Having had a quick squizz at the other reviews on You Rebel by Benefit, it appears I am almost alone in my dislike of this product.
What is it?
It is a tinted moisturiser with an SPF of 15. It only comes in one colour which is just wrong on my skin - I don't know why as I usually take a 'medium' in foundations but this makes my face look totally orange and streaky!
The tinted moisturiser is packaged quite quirkily in a tube with a screw top lid, like old fashioned toothpaste. It is red and has 'You Rebel' printed down the side in large letters. My tube is very metal feeling and the paint has come away in places as I have scrolled the tube down. I do actually like the packaging and the metal tube allows you to squeeze out every last bit of the foundation which is good.
I bought my tube ages ago and can't remember the price but I just looked and it is priced £23.50 for 50 ml on the Boots website.
I normally apply this product with fingertips and try and blend it on with a sponge but many times have ended up removing and starting again. The product has a definite bronzy sheen to it which I don't mind in bronzer on certain parts of my face but I don't want it literally all over my face!
Benefits of benefit
The product contains antioxidants, aloe vera & allantoin for soft, supple skin all year long. I like the thought of these ingredients being in something I am putting on my face
I really have mixed views on the Benefit brand. I love some items and hate others. I don't think it's aimed at people wanting a natural look so best to avoid if you think less is more. With the You Rebel it is not a tinted foundation I would consider a repeat purchase of. I can't get through the tube I already have! But having said that I would consider using it on a holiday if I wanted something a bit lighter on my skin and my face was a more tanned colour to start off with.
I think I have to give up and accept that this product is just not for me. It doesn't suit my skin or complexion and to me, doesn't warrant that expensive price tag.
1 out of 5 stars. Sorry.
I always like to try out new products (Unless something I am using is beyond good - Take the Touche Eclat - Miracles will happen for me to now switch over) so with summer coming up I have been looking for a tinted moisturiser. The next on my list to test again (I'm sure I used this way back when, when my housemate was a Benefit addict also) was You Rebel by Benefit.
This is marketed as a tinted moisturiser - Basically a very light coverage that will look after you skin. So. If you are looking to really cover blemishes and even out scarring and patchy skin tone this might not be the product for you, but, if you generally have good skin and are looking for something to give you some coverage then this could be your option (especially as you can avoid your makeup sliding down your face in a hot office......)
For me this has proven to work really well, I like the smell of the product, I like the way it feels on my skin and I find it gives my skin a good finish. I will be honest, this is going to be for summer only for two reasons: Firstly I need a thicker product for better coverage in winter and secondly because without a natural summer tan this is far to dark for my skin tone (If you haven't read my reviews before I am very pale skinned so if you don't get any colour in the summer I wouldn't attempt this - You might just look like you've been "Tangoed") Actually, on a slight side note from my "pale and interesting" tales I have very sensitive skin also and I don't seem to react to this.
The tinted moisturiser comes in at £23.50 for 50ml (although I think you can get it slightly cheaper if you look around sites like Amazon or bay) But, considering Benefit are a high end makeup line and you are also getting a moisturiser and SPF of 15 which, Smells nice and works well I think you are on your way.
The product comes with Benefit's standard quirky packaging and the product seems to last well (I've been using it for a while now and I don't seem to be hurtling through at a rate of knots. And it can use also on neck/collar bone too. It applies well using fingers or sponge (although that mops a lot up so you use more) but I wouldn't recommend using a brush, it just doesn't seem to work - I think, for me at lease, applying like you do a moisturiser (making sure you don't leave any marks) is the best way to get the product on your skin.
Yes, it is expensive but personally I think it is worth the splash as works really well, it lasts on your skin and gives you a great finish. I think it's worth getting as all in one for summer, and, according to the Benefit website so do many of their other customers as they have now flagged it as a "top seller" - If you need a change check this one out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I stumbled across this in my quest for a no foundation foundation. Benefit claim that this is an ultra lightweight tinted moisturiser. It comes in a red 50ml tube that costs £23.50 and is available online, or at benefit stores and stations in department stores nationwide. The tube however is not sturdy and there are some cracks in it after about 9 months of use.
