17 Fast Finish Nail Varnish
Advantages: Good colour and shine.
Disadvantages: Takes longer than claimed to dry and needs two coats for the best results
- Price & Colour Range -
Currently priced at a lowly £2.99 per 8ml standard bottle of varnish although it's worth looking out for 3 for 2 offers which Boots regularly have which is when I bought mine.
19 shades available in a range of colours: pink, yellow, grey, raspberry , red, purple, blue etc. For ideas of the colours on offer in this range visit the Boots website although it has to be said that the colour of my choice, 'Gemstone' is much darker than is shown on the colour swatch.
- What is it? -
The back of the bottle boasts that this varnish gives high shine colour with just one coat and dries in 60 seconds.
- My Experience -
The brush is quite thick and the arm attaching it to the handle of the bottle top is short but just the right length to fit to the bottom of the bottle as quite a few I have used, the brush the 'arm' is too short for the depth of the bottle and therefore not all of the varnish is 'picked' up, leaving quite a lot of waste.
The size and shape of the brush makes for easy application and even I don't get too many flaws when using my left hand. I do however have to say that I wasn't happy with the depth and richness of the colour after just one application and it certainly takes longer than the 60 seconds to dry. I therefore apply a second coat which gives a lovely shine and darkens the shade but the downside is that the whole process can take up to half an hour ensuring that the first coat is fully dry before applying the second, the latter of which does take up to 20 minutes to dry. That said, even though I patiently sit and wait, it has smudged or come away in parts if I have tried to do things like undo a button and it has caught on the varnish.
Once on and FULLY dried, the varnish does last some time. The first signs of it wearing off are on the very tips of my nails but I tend to rectify this with gentle little touch ups on these areas rather than going through the whole process as I am not the most patient of folk when it comes to pampering. The varnish blends in well and doesn't show obvious signs that I have done some repair work on the nails unless you closely scrutinise the areas.
Even after two coats, the varnish is removed quite easily with the liquid remover that I have and it doesn't stain the skin area around the nails which some very strong polishes do.
- Overall -
Given the price, this is an effective nail varnish. It isn't the longest lasting but saying that, I have paid more for more inefficient nail polishes.
The colour and shine is good for me although it's a little irritating that it doesn't dry as quickly as it claims. It may seem dry to the touch but try doing anything as outlined above and it can smudge and come away from the nail.
Summary: An effective varnish given the price. Doesn't dry as quickly as claimed and needs two coats.
