I have the Pink Quartz shimmer brick.
The formula is nice and smooth, and gives a pretty, smooth glow that isn't too sparkly. The packaging is also gorgeous, sleek and durable.
My only criticism is that when I swipe the whole brick with a blush brush to give a glow to my cheeks, the comination colour that comes out is very cool, with grey undertones. I specifically chose the Pink Quartz as it looked warmer toned, and I was expecting a dusty-rose-bronze, but the resulting colour for me is still very silvery in the light, when worn on my face. On closer examination it looks like all of the shades in the brick are made with a base of silvery/faun.
Unfortuntely this cool tone makes my cheeks look flat and greyish if I apply more than a tiny weeny bit. I have noticed the same with a friend that uses the Bronze shimmer brick - her cheeks look cool brownish grey. It's a pretty, smooth shine but not an ideal colour shade.
Individually, the strips of colour make nice metallic eyeshadows.
I'd be happy to buy this product again if I can find a warmer toned colour that doesn't have undertones of silver. If you are going to buy a shimmer brick, I'd recommend testing it out on your face (rather than hand or wrist) before buying it, and get a good look in the light to check you're happy with the colour it shines.
It''''s very rare I stray from the products and brands I know, however I was looking to buy a multi use bronzer and I had figured that if I buy a cheap one I can''''t expect to be thrilled with the quality so I decided to do some research.
Having looked through the internet and countless reviews on all brands and types of bronzers I decided this is the one I wanted to try. For the price I definitely thought I will first try to find this Bobbi Brown shimmer brick compact online as that''''s usually where you find make up and beauty products for cheaper. I found a shop selling a new one on eBay for around £20 and so I decided to buy.
I was really looking forward to receiving the compact and it came quickly to which I was pleased. The little compact is really cute and the mirror is a nice size. There are 5 different colours in vertical stripes within this compact and I believe it comes in a couple of different colour combinations. I had the one in the picture to which the shades were nice and super shimmery. It''''s a nice idea because you can use the separate colours for different things such as eye shadows, highlighter and bronzer. I liked this compact upon use but for me I think it''''s just too shimmery. For a night out it is ideal but even then on pictures it''''s quite in your face and trying to blend literally gives you a glittery face. After having mine for a couple of months the individual blocks of colours started to fall out! I was so annoyed especially because I had hardly used it, I hadn''''t took it out very much at all and for something this expensive it shouldn''''t be falling apart.
Eventually I ended up throwing the compact away because it was crumbling and breaking everywhere. I don''''t know how the compact was handled before I received it, but it was sent well packaged and seemed fine. I would never buy this product again because it didn''''t work for me, but if your looking for a high shimmer compact then this could be for you.
I was first introduced to Bobbi Brown make-up whilst watching QVC. I purchased a set which included the Shimmer Brick in the shade 'Bronze' This was probably my favourite item in the set and I'd been after one for ages!
Bobbi Brown is available in some department stores, online and occasionally on QVC.
* This shimmering, brush-on powder creates a deep, bronzy glow. Works well with neutral and deep blush shades
* Five bars of luminous colour work as individual eye shadows
I initially wanted this just as a bronzer but love using the colours individually as eyeshadows! Using this as both eyeshadow and bronzer gives a nice end result where all your make-up flows nicely. The texture of the product is smooth and goes onto the skin like silk with a beautiful shimmery end result but I will say you must be careful with shimmer around fine lines and wrinkles, it really doesn't work and for those areas a matte highlighter or bronzer will definately work better.
The colour lasts all day on both the face and eyes. I love the shades and will definately be repurchasing in the shade 'Pink Quartz'
The product is a bestseller from Bobbi Brown and has won the following awards:
* Best Blush Range
* Harper's Bazaar Beauty Hot 100 2012
* Best Bronzer
* SHE Beauty Awards 2011.
HOW TO APPLY:
Sweep the Face Blender Brush through all five shades and dust lightly on cheekbones after Blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones - where light naturally hits the face - for the most flattering look. To add a highlight to eyes, apply the lightest shade in the compact just under browbone with fingertips or the Eye Smudge Brush.
The shimmer brick is available in 6 different shades:
* Pink Quartz
* 24 Karat
The compact is pretty big and made from glossy black plastic, it is pleasing to the eye and has a mirror in the lid which is always useful. However I couldn't help but feel that considering the size of the compact there isn't a great deal of product inside, like round the edge there is a lot of wasted space. I'd rather have more product than all that plastic.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
The compact costs £32.00 which is pretty pricey and considering the amount of product I feel it is a bit overpriced but I do love the versatility and quality of the make-up. I probably would get another and try a different shade next time.