The product comes in two shades, one dark and one light. It contains SPF 15, Aloe Vera, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. I chose the darker shade to suit my skintone. It wasn't a perfect match but with powder foundation on top it became a suitable day wear makeup product.
At the benefit counter, the make-up lady applied the product on my face with a brush, however i tend to apply it with my fingers and then go over it with a kabuki brush. I prefer to use my fingers as this way less product is wasted into the brush. Its very easy to blend and sinks into the skin. It's also very good to layer up with other products, however i find that putting another cream product such as a cream blush doesn't work quite as well as a powder blush does ontop.
After using this, i felt my skin felt nice and soft, with a good hint of colour. The coverage wasn't amazing, but it wasn't terrible either. This isn't the best tinted moisturiser in the world but it is good, it doesn't break me out and i will definately consider rebuying it. It also lasts a long time, i've had it for 9 months and it's still going strong.
This product is definatly the one to get if you use powdered foundation.
I've been using this product for over a year now. I orginally started using it as my skin looked flaky and dry after I had applied my powder foundation. You Rebel solves this problem. I put it on before applying any make-up and it makes my skill look hydrated and eliminated by dry looking skin. I am not very tanned and thought the tint my look a bit fake on my but it really blends in well.
I have now switched to liquid foundation so I no longer use it as a base however I find that if I am a littlee tanned and my skin is looking clear You Rebel gives me a flawless look and a healthy glow when on its own. It smoothes over my skin and gives me a perfect palette to apply blush.
You rebel is a tinted moisturiser from benefit retailing at £23.50, it acts as a lightweight foundation giving your face full coverage and SPF 15 protection all at the same time. As well as this the 50ml product also contains aloe, vitamin a and e; all known to soothe and improve the skins appearance. The product can be purchased from boots, Debenhams, or can be dispatched within 24 hours from www.benefitscosmetics.co.uk.
Again this product was first introduced to me when I had a make-up trial at boots. I do not tend to wear foundation during the day, so this tinted moisturised was perfect for me. It was easy to apply with a make-up brush; it was quite subtle and covered my skin making it flawless and smooth. Benefit sells several make-up brushes which can help you to achieve an even look. It is a non greasy product, and suited my skin, even though I have a fair mixed oily/dry skin tone. It did not dry out my skin either like other tinted moisturizer products. I also found the you rebel to be more effective than the you rebel lite, which is for very fair skinned girls. I found that you rebel gives you a bit more colour if you have a fair-medium skin tone, I did not like the 'lite' version as much as it did not give me enough colour; although very pale girls or girls who want a very subtle coverage may prefer this product.
The you rebel moisturiser can also be mixed with other benefit products because it is fairly light and non heavy like foundation. If you mix it on the side of your hand with high beam or girl meets pearl you can make your skin look even more radiant. I have found the product to be quite versatile because in the day I can apply a small amount to my skin for a natural look or for nights out I will put on more of the product and mix it with one of the benefit highlighters named above.
Since I have been introduced to the product I have used it every day and it has become an important part of my make-up collection. It is fairly pricey at £23.50 but it does last quite a while, which in my view makes up for the price. The only down side to the product is that after a while the metallic bottle the moisturiser comes in starts to peel and it can be hard to get the last bits of the product out as the packing becomes very stiff and hard. So the only downside is the packaging the product comes in.
I have had this product for about 14 mnths and it has only just ran out, so the price i worth it, as a little goes a long way.
I first tried You Rebel when i had a makeover at the benefit counter, and i was sooooo impressed at the flawless skin the girl had created on my face, and snapped You Rebel up straight away. I have used it nearly everyday since!
The tinted moisturiser makes my skin look healthy, hydrated, and an even colour, without looking like i've got anything on; Completely natural gorgeous skin. I'm so happy i found this product, as i was looking for a foundation to even out my skin tone, but You Rebel does the job without looking cakey, or false, and it has never given me any spots because it's so lightweight on my skin. This is definately my best beauty buy, i could've never lived without it! The only thing they could improve, is the tube, because the colour has came off so it's now silver and the product can be difficult to get out when it's nearly all gone, but that's all.
