Bobbi Brown's cream shadows are award winning and a firm favourite of mine. I didn't think I could get much fonder of the product until they released the Metallic Long Wear Cream Shadow which I became instantly desperate to try. This collection offers a new selection of shades that come packed full of shimmers and sparkles. As I love all things glittery, I didn't waste much time before purchasing my first pot.
What does the product do?
The product is a cream eye shadow which appears heavily pigmented from looking at it in the pot and promises to give you an intense splash of colour to your eyelid. This new collection is infused with glitter which should make the end results even more dramatic. The colour promises to be long lasting and to give a smooth and matte finish to the skin, while remaining crease free until you decide to remove it.
There are plenty of lovely shades in the collection to choose from. The two shades that I have bought were Brown Metal which is a sparkling dark brown shade and Gold Stone which is a relatively pale gold shimmering shade. The other available shades include greens, pinks, blues and purples and comes with beautiful names such as Starry Night, Moonstone and Black Pearl.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied in the same way as a normal eye shadow. It can be applied using your fingers but I find that the oils on your skin prevent you from getting an even coverage, plus it can get messy. Using my fingers also gave a sheer coverage rather than the blanket coverage that I wanted. I find that a make up brush works better and I sweep the brush across the product and then onto my eyelid. If I want a more intense look I use a slightly damp brush and apply two layers.
Packaging and Price
The packaging is very luxurious and is probably partly responsible for the high price of the product. It comes in a clear glass tub that has been cut to look like ice. It has a screw top lid that is black and Bobbi Brown is written across the top in white writing. As it's a cream, you'll need to be sure that you ensure that the lid is tightly done up so that the product doesn't dry up.
The product doesn't come cheap, costing you around £16 for one pot but you can imagine how long it will be before you would need to repurchase a pot. It can be bought from plenty of online websites so shop around to find a better deal.
When I watched the video on the Bobbi Brown websites demonstrating how to use the product, I was blown away. The colour was beautiful on the girl and it shimmered like mad. Sadly, these results didn't translate into real life for me. My coverage wasn't very impressive and the shimmer outdid the colour a lot. The colour didn't really have the impact that I thought it would after watching the video.
This product certainly lives up to its name and no one could argue that this product isn't long lasting. When I have got home after a night out, the eye shadow has been just as it was when I left the house. That said, if you forget that you've got it on and rub your eyes, it will smudge and smear a bit. When it's time to remove the product, it comes off easily with my usual cleanser.
The colours have been a bit of a disappointment and I can't get them to look as rich and intense as I thought that I would have been able to. I've tried using a variety of make up applicators but I haven't yet tried the Bobbi Brown brush that is being used in the video so maybe that's where I'm going wrong.
The sparkle is extremely evident in the product but there is more of a beautiful shimmer than a school disco sparkle to it which makes this look more glamorous and classy than cheap and nasty. Because of the shimmer, I would say these shadows are better suited to evening wear. The colours can also be build up for a night out with the girls but not as much as I had hoped. I've now started wearing them over the top of a more pigmented shadow so that I get the pretty shimmer and also so that the expensive shadows won't go to waste.
I wear two colours together, sweeping the brown over the whole eye lid and then using the gold from the inner corner to the middle of my eyelid. Because of the creamy consistency of the product, the colours blend together well. The shadows are easy to work with and it is simple to use.
The texture of the product also means that you won't get any of that annoying fall out that comes with powder shadows landing on the skin beneath your eye. The texture of the cream shadow is lovely and it glides onto the lid without any pulling or dragging.
One thing I always worry about with cream shadows, is the product creasing but thankfully that isn't the case here. The product stays as it should even after an evenings worth of blinking. The only time my shadow got a little bit creased was when I went a bit crazy with the layering because I wanted more colour.
All in all, I am disappointed with the colours of this product and I much prefer the cheaper L'oreal shadows. The shimmer is nice, the product is long lasting and it doesn't crease but the lack of intensity of the colour means that I won't be repurchasing any more pots.
