I love my make up and have far more than I need so choosing what to review today was difficult! I have a bulging make up bag with a variety of products from all different kinds of brands. I particularly love eye shadows and have lots of them so I can use them to blend together for different effects. This number 17 eye shadow is one which I like to wear for a special occasion because it is glittery. Why I bought it I bought this eye shadow about two years ago. I always get drawn to the make up when I am in Boots and cannot help myself so I'm always trying the samples. I was attracted to this particular one because it was glittery and I love glittery things! At the time it was summer and I had a few weddings to attend and I thought having some glittery eye shadow would be perfect. I tried a variety of different colours but the one I bought was a pale purple shade. I chose this one because I thought it was summery and it would blend well with a grey eye shadow I have. It was only £2.99 which I think is a good price to pay for the product. ++Packaging++ The packaging for this eye shadow is quite typical for a cheaper brand. Some of the expensive brands of eye shadows that I have come in really fancy pots with special applicators and little mirrors but this is very simple and that is fine for me. I have quite a few individual pots like this now from various cheaper brands and they work just fine. It is a small pot about the size of a 50p and about 3cm tall so it's not very big but the eye shadow is dense so actually it's a perfect size, you probably get more in it than you do in the more expensive ones actually which tend to be thinner and the packaging taken up with applicators and mirrors and things. The pot itself is black and the lid is also black but the top of it has a see-through part which makes it possbile to see into the pot so you can see the colour of the shadow. I only have the one in this brand but if I had more than one this would be really useful so I would know which colour it is that I am holding. The number 17 logo is on the little window too and that's silver along with some wording and that doesn't take away from being able to see in. It's a very sleek pot really, it's not fancy or special but I don't think it looks particularly cheap either. ++Using the eye shadow++ To use the eye shadow you untwist the lid to open it and it reveals the shadow inside. It is round like the pot and has a pattern on it which is a bit like rays of sunshine. Obviously over time as you use the shadow the pattern goes away but it's nice to see at first and shows you that it's not been tampered with in the shop too! It's almost right at the top of the pot which makes it really easy to use, I just have to wipe my finger over it to use it and the rim of the pot doesn't get in the way. As it begins to run out it will do but I do really like how smooth it is. You can choose how you use this, sometimes I apply it with my fingers but other times I use a brush it depends upon the effect I am hoping for on my eyes. When I use my finger I find that I need to use slightly more as it stays on my finger more than it does a brush. I run my finger along the shadow and it comes away from the pot and onto my finger fine without having to press hard. It feels very slightly grainy from the glitter but only in a very, very soft way which is good as that means it is not going to scratch my skin when I apply it. Transferring it from my finger to my eye lid is easy, I do have to press on a little more than I do with the brush but it does apply nicely and doesn't scratch despite the tiny bits of glitter within this. When I use a brush I find that the shadow comes away from the pot easier and sometimes it's easy to get too much onto the brush so before I apply this to my lids I dab it on a tissue to get rid of residue, if I don't do this then it tends to be harder to apply and ends up beneath my eyes! I like to blend my eyeshadows together so tend to use a darker colour along with this purple, I use a grey and it blends really well despite this one being glitter and the other one not. ++The look++ When applying this I really like it because it is glittery yet smooth. When I first tried it I wondered how well it would hold up over time and whether the glitter would end up falling and landing underneath my eyes and making me look a bit messy but I am happy to say it was really pleasing. The colour I have is a purple, it is slightly darker in the pot than it is on my lids but I think that that is quite normal for eyeshadows as they do tend to be that bit darker when all compressed in the pot. The purple on my lids is lavender and really pretty, it's lovely to use in the summer as it's light but the glitter gives it a lift which makes it perfect for special occasions. It is not a very glittery eye shadow, I have had some which are quite frankly dazzling and more for a night clubbing, this is a nice, pretty glitter that gives a lovely shine. It's not too fine that you can't see it though, it still catches the light and shines really nicely, it's a really lovely middle ground between dazzling and subtle so is just perfect for me. I do like the effect it has and as I have said previously it blends well with other shades too. I tend to use this as the main colour on my lid and blend in a darker colour at the edges. The texture is smooth despite the glitter and it doesn't gather together in one part- I have some shadows which are not very smooth and I find after a while it moves and gets all powdery looking at the creases of my eyes which is not a good look! The real test is whether this lasts a long time and it is impressive. It will not last an entire day but I am yet to find a cheap brand eye shadow