As I used to work for benefit I known lot about their products and which ones I would spend my own money on over others. This one is a definite must for my make up kit though.
I don't have great skin so I tend to wear a full coverage foundation most of the time, but in some circumstances thats just not practical. So when I am on holiday for example I would opt for a tinted moisturiser and this one would be my choice. It is lightweight but I still feel as though it gives me enough coverage and a nice tinted glow to my face. As it colour adapts to your skin tone I don't have to worry about needling 2 products for when I get a tan, which is very useful. plus with factor 15 SPF I am also protected from the sun and don't need to use greasy sun creams only face!
It is also a very long-lasting product as you only need a very small amount so a tube tends to last at least a year with regular use. Making it good value at it's price.
The only downside I would say is that the product (like with most moisturisers) can make my skin a little shiny. So I would recommend using with a product like dr feel good to Matt the skin first.
I have been using Benefit's You Rebel for over a year now, and I have to say, out of all the foundations and tinted moisturisers I've used in my life, it's finally the one I've stuck with!
Why? Well, being of a darker skin tone it is absurdly difficult to find reasonably priced beauty products matching your skin tone! You Rebel, as a tinted moisturiser matches up nicely to your skin, making it look more even toned. It hasn't had any bad effects on my skin either, no spots, no dryness, nothing! If anything, the spf 15 in this protects your skin from sun damage without you even having to think about it! What has this lead to in the long run? Beautiful even skin, even without the You Rebel on! But I have to say, this tinted moisturiser still adds that extra glow.
I've found one tube of You Rebel, with daily use, lasts me for months, so it's totally worth the money!
Though a word of warning, I have been told I haven't got the most problem ridden skin, so perhaps if you have a lot of scarring etc it might not be as well suited for you, rather that You Rebel just slightly evens out your overall skin tone.
I had this bought for me for Christmas a few years ago, I have regularly used it since. I don't wear an awful lot of makeup. My skin doesn't need a lot so I thought a tinted moisturiser sounded like a good idea to get a bit of colour to my face and moisturise at the same time.
This particular tinted moisturiser comes in a metallic red tube which contains 50ml and costs £23.50 from the Benefit counter which you can find in Boots and other large department stores, you can also get it online. Benefit describe this moisturiser as 'a defiantly different tinted moisturiser, it will leave your complexion healthy and protected with a hint of colour'. The moisturiser also contains aloe vera to soothe the skin as well as moisturise, Vitamin A to help protect the skin and resist aging and Vitamin E to protect from free radicals.
To use this tinted moisturiser you simply apply to clean dry skin. You can use your fingers or a foundation brush. I prefer to use my fingers. You only need to use the smallest amount, about the size of a pea. It comes out of the tube a pale brown colour and has a really creamy consistency. It is easy to rub into the skin and absorbs quickly.
After using this my skin felt moisturised and had a healthy glow without being too overloaded with colour. It is very sheer so wouldn't offer much coverage for blemishes. I also liked the fact that the product contains SPF 15, so it protects against aging as well. I have quite fair skin and found that this suits my skin colouring. It is excellent for the summer as it doesn't run off or looked caked on.
I would recommend this for all skin types, it is really good for a sheer and natural look that is great for day to day. I will give it 4 out of 5 I will deduct a star as the three times I have bought this the metal tube has split and leaked the product out.
With summer approaching, I decided it was time to look into a new tinted moisturizer. For some time, I have faithfully used one by No7 at Boots however when it ran out I decided it was time for a change. I tend to avoid wearing foundation where ever possible during the summer months. I prefer to let the sun tan my face without me realising (hopefully) and I don't like the feeling of being clogged up with foundation in the heat. I have found it difficult though to find a product that gives the right coverage and is the right colour.
I am a fan of Benefit products and I've been adding to my collection recently. I find that their products are different to others from the first glance. The packaging is very vibrant and catches the eye. I always feel their products are extremely good quality as although the prices are similar to premium brands like Estee Lauder, they are definitely worth it.
