I got quite a good coverage from my foundation but it doesn't cover all my imperfections. I needed something to properly cover up my blemishes and dark spots and so the Face Touch Up Stick by Bobbi Brown.
What does the product do?
The product is designed to be a finishing touch for your make up. It promises to keep your foundation looking fresh all day long and that it will cover up your blemishes and imperfections as well as any redness. It gives full coverage and uses a creamy formula to glide across all areas of the face although it isn't suitable for use on under the eyes. It has been designed for use on those with combination to normal skin.
The product comes in a variety of shades and they have pretty self explanatory names such as Ivory, Beige and Chestnut. There are quite a few different shades so you should be able to find something to suit your colouring.
How do you use the product?
The product is a finishing touch for you make up. Once you have finished your make up, you dab this stick directly onto the blemish or imperfections and then blend it into the skin.
Price and Packaging
The product comes contained within a sleek black plastic tube which you have to twist in the same way as you would with a lipstick. It has Bobbi Brown written on the side of the tube and a black lid to protect the product. The product isn't very cheap and it will cost you around £19. It can be bought from department stores like Debenhams and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product is easy to use and it really just a concealer in a thin tube. The product has a creamy consistency which glides onto the skin without pulling or dragging the surface. It is thick enough to cover red blemishes and other imperfections but no so thick that it makes you look caked in make up. As the product comes in so many shades, I've thought that my chosen product has matched my skin well. Because the product is creamy, then it is easy to blend the product into my skin.
The product is long lasting and it will cover my blemishes for hours although the design of the product makes retouches simple and quick. The product isn't designed for use under the eyes and I can see why. When I tried it, I found the formula was too thick there and it looked unnatural and highlighted my fine lines. I'll stick to my Touch Eclat for this purpose! I don't know how hygienic it is to touch the blemish with the skin but I know most concealers work in the same. It hasn't irritated my skin or caused me to experience any discomfort. It is easily removed using my usual make up remover.
All in all, this does everything that you would want a concealer to do. It has a creamy consistency which glides over the skin and a good coverage to hide your imperfections. It's long lasting and as you use such a little bit each time then I think my stick will last me for ages.
My first experience with the Bobbi Brown cosmetics range was a gift set I received for Christmas in 2010. What I initially liked about the product is the very unusual graphics that are printed on the packaging of their products. If you've read my previous reviews on foundation you'll see that one of my main issues is finding a foundation that stays on all day but, thus far, have been unsuccessful in my quest for a genuinely long-lasting foundation. Given that this is the case when I came across the Bobbi Brown face touch up stick and read the description it was an item, I decided, that I needed in my makeup bag to counter act my patchy, fading foundation come 5pm!
The touch up stick's primary use is to keep your foundation topped up and looking fresh throughout the day without having to completely reapply your foundation. The touch up stick also doubles up as a concealer which can be used to hide blemishes or red patches on the skin.
Unlike the other Bobbi Brown products that I have seen the packaging is somewhat underwhelming. It comes in a lipstick type tube which you rotate to reveal the touch up stick; the only difference is it is taller and thinner than a lipstick holder. The touch up stick is patent black with white, simple writing which simply says 'Bobbi Brown' on it. The lid is also patent black and clicks shut stopping any product from leaking out into your cosmetics bag.
After trying the testers that were on the shelves I decided on the 'honey' shade which is one shade lighter than my natural skin tone. I chose this shade because I usually wear sunless tanner and/or bronzing powder on my face as my natural skin tone isn't exposed.
The stick itself is quite thin but sturdy meaning there is no breakage when you are applying the product. The stick is very creamy and rich and it blends in perfectly with my foundation. I have used the product for touching up my foundation and as a concealer and been completely satisfied with the results.
Applying the product is very easy; it is applied like a regular concealer. I usually dab 3-4 spots on my forehead, 2 on my nose and 3 on either cheek and blend in either with my fingers or a makeup brush. I find that if you blend the product outwards then you get a really even, natural finish.
I purchased this product from John Lewis, I didn't intend on purchasing this product and was actually looking for home ware for my flat but as I said, my need for a product like this was great so when I saw it I had to have it. I paid £18 for this product but I can't help thinking the 'foundation touch up' description is pretentious. I do like the results I obtain from using this product but I think a reasonably priced MAC or Rimmel concealer would do the trick just the same so this is what I intend to do in the future as I definitely can't justify spending £18 on a small concealer stick every 6 months!
Would I recommend this product? Yes, if you can afford it then definitely. As I've said they deliver very desirable results and Bobbi Brown is an ever growing, reputable company so if you can foot the price tag this is a great addition to any make up bag.
Having tried and tested many concealers I can safely say this is the best all round concealer for using on the go.
I was matched to my closest colour by a local Bobbi Brown consultant at John Lewis and their range of colours made it suitable for me and my fair complexion. I often find some concealers can come up to dark and not be flattering to fair skin.
The concealer has a great consistency and is not as light as Touche Eclat making it better for blemishes and spots but is also light enough that it doesn't sit too heavily and doesn't effect the lay of the foundation. The coverage is also long lasting and you do not need to reapply as regularly as you would with a cheaper alternative.
It's light and compact design makes it the perfect choice for your handbag wherever you go. The only drawback is that its slimline design means it runs out more quickly than you'd like and it is more pricey than your average concealer. Still - not enough of a negative to stop me!!
Having done a review on what's in my handbag, one of my magic fixes in my bag at the moment is the Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick. I bought mine from the Bobbi Brown counter in John Lewis after a colour consultation so that I got the best colour for my complexion as well as a nice free makeover.
I have bought concealers before from high end brands as well as high street and I always found them either dry or with too much of a pink base tone in them which doesn't sit well with my colouring and sticks out like a sore thumb on my pale skin!! I went to this counter specifically because i had heard that the base tones were more of a yellow than a pink and once I tried the colour on my skin, it matched perfectly.
The concealer comes in a lovely black metal tube with white text on which is the ideal size for your handbag, and the tube also comes in a little black cardboard box. You get 2.3g of concealer in the tube which isn't a lot for the £16.64 price tag but I use mine with a hard bristle eye shadow brush which means I'm not over applying or losing some of this on my fingertips and I can make a little go a very long way.
It is a lovely creamy formula which doesn't dry out around your spots or blemishes and blends in beautifully with your natural skin tone, sometimes I just use this around my nose and under my eyes without having to wear any foundation as it has really good coverage and lasts me pretty much all day unless it's been particularly warm.
It doesn't have a particular fragrance to it so I can use it around my eyes with no problems and it comes in 17 shades which will suit almost all skin tones and are so popular that they regularly sell out on their on-line shop.
I know i'm an awkward colour as I'm so pale and i'm prone to breakouts here and there which seem to last forever and are doubly noticeable on such pale skin. This has become my saviour to help cover up all those little red blotches and occasional spots as well as covering any patches of uneven skin tone i'm left with after a bad breakout.
Now I know that the price tag is somewhat extortionate for what looks like a teeny tiny tube of concealer but when I think of the many £4.00 odd high street brands I've tried in the past, if I had tried this one first I would have saved myself a lot of cash in the long run.
This is definitely going to be a regular buy for me, it covers a multitude of sins on your skin and helps me feel just that little bit better on bad skin days...and who can put a price on that!!
