Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
Advantages: Really does last. Water resistant. Great range of colours to choose from.
Disadvantages: A little bit costly and you will require a brush and makeup remover to use.
When I first started looking for an upper lid liner (as opposed to a waterline only) I quickly realised that either the pencil liners I had were rubbish, or (as it turned out) my level of skill was not high enough to apply a decent eye liner using this method. Hence the trails of countless liquid liners...
Now the issue I had with these are that they don't dry quickly enough and I find that they tend to smudge. So. To recap, I can't get a pencil to show or go straight and a liquid smudges and doesn't dry. There must be something in between eh? Well. There is, and the wonderful lady at the Bobbi Brown counter proved her point to me. Cue - The purchase of the gel liner.
The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner itself comes in a small glass container with a little screw top plastic lid, weighing in at actual product amount of 3g. Whilst this sounds like not a lot, for the product you get and how much you actually use for each application it lasts well.
And on that note can I just point out that not only does the product not seem to run out. Ever. But when they call this a long-wear eyeliner they were not joking. I like to test my products fully when I get them to make sure I know how they work before I review them, and this more than passed. I applied my liner (all be it over a primer) first thing in the morning (and it was a 6am start that day) and tested it through work, gym and an evening out, I then (and I know, but don't judge my "purely testing and not too tired" methods only....) left it on and, curse me, slept with it on all night. I'll be honest, whilst I did have a slight panda eye the next morning, it was minimal and, all in all the eye liner was still in place.
For me using the product is a lot easier than most but let me point out know you do require a brush to apply this, I personally use and angled brush and find this works best for applying the product smoothly and accurately. It goes on well and it dries quickly, and as I mentioned above that is pretty much it once it is on. The lovely lady on the counter advised it is best to work as quickly as you can as once it is on it doesn't smudge... Also now might be the point at which to mention this is a water resistant product so you should be fine for a little splash back but you will need a proper eye makeup remover to take it off. But I suppose I can't have both - A long lasting, non smudging and "easy to remove with water" product...
For those of you who are wondering I wear shade 27 which is "Caviar Ink" and this, I find, is the darkest and most "black" shade, searching the website it seems this does come in several shades (13 if I remember correctly) so you are best to go to the counter and check out what works best for your skin tone/preferences if you can.
The product is expensive, when I brought mine it cost a pretty penny at £16.50 which, while for high end makeup is not expensive, for an eye liner in comparison with high street buys it is a little costly. However, that being said, it does last well and you don't use a lot of product for each application.
Would I recommend this? Very much so. Will I re-purchase again? Yes. In love with this product and most definitely recommending you to all try it - Just remember to make sure you have makeup remover and a brush to hand.
Summary: A great all around product that works so well for all skin types and stands the test of time!