in a pale colour that does but it does last a good few hours. I find that it remains perfect for about an hour or two and then after that it begins to fade a little but one thing I have noticed is that the glitter does not run or move, I do not end up with flecks of glitter under my eyes. When I wear this for a wedding or something I take it with me in my bag so I can apply a bit more if I need to after a few hours in and because it's only a small pot it's not a problem to do this at all so I don't mind that it doesn't have the longest staying power there is. ++Conclusion++ I have owned this now for about two years and think it is a lovely eye shadow. I tend to wear it for events because I don't like to wear much make up on a casual basis and find that a glittery eye shadow is a bit much for taking my little girl to school or doing the food shop! I think this is a perfect eye shadow to have for a special occasion especially in the summer as the shade I have is lovely and light. I don't think it's just for young people either, some really glittery eye shadows do tend to be best for young clubbers but this is a shadow which I think all ages can enjoy. My mum has used some before and I don't think it looked 'too young' for her so I think it will appeal to lots of people. It does just come in a pot with no applicator or anything with it but I like that it doesn't because I already have sponges and brushes that go with eye shadows so don't require any more and I like that this pot is just all about the shadow with no parts of it just dedicated to how to apply it. It's only a small pot so it's easy to then take along with me in my bag to an event. It has travelled well as it has been on several journeys with me but I do have a few friends who have dropped theirs and it's resulted in the shadow becoming lose and then making it hard to apply as it's a bit fly away then so I'm always really careful to make sure that it's well protected in my make up bag. I think buying this for under £3 is good value. I do not wear it all of the time but probably about twice a month and I still haven't got anywhere near the bottom of it yet so it's lasted me a good long time. I do like to buy expensive brands of make up too but find that this compares nicely to the more expensive brands, the only way it differs is the packaging really but the actual quality of the eye shadow itself is just fine! I really like it and just writing about it makes me want to start getting ready for a special occasion so I can wear some more! Available from Boots in various shades.
~17 Glitter Eye Shadow~ 17 is a make up collection available from Boots. As well as offering a standard range of eye shadows, they also offer a glitter range for 'eyes that sparkle. This range includes 8 sparkly shades including green, pink and silver so there is something for everyone. The shades have individual names such as 'Socialite' and 'Heartbreaker'. 17 claim that these eye shadows are 'individual pots of vibrant eye colour with bursts of glitter'. Each eye shadow has been dermatologically tested and is fragrance free. Each eye shadow is presented in a small, round plastic pot with a screw top lid. The lid features a clear window allowing the actual shade choice to be visible. ~Price and Availability~ This eye shadow can be purchased from www.boots.com or instore. Each shade is priced at £3.89. The 17 range is often on some kind of special offer. The current offer is a free eye palette when you spend more than £5.99 across the range. ~My Thoughts~ I am a fan of the 17 range of cosmetics as it offers a budget alternative to my favoured No7 range. The tiny Boots chemist half way down my street stocks 17 products so I occasionally treat myself to the odd bit here and there. A while ago (can't quite remember if it was earlier this year or late last year) I picked up a small 17 set which included eyeliner, lipgloss and a glitter eye shadow. I paid around £2.00 for the set and all the products were full size. Until recently, I regularly used the glitter eye shadow that came with this set. I took it on a night away last weekend and I can only hope my sister took it home in her bag as it disappeared from my make up bag! I hope to find it again as it is one of my favourites. I don't wear a great deal of make up but I do like to do up my eyes if going on a night out or just feel like dolling up a little. I would say this product is aimed more at younger wearers. I'm not keen on glittery make up for my face but do like a little bit of shimmer on my eyes. This eye shadow is the perfect size to throw in a make up bag. The lid stays secure and when brand new, the surface of the eye shadow looks quite cool! I have shade 'Night Sky' which is the darkest in this range. I absolutely love dark eye shadows especially for a night out but I plan on buying a few of the lighter shades soon too. The eye shadow is neatly packed into the small compact. There is no applicator supplied but this is fine for me as I prefer to apply my eye shadow with my finger or one of my own eye shadow brushes. Night Sky is a really gorgeous shade but more suited to those who like a stand out shade rather than subtle. I apply this after my eyeliner and before my mascara. I find that when I run my brush over the surface of the shadow, a decent amount of powder is released and clings to the brush. This eye shadow isn't messy to apply like some cheaper, glittery eye shadows are. Despite containing tiny specks of glitter, this eye shadow goes on beautifully smooth and doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. It glides across my eyelid without dragging and doesn't crease. The finish is matte with a slight sparkle. Night Sky whilst in the compact is black