I'm a huge fan of Bobbi Brown products and was especially pleased to receive a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick along with a couple of other Bobbi Brown Products for Christmas. I have an exceptionally pale and rather freckled skin tone, and often find that other shimmer and brozing bricks are just too heavy for my skin tone.
I applied the shimmer brick with one of my Bobbi Brown brushes, running the head of the brush over the entire brick, rather than just focusing on one section, and applied in sweeping downwards strokes from the temple area to the fullest part of my cheek, as well as across and down my T-Zone. I was pleased with the shimmer effect immediately. The colour didnt go on too darkly / heavily, allowing me to work up coverage (which didnt take long for my light skin tone) I then highlighted my cheek bones with the lighter shades from the pallette on the brick.
I wore the makeup on a shift to work, and was complimented for my healthy glow, which lasted all shift ( I work in a rather warm contact centre, so a lot of my make up slides right off by the afternoon!) The shimmer definately highlighted my cheekbones (killer cheekbone effect!) and made my face look slimmer, which was a bonus!
The packaging, as with all Bobbi Brown products, is sleek and stylish, with a handy mirror in the lid, makes it great for carrying around in your handbag. I would recommend this product if you have a little extra to spend on your makeup, as it does RRP at £40 upwards, however as with my other Bobbi Brown products I am sure it will last me a long time - and I think it is worth the money for the effect it has on your face. Works well as an every day product as well as on a glam night out!
The Bronze Shimmer Brick is a bronzing product which has been created by the cosmetics brand Bobbi Brown, that promises add a sun kissed glow to wherever it is applied. What makes this award winning product stand out from other bronzing product is that, instead of being a solid block of colour, the bronzer comes with five strips of differing colours.
The variety of colours ensures that you get a natural and radiant glow that make you look radiant and healthy. In addition to this, the individual colours can be used as separate eyeshadows so it's almost like getting five free eyeshadows with your bronzer!
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to the face using a bronzing brush. After sweeping the brush across all of the colours, the powder can be brushed onto the face onto any areas which would be naturally touched by the sun. This includes the nose, cheekbones and I also use mine on my collar bone.
The lightest shade acts as a highlighter so sometimes I will use my fingers to apply this particular shade to my brow bones and cheekbones to illuminate them and add definition. If using the colours as eyeshadows, I use an eye shadow sponge brush for application. I tend to use the lightest one on the brow bone and inner corner, the middle chocolate shade for the eyelid and the darkest one at the outer corner working up towards the socket. If you use a wet sponge, the colour comes out deeper.
Packaging and Price
The shimmer brick comes enclosed within a sturdy black compact which keeps the product completely protected, even when it is being knocked about in my bag. On the front of the compact, Bobbi Brown is written in white letters. When you click open the lid, you see the horizontal strips of colour. There is a white highlighter, a light and a dark pink to add a touch of blush and a light brown and dark brown to add a touch of bronze.
This product certainly does not come cheap and will cost you around £30 for the compact. Although this is expensive, the product will last well over a year even when used daily and the bronzer does technically also contain a highlighter and five eyeshadows as well. The product is available on a variety of websites, including Bobbi Browns, so if you shop around, you might find it for slightly cheaper.
This is a fairly fun product that may be too shimmery for some. If you prefer a matt coverage then this product won't really be for you but the name of the product makes that obvious. For the shimmer-aholics out there, this will be right up your street.
The consistency of the powder is very soft and it's quite loose in the compact. If you press too hard on the powders with your brush or your fingers, too much of the product will come off so go easy with the pressure. If I pick up too much, I will blow the brush to get rid of the excess colour, but obviously this is wasting an expensive product so it's always best to be gentle in the first place.
The colours looks lovely as eyeshadows and the highlighter works well. The colour of the bronzer is not too dark on my pale skin and can be built up to give a deeper colour which I sometimes do for the evening. I tend not to wear this shadow when I go to work as it's too shimmery for this purpose but I will use it in the day time if I am with friends and family.
It looks lovely on nights out and makes your skin look lovely, especially on photographs. The product has good staying power and reapplication is unnecessary unless you want to deepen the colour for a night time look. The product looks great on bare skin or on top of make up and has never caused spots or irritation on my sensitive skin.