This product is presented in a squeezy tube that is similar to a tooth paste tube. It works to same to get the product out too, as it needs to be squeezed. I don't think this tube is as attractive as some of their other products as it is plain in comparison to some, however this isn't an issue but it was something that stood out to me. It simply states the name on the front. At a rather expensive price of £21.50, some people might hesitate but I was full of confidence after being impressed with others Benefit products that I have used in the past. The Benefit consultant applied the product and it seemed perfect - great coverage and it really matched my skin tone.
Since then I have used the product myself and I have been really pleased with it. I get the odd spot which I apply concealer to but when this is used over the top it makes my face look like it has an extremely even coverage. The colour adapts to the melanin in your skin which means it'll be a great colour. This product is also available in a lighter shade which may be more suitable for some.
It also contains SPF 15 which is another bonus! It feels really light on my skin and blends extremely well. The overall coverage appears as a tanned glow and I would definitely purchase this product again.
Over the years the quality of my make up has improved drastically and I put this down to getting older! My complexion, although generally good (not really spotty plus I am blessed with an olive skin tone) is getting older and I have found that I need much more coverage than I usually do. I have spent the past year using a foundation from Max Factor but I felt that this was actually too heavy for me. Having used different kinds of Benefit products and liking the results, I had what I would consider a massive benefit spending spree a month or so ago after having a make over. I am just a sucker when it comes to someone telling me what suits me, and so I literally bought everything the bloody woman put on me, including "You Rebel"!
At my consultation with the benefit lady in Boots, I told her that I needed enough coverage to even out my skin tone (I am a bit red across my nose and on my chin) and cover any occasional spots, but I didn't want to feel caked as I had felt with my current foundation. The result was that she suggested You Rebel as it is a tinted moisturiser and therefore would provide me with the coverage I needed but would feel lighter on my skin.
**Packaging & Ease of Use**
For anyone who hasn't heard of the Benefit range or seen any of their branded stuff, it really is a treat for the eyes; most of the packaging for the make up is a little bit retro and very very pretty for those magpies out there!
However, You Rebel doesn't really fall into this category and is much more brash in its design than the other bits. This moisturiser comes in a tube a bit like a toothpaste tube and is a bright red with the You Rebel name across the tube. There are no other fancy logos or pictures on the tube at all.
The good thing about the design is that it is very easy to use - squeezing from the bottom of the tube like you would a tube of toothpaste of course! I've since learnt that you only need a small amount of product (more on that in a bit) for coverage which I squeeze onto the back of my hand. I tend to use a foundation brush to apply as I find this gives a more even coverage across my face.
**Coverage & Colour**
Despite the Benefit consultant telling me that this foundation would be a light coverage as it was a tinted moisturiser, I didn't find this to be true but its not necessarily a bad thing. I've used tinted moisturisers in the past and this one is definitely heavier. I definitely felt that the application was very heavy when it was put on me and the first couple of times I used it myself I was pleased with the general effect but unhappy how shiny my face was in places as well as it feeling a bit heavy on my skin. I've since, as I have mentioned, worked out that I do not need as much product as first thought, so I guess if you are using this it takes a bit of experimenting to get the right coverage first!
Now that I have got the right amount to apply to my skin, I am really pleased with the results I have. The first night I wore it I was at a party and was thrilled with the pictures I saw of my skin that night (see my profile picture that was the night and I have never seen my skin look that smooth and healthy half way through a night of drinking!)
I am also pleased with the colour of this moisturiser. I have read plenty of reviewers who weren't happy with both the heavy texture and the colour but luckily for me, this tint is perfect for my skin tone. They have no brought out a benefit light so I imagine that there was a massive need for this as You rebel original is clearly meant for medium to darker skin tones. If this is you, I would suggest you try it!
Very pleased. I've now been using this along with the other products (which I am bound to review!) almost every day and its proven to be long lasting on my skin and I can see that its a product that will also last a while as only a small amount Is needed. Benefit has always been a firm favourite for me, but now so is You Rebel.
**Things To Note:**
Contains Aloe, Vitamin A and Vitamin E as well as SPF 15 protection
Mix it with a little "Girl Meets Pearl" - Benefits new product - review up soon!
