17 Clear Definition Mascara
Advantages: long lasting, works well, holds brows, cheap
Disadvantages: does nothing for my lashes
This was a recent impulse buy for me while I was looking at make up in a store recently. I have never actually used a clear mascara before but I do like to use coloured powder on my brows and often use a brow mascara to hold them in place. I don't really like the way coloured eyebrow gels can look so I thought this might be a good alternative. I have also read that people use it as an alternative to mascara and in combination with eyelash tinting which I thought might be an interesting idea for holidays.
The mascara comes in a clear plastic tube which a black plastic lid. The tube has writing on the outside in black which has the brand, product name and on the reverse is some information about the product. The tube works as it should, much like a mascara tube. From the inside out comes a white plastic stick with a white bristle brush on the end. The brush is cylindrical in shape with bristles evenly spaced apart. One edge of the brush is raised slightly to give an elongated square part for extra reach on lashes and brows. The design is functional and practical but not exactly stylish or exciting - though for the price it isn't likely to be.
The formula itself is like a clear gel. The brush comes out of the tube looking totally empty, but it wet to touch so obviously is coated in the gel. It goes on easily to both brows and lashes. I used it on top of my brow colour (HD brow palette) to give a little extra hold. For this purpose I think the mascara is really good, it holds my brows for the entire day and also fixes the colour in place which is really handy. It is really easy to apply, feels light and takes only a minute or so to dry. My only real issue is that it obviously picks up the colour of the brow powder and also my face powder and this has turned the gel a peachy colour inside the tube. This isn't really an issue for me as it doesn't stop me using it the way I want to - although it does ever so slightly effect the colour on your lashes. I used this mascara on my lashes and found it had absolutely no effect at all. It did separate them and give a little length so it probably would be a nice alternative to mascara. But I like wearing mascara and once it has been applied over the top of the gel it really made no difference.
In terms of price this is a pretty cheap product from what is known as a pretty cheap brand. It cost me roughly £4.00 but having used it for a few weeks (every day) there has been little dent in the contents. I can see this lasting beyond a year without having to re-purchase which is ridiculously cheap. I have used alternatives from more expensive brands and they didn't last nearly as long so this definitely offers value for money.
Summary: A good clear mascara which will last you ages.