If you really like the idea of this product but find that the colours aren't for you, then they are four others styles that you could choose. The Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick contains warm and cool shades of pink mixed with bronze while the Nectar Shimmer Brick contains coral shades. The Rose Shimmer Brick has more intense shades of pink and the overall effect is that of a blusher while the Beige Shimmer brick is similar to the Bronze Shimmer Brick which I own, except the shades are not as deep.
All in all, this is a lovely product that can be used for a variety of purposes. There are enough shades available to suit everyone and the colour of the product can be built up in order to achieve different looks. It may be too shimmery for some but I love all that glitters so it's perfect for me. I'm knocking one star off for the price. Other than that, I love it!
I am mainly referring to 'Rose' Shimmer Brick in this review!
I just love this Shimmer Brick; it's the perfect blush to give you a bit of a rosy glow with just a touch of shimmer. Application is SO easy, the product is very blendable and you can easily build up a stronger colour, or leave yourself with just a hint of it which is another reason I love this so much. I think the fact that it's not overly pigmented works in the products favour as I do find that blushers can sometimes be overpowering and too easy to overdo on application.
The shimmer is not at all glittery, so you're not going to look like you've let a herd of children loose with several tubes of glitter (does glitter still come in tubes?) as you were applying your makeup. I find it gives quite a dewy finish that flatters the face and can be used to highlight the cheekbones perfectly. I think that the dewy look actually helps to make the skin look healthier, which is a great thing if you're feeling like your skin is a bit dull that day, or maybe you were drinking the night before and your skin has been paying the price.
As Shimmer Bricks come with a range of shades within the compact, you will find that you can customise the colour you get *very* slightly, by using certain areas of it more than others. You can also use the very lightest shades to highlight under your brows, around your décolletage or on any other areas you would normally use highlighter and because the powder appears to be very fine, it's not going to look stupid or too heavy. I have this in gold (I believe this is no longer available) also and like to use it on my eyes sometimes too which demonstrates its fantastic versatility.
I understand that shimmer is not something that can be worn on any occasion you could think of, but I do think that because this is so subtle that you'd be able to get away with it for more than you'd expect. Even with a lot of usage, my compact is still going strong so this is a product that will last for ages -just make sure you keep your brushes clean as you don't want to transfer lots of bacteria to the product whilst using it.
The product comes in a classy black compact that keeps the powder safe in any handbag whilst still being easy to open when needed. The mirror inside is a great size and very useful.
Other colours that are available are: Beach (similar to bronze but a bit lighter available in USA or on eBay), Pink Ribbon (limited edition for cancer awareness month), Beige, Bronze, Nectar (which is a peachy colour), Pink Quartz, Rose and one for the body that is limited edition (USA/eBay) and they retail at £29.50 but can sometimes be bought cheaper if you shop around.
I love love LOVE this product! I was lucky enough to be brought a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in beige for my birthday and having already managed to use up one entire shade will be buying another one soon. It's a bit pricey but has so far lasted me over 6 months - before the aforementioned using up of one shade dilemma occurred - and that's from using it almost everyday. It can also be used as a bronzer using a swirl of all the colours together, although I tend to prefer a pinker bronzer so haven't used it for this. I have however used the white shade as a highlighter under my brows and on my cheekbones which worked a treat. This is one of those elusive products that I was constantly on the look out for - you know the kind that give shimmer without being too overtly glittery and has the ability to look natural enough to have people asking you if you've been on holiday - or in my case if my son had started sleeping through the night! I previously spent well over the cost of this product on millions of cheaper versions which spend their lives knocking around the bottom of my make up bag until I have a clear out and chuck them away so I've learnt my lesson and from now on will just buy this.
Bobbi Brown is well renowned for her makeup range. I am someone that rarely wears makeup and when I do it is only for special occasions. I am also not that great at applying my own makeup so needed something that would be easy to apply and preferably have more than one purpose. This is because I did not want to have to purchase one of every type of item, such as blusher, eyeshadow etc.
I first noticed this product whilst on an aeroplane going on holiday - browsing through the onboard duty free magazine. It looked appealing in that it has five shades in a compact case with a mirror and I read that it can have multiple uses. As it was a lot cheaper duty free, I could not resist this purchase and bought the Beige range which has a white block, light gold, dark gold, light brown and a dark brown. All of these have a sparkle effect to them and are pressed powder so you will not spill any of it.
