Bonne Bell Coca Cola Lip Smackers Lipbalms
Advantages: Works well - Pleasant scent - Easy to use..
Disadvantages: None for me.
I believe that there is a small range of flavoured "Lip Smackers" lip balms available to purchase from the "Bonne Bell" brand, and stockists have included Primark as well as some branches of Claire's Accessories in the past. I have also seen the flavoured lip balms available to purchase online, from websites such as eBay for around £3 plus postage costs, which seems like reasonable value to me.
The "Coca-Cola Lip Smacker" balm is certainly very eye-catching, thanks to its bright red tube and brightly-coloured label that has an attractive 'foil' look to its design. The well-known Coca-Cola logo appears on this label, in its usual design and style so there is really no doubt about the branding of this particular lip balm. I think the product looks really bright and funky overall, without it feeling as though it is cheap or tacky in any way.
The size and style of the Coca-Cola Lip Smacker balm is in keeping with most other lip balm products that I use regularly, comprising of a small 'tube' that is similar in size and design to your average lipstick. You simply need to remove the plastic lid on top of the tube to reveal the 'stick' of lip balm underneath. There is nothing 'gimmicky' about this aspect of the product, and I have never encountered any issues with using the product's packaging, even though I suffer with limited mobility and weakness in my hands. I find it easy enough to remove and replace the plastic lid when I want to, and without any help.
Located at the bottom of the tube is a small 'wheel' that is incorporated into the base of the plastic tube and this simply needs to be turned to allow the 'stick' lip balm contained within the tube to be exposed. Turning the wheel in the opposite direction will, of course, replace the stick of lip balm within its plastic tube once more. Again, this has proven to be easy to use and without any fuss or difficulty from me.
The Coca-Cola Lip Smacker balm itself is a deep brown colour, in keeping with the Coca-Cola theme and branding. This is, admittedly, not the most attractive (or feminine!) colour of lip balm that I own, but I do think it is perfectly suited to the overall branding and image of the product. I find that even as I raise the Lip Smacker balm up to my face to slick it over my lips, I am able to detect the sweet smell of Coca-Cola and this is extremely pleasant - surprisingly so, given its sweetness that feels very slightly sugary in its aroma.
The balm is very easy to apply and I find its consistency is thin enough to 'spread' over the lip's surface very easily, and with minimal effort as you would hope with a product like this one. I find the consistency is absolutely spot on, with the lip balm being without the horrible, slightly 'greasy' feeling that a lot of lip balm products seem to contain nowadays. I can't confess to finding such products particularly appealing or pleasant to wear, so I was pleased to find that the Lip Smackers product felt surprisingly light, in comparison.
I was further surprised to note that the dark brown colour of the lip balm does not transfer to my lips, as this had been something that had concerned me prior to trying the balm out! I had been slightly concerned about having dark brown lips after application but thankfully this has not been the case at all. Instead, my lips are slightly shiny and with a delicate sheen to them that looks surprisingly natural, given the concept of this particular balm. There is really nothing about the finished end result that would indicate what colour of lip balm had been applied, in my opinion.
I do find that the Coca-Cola Lip Smackers balm works quite well at moisturising my lips. I find that my lips will dry out easily as a result of harsh weather and warm central heating they are exposed to, and these issues are of course more of a problem during the cold winter months. As a result, I will try and apply a lip balm product to my dry, chapped lips at least once a day during the winter months and my product of choice recently has been the Lip Smackers balm. I do find that the balm works quite well at keeping my lips soft and smooth, without leaving behind any rough patches or unsightly dry skin on the lips' surface. I didn't expect the product to perform as well as it has in this regard, assuming that it was more of a novelty item than a genuine cosmetic as such, but it seems I was wrong to make this assumption if my softened, moisturised lips are anything to go by.
The main novelty of the Lip Smackers Coca-Cola balm is of course its Coca-Cola flavouring. I'm not sure whether to refer to this as a fragrance or a flavour, as they seem to become the same thing after the balm has first been applied. The scent is predominantly that of Coca-Cola which is very pleasant when the balm is first applied to the lips, and I do find myself licking my lips from time to time subconsciously, as the flavour feels so pleasant. The taste of the lip balm is not as pleasant, unfortunately, and I find this to be more of a 'generic' lip balm flavour with a faint 'hint' of the Coca-Cola taste sitting in the backdrop, teasing me slightly. These are observations rather than being criticisms however, and I do find I am able to detect a faint 'whiff' of the Coca-Cola scent whilst the lip balm is being worn. This is pleasant enough and I haven't noticed it becoming sickly or feeling 'heady' during use, which is an indication to me that the product is actually that of a reasonable quality rather than being something quite cheap.
As with most lip balm products that I use on a regular basis, I find that the Coca-Cola Lip Smackers balm will 'lift' from the lips' surface very easily, and especially if drinking or eating whilst it is being worn. I find there is no need to remove it at the end of the day along with my make-up as it is always long gone by then. This is something that I find is usually the case with most lip balm products in my experience, and so I find it necessary to reapply these products throughout the course of the day if my lips are particularly dehydrated or chapped.
The Lip Smackers balms contain no SPF protection which would have been an added bonus as far as I am concerned, but this omission would not put me off from repurchasing the Coca-Cola lip balm in the future.
In summary, I would recommend giving the Coca-Cola Lip Smackers Lip Balm a try out. I initially thought the product was purely a novelty item but it has surpassed my expectations, providing smooth, moisturised lips each and every time it has been used. I find the scent of the balm is surprisingly agreeable and I would definitely purchase the product for myself again in the future. For the reasons outlined in this review, I feel the Coca-Cola balm is deserving of full marks in the Dooyoo product rating score.
Summary: A novelty-themed lip balm product that works very well..
