Advantages: Precision, ease of use.
Disadvantages: Sometimes streaky
*Introduction*
In the past I have used Mac Fluidline Gel Liner which I absolutely love and recently decided that I wanted a gel liner in purple as this colour is very popular this season. However, instead of sticking with Mac, I decided to try the Bobbi Brown version as I had heard good things about their equivalent.
*About the Product*
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner claims to be an innovative eyeliner that offers the precision of a liquid liner but the ease of a gel-based formula. Bobbi Brown states that it is a long-wearing, water-resistant colour that can be used in order to create subtle to dramatic looks.
*Application*
The application of the gel eyeliner is easier than you could ever imagine. What you need to ensure before you start is that you have a fine eyeliner brush or you will get absolutely nowhere. Once you have one of these, you dip the end of this brush into the gel pot getting a small amount on the tip. Only a little quantity is necessary as the gel goes a very long way. Personally, I apply this after I have put on my eye shadow but I am sure this is purely my personal preference. Numerous different looks can be created depending on the way in which you put this eyeliner on from a flick to being smudged. My advice is to try different ways and find one you like best. The only thing that I do suggest when applying this is that as soon as you have the gel on your brush, apply it fairly quickly as the gel dries fairly quickly and you won't be apply to apply the eyeliner (at least not particularly easily).
*Availability and Price*
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner is available to buy for £13.70 from department stores such as John Lewis, Selfridges and House of Fraser if they have the Bobbi Brown boutique which not all of them have. Alternatively you can buy it online from www.bobbibrown.co.uk.
Like I said with my review of the Mac Fluidline Gel Liner, you will also need to consider the fact that you will need to purchase a brush to apply this with. I didn't need to buy Bobbi Brown's specific brush as I have a MAC one of my own and I am pleased about this as I have used my mum's in the past and find it to be way too thick for my liking.I do agree with the many of you that are shaking your heads thinking 'how much?' that this is expensive for such a small pot of cosmetics but believe me, this stuff really does last a long, long time.
*My Opinion*
The Packaging: This gel liner comes is in a small, translucent glass pot that has a hard, black plastic lid. In this pot you will get 3g of gel. Like the Mac version, they are compact and small so fit perfectly into your make-up bag, although not so much when it is as bulging as mine currently is.
Texture and colour: The texture of the gel is extremely smooth which allows for easy application. This is definitely a positive from my point of view and leads to a good experience of the product. As for the colour, it is brilliant. The colour, when applied, is bold and prominent without being overpowering.
Range of colours: This range started out being fairly limited with only a few colours available to buy. This is not the case anymore as there are 15 colours are available to buy in this range. You can get colours from black to green, grey to purple.
Longevity of the product: This pot lasts forever. Seriously, it lasts for all of eternity. I would say that it will last well over a year which is fantastic.
Staying power: Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner is extremely long-lasting. I think is so amazing that once it has been applied, it lasts all day, even if you have oily eyelids like myself. In fact, from the minute that you have applied it, the eyeliner will not move.
Is it an innovative eyeliner that offers the precision of a liquid liner but the ease of a gel-based formula? It most certainly is. I had got the technique of applying the gel liner sussed before I had even bought this product but this product is very easy to use, with outstanding results.
Is it a long-wearing, water-resistant colour that can be used in order to create subtle to dramatic looks? With regards to whether or not this eyeliner is long-lasting the answer is a resounding yes. Water-resistant colour? To be honest I'm not really sure exactly what this means but it stays on if you cry! As to the last part of the question, yes, you can create subtle to dramatic looks with just this product. What I like about this gel eyeliner is that you are responsible for how thick or fine you want the line to be. This enables you to create numerous different looks with a single product. A thin line creates a subtle look that is good to wear on a daily basis whereas I opt for a thicker and bolder line when going out. This gives me a more dramatic look instantly. Perfect!
Was there anything I didn't like about this product? Not really, but I have to admit that unlike the MAC equivalent this gel eyeliner can appear streaky if not applied properly. Whether this is to do with me not applying the gel before it has started to dry out, I don't know but it is something that their rivals have over them.
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
Yes. There is no question about it. I really like this product and would suggest it to anyone. It is superb value for money and the effect that it creates it fantastic. I would highly recommend this product to anybody that doesn't get on with using liquid or pencil eyeliners. You'll be delighted with the outcome.
*Overall*
I was slightly worried after I bought this product that I had made a mistake by not sticking with Mac Fluidline Gel Liner but I had absolutely no reason to be. I was extremely pleased with the purchase that I had made and decision to try another brand. This gel eyeliner did not disappoint at all but I will now have the problem of deciding which brand to go for in the future when my pots eventually run out. Never again will I go back to lining my eyes with a pencil. Those days are a thing of the past for sure.
Summary: A fabulous gel liner with the precision of a liquid one