Benefit You Rebel is a tinted moisturiser which comes in a red metal tube (kind of like a toothpaste tube) and is priced at £21.50. The product provides a light to medium coverage and is suitable for all skin types although those with very fair skin should probably go for the lite version of this (which is in a beige coloured tube).
You basically unscrew the cap and squeeze a small amount onto your fingers then apply to the face as you would any tinted moisturiser.
The product is actually quite orange in colour and has quite a thick consistency. It looks a lot darker than it does when actually applied to the face. It goes on well and is easy to blend.
I must say, I am not a big fan of this. I find that it gives an unnatural colouring to the skin - it's more of an orangey tint. I have a fair to medium skintone which is lightly tanned and I find this does not look natural on me at all. I can only get away with it if I use a tiny amount which then gives me hardly any coverage at all and so defeats the whole purpose! I have not tried the lite one but I have a feeling this would be too pale for me so I'm not going to waste my money on it.
I also don't really like the smell of it either. It smells a bit metallic and almost stale if that makes sense - like a musty cupboard or something. It's not that mine is out of date as it was bought fresh from the store!
As this product was so expensive, I was determined to try to finish it off. Once you use about half of it, the tube becomes quite ragged at the bottom and when you start rolling the end bit up the metal of the tube starts to burst open at the sides. You end up with a sorry looking squashed and battered tube which ends up getting binned before it's finished. I think the tube is quite poorly designed in this way and that a plastic tube or pump dispenser would be much better.
I also didn't think much of this as a "moisturiser" either - quite the opposite in fact. I noticed no hydrational difference to my skin although I do like that it has SPF15 in it so it gets an extra star for that.
All in all, I would not buy this product again. I think it's quite overpriced and, well, just not very good.
What is it?
A tinted moisturiser from Benefit called 'You Rebel'
When I first used this moisturiser, I wasnt sure, it seemed very dark and orangey. But then I found out that this particular moisturiser is HEAT ACTIVATED. If you leave in sunlight or any high temperature, this changes the colour! (fine when on the face though!)
I then tried it again and loved it. It wasn't orangey at all and adapted well to my skin.Gave me a tanned glow! You can wear this alone or underneath foundation or mixed in with foundation. I find it works great with a little foundation so that it lasts longer and covers a little more if need be.
Any other info?
This moisturiser is yellow based. Great for most skin tones. But would not be good for very pale skin.
Would advise people to check this product with a conultant before buying it perhaps to make sure the colour has not changed in the tube (product may have been stored somewhere humid). This product lasts around 6 months!! So you do get your moneys worth!
I love this tinted moisturiser for the day as i think it is slightly more than tinted maybe halfway between tinted and foundation if you get me as when i put this on i always look healthy, like my face has make up on but not to heavy and it evens out my skintone. I hate my bare face but never want to wear foundation during the day so this is perfect. There is also a lite version of this available. spf15 boosts this as a good but for me too!! I think it is worth the £21.50 price tag and would only buy this. the tube lasts a looong time as you only need a little. I'v been recomending this product to my friends and they have all been purchasing it. This product hides tired dull skin (or a big nite out) and leaves your skin looking smooth and healthy when you have to go work next morning...lol...trust me!!
You rebel is very dark, in the winter months I find I cant use it as my complexiton is too light, however benefit have introduced a lighter version which I am yet to try. However through the summer months when I have more of a tan I love how this product feels on my skin, its really light and you dont need a lot. Litterally 2 pea sizes!!! when you wear this you feel as though you have no make up on which is really refreshing, and never get it transfering onto clothes as some foundations do. I would however not buy this tone again as I cant be confident it hasnt left me with streaks, because I have a lighter complexion and I dont want to have to wait until I am all tanned to use it.
for £20 is may seem a lot but will last forever!! I cant complain at the price however I do suggest before you purchase that you try this out, make sure you dont just try it on in the shop. the benefit sales person always say it suits every skin tone but I dont think this is the case, it may look great in shop light but totally different with outside light. you may find you have streaks!!!
