the smooth applicator & luminous sheen."

Benefit products can be quite pricey and so I never really purchase anything unless I have tested it beforehand so know it would be a good buy, or if I have read good reviews. There is a Benefit counter in my nearest Debenhams and Boots, but as there are usually staff there wanting to try the products out on you I always tend to keep away, as I hate that! So when I noticed no staff lingering around the Benefit counter in Debenhams one day I took the opportunity to look at and try out some of their tester products without being harassed.

'Watt's up' is one of the highlighters available from Benefit, and they have a few. I am already a fan of Benefit's 'high beam' and so wanted another highlighter that was more of a golden colour than a pink colour, and 'Watt's Up' is exactly that. I recommend this shade would go better on darker skin tones or those slightly tanned as it gives a nice glow that would probably look slightly odd on very pale skin.

The highlighter comes in a stick that you need to twist up and then glide on cheek & brow bones, or wherever you want to apply it, and then sculpt with its soft blender that is attached to the other end of the tube. Both the highlighter and the end with the sponge attached have lids that come off completely. I have found the lids fall off quite easily even when just lying in my make up bag, and so be sure to twist the highlighter back down after use in case this happens, to prevent it from getting everywhere.

This can be applied solo or over existing makeup.

I personally use this mostly on my cheeks over my existing makeup, and occasionally on my nose as it can make it appear thinner. After applying I use the sponge to blend it in, but have found sometimes it is best to use my fingers to work it in properly otherwise it can appear very shiny and glossy.

I love the results and this stays put all day, there is no need to reapply! It doesn't appear 'sweaty' either, just a lovely bronzed shimmer. I find this much better than any powder based highlighters I have used as you have more control of where you apply it and it is so easy to blend in to exactly how you want it to appear.

Benefit Watts Up is priced at £24.50 from Benefit, which can be found in Debenhams, House of Fraser, Boots and many online retailers. I have often seen this available online for cheaper if you purchase from Amazon or eBay. It is definitely worth the money though as it lasts for ages and is now one of my favourite make-up products, I will definitely be purchasing again!

      Disadvantages

I bought this product after being recommended it at my local benefit counter, I had read it was really good and could not wait to try it for myself!but after using this several times as directed by the benefit counter assistant It does not look as good as I expected, it doesn't seem to blend well and when I try and blend it I find it removes some of my foundation underneath but I'm going to persist anyway, the good bits are; it has a faint nice smell to it so not perfumed but not bad smelling either like some cosmetics and the packaging is great like most benefit packaging is.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Lasts for ages

I have had quite a lot of difficulty finding a good product that works well with my sensitive skin. A lot of makeup brands send my skin into spots or blemishes but Benefit seems to be working well. I was in Boots looking for a concealer or top up that wasnt gloopy or obvious, the shop assistant recommended this to me. Its about £25 for a 9.4g tube.

The product is inside a tube that you can twist to get more out when necessary. On the other end there is a blending tool but I never use that, its easier to dab some on your fingertip and rub it on. It comes in a pretty little box with the vintage style design that Benefit uses. When I bought it at xmas it came gift wrapped as well so it was like a present to myself.

You can only get this in one shade as when on it doesnt look colourful it looks shimmery and subtle. You dont need to apply a lot as a little goes a long way. Although semi soft when on your finger it gives a matt finish.

Its a great product to have in your handbag as if you have worn foundation all day and fancy going straight out somewhere then you dont need to redo your whole makeup routine, just apply some of this Whatts Up and it will lighten and brighten your face. Its also great for covering up little blemishes without having to use a heavy concealer. It works well over foundation and can blend easily and quickly.

I would recommend keeping this in your handbag for those moments when you dont want a whole new face of makeup, and on nights out when you want something a bit shimmery and bright eyed. I wear mine most days and it has lasted over 4 months and is still going.

A subtle and natural highlighter to add definition to the face.

I love all of Benefits products and one of their latest creations is Watts Up? Despite already owning plenty of highlighters, I couldn't leave this one on the shelf.

What does the product do? The product is a highlighter for the face which promises to add a soft definition to the skin and to enhancement what you've already got. It claims to give the skin a dewy glow and a luminous sheen leaving you looking healthy and fresh faced.

How do you use the product? The product is dual ended. With the first end you smooth the product onto the cheek bones and the brow bones directly from the applicator. On the other side of the applicator is a little blender which allows you to perfect its finish. The product can be used alone for those who dare to bear but I prefer to use it as a finishing touch to my make up.

Price and Packaging The product comes in a coral coloured box which has light bulbs on the front and the highlighter comes in a lipstick type tube. The tube is a lovely metallic silver with a black rim and the tube can be twisted to move the product higher up. The lid is like a lovely jewel and at the other side of the tube is soft blender which is covered with a transparent plastic lid. The packaging is quite bulky and it does take up quite a lot of room in my make up bag for what it is but it does look lovely.

As with all of Benefits products, this one doesn't come cheap and it will set you back around £25 for 9.4 grams of the product. It can be bought from any store which has a Benefit counter and also from a variety of online websites, including Benefits.

Application The application of this product is simple. It glides nicely over the top of finished make up, without wiping any of it off, and the blender allows you to adjust the look to suit your needs perfectly. The blender is a lovely addition but I've found that my fingers to the same (and much quicker) job so after the first few uses, I haven't really found myself using it.

It has a creamy consistency which allows it to glide smoothly onto the skin but it has a gorgeous powder finish, allowing you to have a matt yet luminous finish that I love. It doesn't look greasy or oily and doesn't give you a shiny complexion at all.

Performance What I love about this product is that it gives a natural finish which is warm so it appears that your skin is healthy, rather than something you've slapped on. I have also loved Moonbeam by Benefit but this does look artificial and so this gets brownie points over that in this area.

The finishing touch is very subtle so for those who'd rather a more 'made up' look, this might not be for. It isn't glittery or shimmery so even the faint hearted would probably enjoy wearing this. This product is lovely for day wear but I would probably switch to a more obvious one on a night out.

The product has good stay power and it doesn't need reapplication. Mine usually lasts all the way until it's time to wash off my make up. It feels completely natural on the skin and hasn't caused any blemishes or irritations on my sensitive and spot prone skin.

All in all, this is a fantastic highlighter for those who want to add a subtle glow and gentle definition to their face. It is pretty much fool proof and you'd be hard pressed to make a mistake using this. It's expensive but will be very long lasting so over time, you'll get your moneys worth. I will definitely be repurchasing this once mine is gone... Which won't be any time soon.
