17 Fast Finish Nail Varnish
Advantages: Dries quickly, great range of colours, super price and lives up to claims
Disadvantages: Stains nail slightly after use for a couple of days
After deciding I needed to refresh my nail polish collection I decided I would try some bolder colours. I normally go for the muted pastel tones of pink and purple on my fingernails reserving my vibrant blues and purples for my toes. I'm not sure why I do this but I figured I'd like a change. So I toddled off to the No.17 counter - my favourite for nail polishes. I had a wide spectrum of shades to pick from and decided to go fro the Fast Finish range. I tend to be very clumsy once I have applied nail polish and usually smudge some while it's drying so the appeal of a one coat polish that dries in 60 seconds sounded less problematic
The Fast Finish range comes in 20 shades which are:-
I picked the Pink Lemonade (a lovely candyfloss pink) and True Blue (a sky blue shade). Full priced these are £2.99 each, but there is currently an offer to get 2 for £4.00 saving £1.98. The Fast Finish Nail polish comes in a small glass bottle with a black screw on lid that holds the brush. The bottle has black writing on it stating '17" and 'Fast Finish" on the front. On the back are directions of use - apply one coat and the polish dries in 60 seconds.
The claims that the Fast Finish dries in 60 seconds and that you only need 1 coat was a little difficult to believe and I was expecting to need 2 coats and that the polish would dry in 60 seconds but would still be quite tacky to the touch. I used the True Blue shade first and was impressed with the thickness of the polish. It didn't drip off the brush as some others do but held on the brush well. I applied it in a fairly generous layer onto my nails which was very easy as it has a good sized brush. The brush seems to allow the polish to be spread evenly over the nail and covers you nail in near enough one sweep. The colour was bright and vivid and really stood out. After apply the one coat to each nail I did see that one coat would not quite be enough, particularly on the larger nails such as my thumbs. Here the polish had given an even coat but was still a little transparent. Other that these odd nails though the fast finish had performed pretty well with 1 coat.
As for the 60 seconds drying, I thought I would test this out a little, so after the first coat I left it around a minute and a half then pressed on the top of a couple of nails to see if it smudged - I was extremely surprised to find that it was dry. I didn't smudge it and it wasn't tacky. Perhaps I couldn't have gone about my usual daily business straight away with out damaging it but it was dry to the touch. I then immediately applied a second coat to the odd nail that needed it and this glided on perfectly. When I tried the Pink Lemonade shade I had the same great results as well.
The colour remained vibrant for the remaining duration on my nails and the polish lasted 3 days without chipping and even then it was only the nails I had had to put two coats on that chipped. There was no base coat or top coat on my nails either so they lasted very well - particularly when you consider how clumsy I am. The colour didn't fade or wear off and looked professional. The only issue I had was that when I removed the polish my nails looked stained - even after a few treatments of nail polish remover. For around 2 days after the polish was taken off the nails had a slight blu-ish tinge to them. I am partly blaming my nail polish remover for this as well as it isn't the best in the world but it does normally get the stains off.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Fast Finish polish fro 17. It does near enough dry in 60 seconds, but I would leave it an extra minute before you carry on with your housework etc. The claim of one coat only is also pretty accurate, but some nails may need a little extra just to get a solid coat. For the price of £2.99 you really cannot ask more of a nail polish and the slight staining of the nails if not bad enough to prevent you from re-using the range.
Summary: A great bargain buy for those who want a 'fast finish'