I have not regretted this purchase one bit. I use it as an all over shimmer - by sweeping my brush over all the blocks of colour. To highlight certain areas of my face e.g. tops of eyelids, I select the lighter shades from the shimmer block. Then I use the darker shades for eye shadow and then with a blusher brush I then sweep over a few of the darker ones to use for my cheeks.
I have found that you can easily blend it into whichever shade you want - whether you want a subtle or a more dramatic effect. I love the sparkly natural glow that it gives me and it makes my complexion look like I have just returned from holiday.
It really is something that I would continue to buy when this runs out or loses it's life - whichever comes first as I do not use it often. What I really like about this product is that if I am in a rush I can do my makeup with speed. Also if I am limited on space, I do not need a makeup bag and will just need this product and some lipstick - maybe some mascara to finish off!
Bobbi Brown is a female make up artist who has her own range of cosmetics by the same name, Bobbi Brown. According to an article I read, her products are sold in over 400 stores and twenty countries worldwide. I am a big fan of her make up line. It's a bit more expensive than some lines out there but I think she offers a superior product I think she has a range that has lots of natural colours and tools to enable a woman to look fabulous.
My first impression of this Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact was WOW. On the outside the packaging is neat, stylish and all so sophisticated and when you open up the shiny black box this product and slide the small but not so tiny brick compact out of it's protective cardboard cover you are equally as impressed. The Bobbi Brown Brick compact all come with a mirror attached to the underside of the lid which, in my opinion is very handy for all those minor check ups us women have to do during the day, however, be warned, this mirror can get quite dusty after a few uses of the pressed powder so always carry some tissue to give it a quick wipe over with.
The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact is set out in layers of colour depth starting at the bottom with the darkest colour and moving up in colour to the lightest at the top which unlocks a lot of use. As the layers of colour are set out like this you can either brush over all the colours using a large/medium blusher brush being careful not to add too much dark (or not enough) or you can use a smaller blusher contouring brush and pinpoint one colour strip at a time, this allows you to contour or highlight where necessary and is also a brilliant tool for when you have added just that bit too much. The Compact can also be used on the eyelids as a eye-shadow.
This product glides over skin on application and does not clump or stick. As this product has got an element of shimmer in you can achieve and glowing look without being too shiny or glittery.
I really like this product and while it is not an everyday essential it really adds to a glam look and is a great present to receive. A welcome addition to my make up bag!
This product is fantastic! I was lucky enough to get this as a Christmas present and boy I'm grateful. Because of the very expensive price I would never have bought this myself but when it runs out I'll just have to shell out for it. I've had it since Christmas 2009 and it seems to be never ending. I use it most days, just a touch for work and a little more for a night out. It's excellent it just gives you a little lift in colour but it doesn't clump or make you look like you haven't washed. You really get what you pay for and I particularly like it being as a brick rather than pearls. It blends well but you do need a big ish brush to sweep it on with. I like this fact that even though I sweep my brush over all the brick to get them all on it they haven't run and got mixed in with each other in the pallet which means that you can go on and use each colour as an eye shadow. The lady on the Bobbi Brown counter told me that you can mix it with water and use it as a lip colour but I haven't tried this. I Hope that you pick this because you won't be disappointed!
The shimmer bricks come in different colours - bronze, beige, pink, apricot/nectar and rose.
The one i will be reviewing is the beige one.
This product contains five shades of brown and neutral colours. To apply i sweep a brush over all the colours and apply to the top of my cheekbones.
I apply the product with my Bobbi Brown face blender brush which is great as it picks up just the right amount, but i think a normal powder/bronzer brush would be acceptable to use.
The result is that it gives me a lovely, subtle glow and lifts my complexion to make my skin look radiant. It really warms up my complexion and highlights my cheekbones making them look more defined.
The shimmer bricks can be applied on their own or over your usual blusher. The beige shimmerbrick works well with pink and peach blushers.
It isn't glittery but is quite shimmery which means if you have large pores it can make them look worse.
The colours can also be used individually on your eyes. I use the light brown on my eyelid, the dark brown on the outer corner to create a smoky look and the white colour under my brow bone to highlight my eyes.
At £30.50 it is very expensive but i have had mine over two years and it is still going strong. It is such a great product that i think it is well worth the price.
