Advantages: Makes sore lips feel much better

Disadvantages: Can run out quickly if you need to be using it a lot

I often have chapped and sore lips, especially during the winter months. Lip balm will often only have a temporary effect on soothing my lips, so I started looking around for something that would actually treat the problem rather than just deal with the dryness. That is why I opted for this, as it is a medicated lip cream that is specifically designed for sore, chapped and flaking lips.

***Using The Cream***
When I first applied it to my lips, I could feel it start to tingle. If your lips are very sore, this can be a bit unpleasant for a minute or two after application but it should settle down quite quickly. It smells quite chemical and a little bit menthol, so this is probably why. You only need to use a tiny bit of the cream on your lips so the small tube goes a long way for lips that are only moderately chapped. However, the instructions indicate that you should apply it on an hourly basis at first (although I'm not entirely sure whether this refers to chapped lips or the cold sores that it can also treat), so if you have quite sore lips like me, you might get through a tube more quickly than you anticipate. I have had my tube for around six months and it has yet to run out, but then I am not using this every day.

***Does It Work?***
After using this for around half a day, it will usually do a great job of sorting out my sore lips. This is based on hourly applications. It can be annoying to have to apply it every hour and I must admit that I sometimes forgot to do this! It leaves my lips feeling much softer and more moisturised. Unlike a lot of lip balms, it did not leave my lips feeling sticky and there was a nice but subtle glossy sheen to my lips.

***The Price***
A small 5g tube cost me just over £2 from Boots. It is good value if you don't need to be using it too often (ie if you have chapped lips on more of an occasional basis), but you may need to buy another tube fairly quickly if you have very sore lips. Either way, I consider it to be good value as it did a fantastic job on my lips and it is still cheaper than many lip balms.

Summary: Finally something to soothe chapped lips!