I have owned 2 of these now and absolutely love them (Both in the 'apricot' shade). They are pricey at around £28 but I've had my current one for around two years now. Admittedly, I do not use it everyday as sometimes over highlighted cheeks can be a bit much for general work etc but if I feel I am looking a bit tired then this is ideal. It is also perfect for nights out to give yourself a glowy look. Use it just over foundation or on top of blusher.
How I apply it- I use a big brush to pick up the highlighter then blow the excess off. I then swirl it on each cheek but brushing in an upwards motion up and out towards the temples. For contouring, put a darker blush colour in the hollows of your cheeks then top the cheekbones with this highlighter to give your cheeks a more sculpted look.
I also sweep a tiny bit over my forehead and temples and you can use it on your nose if you have a broad nose and want to slim it down.
You can use the various shades in the compact as eyeshadows and I use the lightest one as an inner eye corner highlighter. It is also great on the browbone. Or even your shoulders!!
Absoloutely love this compact. Whichever variation you purchase this in, you will find that there are multiple uses for it and its not just for the cheeks! I have used it as a cheek colour, eyeshadow and eyebrow highlight colour so although it may seem expensive, it's fantastic for the usage you get out of it- I have been using mine almost everyday for six months and there's still plenty left.
This compact delivers shimmer, not glitter which is brilliant as a little goes a long way but also you can really build up the amount of product (I like to go lighter in the day but more full on at night). The compact itself looks classy in any handbag and there's no danger of fallout with this as the compact closes tight so its perfect for toting around with you.
I love this because of the sheer but concentrated formula, meaning that it doesn't look or feel cakey or heavy and provides a lovely luminous healthy finish.
Bobbi Brown is a female make up artist who has her own range of cosmetics by the same name, Bobbi Brown. According to an article I read, her products are sold in over 400 stores and twenty countries worldwide. I am a big fan of her make up line. It's a bit more expensive than some lines out there but I think she offers a superior product I think she has a range that has lots of natural colours and tools to enable a woman to look fabulous without looking over the top or trying too hard. In fact, a lot of her product lines have very natural colours such as a lot of browns, golds and nudes that I think flatter most face types.
One of my favourite products she sells is her Shimmer Brick Compact. I would describe it as a pressed powder but one that has some sparkle it in. Also, instead of just being one colour like a powder the brick features five different little panels all in a slight different shade to the one before so that when you apply it to your skin it gives the illusion of depth and differing coverage. For example, I have the beige variety and there is an almost white panel, a light brown, dark brown, light gold and dark gold. Bobbi Brown says about these compacts that, "swept over cheeks or dabbed on lids, nothing lights up your face like shimmer."
I definitely agree. The shimmer brick is easy to use. I use a big brush and dust it over all the panels. Then I tend to just apply it like a powder and sweep it all over my face. It definitely gives my face some colour and makes it look quite bronze and it really glows too which is lovely. It has a lovely sparkly finish and I find that it really lasts for a long time.
The product, as the name suggests comes in a square compact. It has a flip up lid and on the inside of the compact there is a mirror to allow you to see when you are applying this makeup. I think a lot of Bobbi Browns success is in her packaging also. Her products are black with Bobbi Brown written on the front in bold white letters. It's simple but striking and effective. It looks expensive and gives the image of being a good quality product which it is.
The compacts come in a variety of different shades for different face types and the look that you are trying to achieve. For example the nectar shade works well with neutral and peach blush shades as opposed to the bronze shade which works well with neutral and deep blush shades. Other colours include pink quartz, beige, rose and pink. The compact contains 4 oz and costs £29.50.
My friend went on holiday and this was her coming back present for me. What can i say this is like gold dust.
I have this in cream, beige's and golds and this is not only for use in eyes. I have used this product before as an eye shadow and it applies and lasts perfectly there is no creasing to be seen like you do with your cheaper brands.
Also I have tried a few different face illuminates but i have not yet experienced anything like this to give you a dewy glow to your skin.
This is a little more costly than cheaper brand that are available but worth every penny for the end result that this gives. The best thing about this is that it very much double up. It can be used as just an eye shadow and the finished result on this is that your eyes are left wit a smoky look but they are definitely more wider.
I personally tend to use this as a finisher after I have applied my foundation just to give my complexion the desired glow.
Another great benefit of this product that it never seems to wear down. I have had this for roughly 8 months and it is used every day and i still have loads left.
i think that this is a definite must have for any girl.