with silver lines. Once applied to my eyelids, the black is the predominant colour but the silver blends in neatly to lighten the depth of the black. Without the silver sparkle, the look would be gothy and vamp but with the silver sparkle it gives a grown up, delicately shimmery look which is perfect for a night out. I love the look that this eye shadow creates. The sparkle catches the light nicely but never looks tacky or OTT. Anytime I have worn this eye shadow, I have had no issues with the glitter flaking off and landing on my cheeks. The colour looks quite vibrant and doesn't fade easily. I don't go on all night benders so my nights out aren't long really but I have been pleased with how strong the colour still looks after several hours. It is easy to remove with a make up wipe or liquid. ~Conclusion~ This eye shadow looks good and lasts well too. It is a purse friendly price and one little pot will last for ages. I can recommend these glitter eye shadows as they are of a decent quality. They add a touch of sparkle for the festive season and aren't just suitable for teenagers in my opinion. Thanks for reading :)
~~~~~~~~ Pretty pots ~~~~~~~~ These pretty little eyeshadows are part of the Boots 17 range of cosmetics, which I personally like for its fun range of affordable make-up in bright and vibrant colours. From brushes to bronzers and eye liners to mascaras, you can get every type of make-up from 17, and it won't break the bank. These small pots of glitter eyeshadow cost £3.89 each, with which you will receive 12 Advantage Card points. And of course, do look out for offers as Boots often seems to have various deals on cosmetics - and currently there is a "Buy One Get Second Half Price" offer on 17 cosmetics. I would also suggest that you do shop around online as you can pick these up very cheaply elsewhere - and in fact I now have three of these eyeshadows as I bought two of them for around the £1 mark from a discounted cosmetics website. So I will review all three colours here as they are all available on the Boots website, and I will do my best to describe the shades I am reviewing... ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Simple packaging ~~~~~~~~~~~~ These glitter eyeshadows come in very simple black pots with screwtop lids. They have 17 Glitter written on the lid, which is see-through so you can see the product inside. As with most budget make-up brands, the packaging is very simple and plain. But although it is nothing special, the packaging is functional, and the small size means these shadows are easy to store or to slip into any make-up bag or purse. So onto the three shades I own... ***Superstar*** This is quite a dark green eyeshadow, and not normally the type of colour I would necessarily go for - however this is one of the shadows I picked up cheaply which encouraged me to try something new! This is quite a pigmented eyeshadow, and the powder formula is fairly soft so, applying this with a brush or fingertip, this gives a lot of colour to the eyelids. And it is quite a strong and intense shade of green and is really not for the fainthearted! In the pot you can see that this has small specks of glitter in it and I was glad that once on the eyes these weren't blatantly obvious 'flecks' of glitter - instead they help create a pretty silver shimmer which works well with the shade of green. As I say this is definitely not one for those of you who prefer a more subtle look! This is pigmented enough that you could definitely create quite a dramatic look if that is what you were after, and it can really make a feature of your eyes by making them stand out. However, I think it looks lovely when blended with a lighter silver shade which is what I tend to do with this one. You can also use it as an eyeliner on the lower lashline to create a very pretty effect. I think this may be a good one for darker skin tones and brown eyes. ***Socialite*** This eyeshadow is a lovely aqua blue shade, and again you can see there is a fair bit of silver glitter in the shadow. This is probably my favourite of the three shades that I own. It is such a pretty shade of blue and it again has that lovely shimmer to it. I tend to apply a light sweep of this to my lids and then build it up to create a more dramatic effect - I like to build the colour up on my upper lashline and in the outer corners of my eyes. But sometimes I'll just apply a quick swipe of this colour to my eyelids and that's it, as that is all you really need for a simple yet pretty daytime look. Once on the eyelids, this is a nice light blue shade that isn't over dramatic, which is why I feel I can get away with this in the daytime. The silver glitter in this shadow means it also works really nicely when blended with silver eyeshadow. And again the glitter particles are tiny so make the shadow more shimmery than all-out glittery. I think this is more versatile than the green version as it is more subtle, and I think would suit more skin tones and colourings. ***Heart Breaker*** This is the most subtle of the three glitter eyeshadows I own, and would probably be most suited to more people. It is a light and pretty baby pink colour which, to me at least, appears to contain a bit more glitter than the other two colours I have described above. As this is a pale shade, I think this works perfectly as a daytime look, despite the hint of glitter in it! On the eyelids it really is quite a subtle shade, and even the glitter isn't overly dramatic - and again gives eyes more of a shimmery look. It is a colour that changes slightly in the light due to the shimmer in the shadow, and this gives it a pretty sheen that helps prevent it being a bit too boring! The nice thing about this pink shadow is you can apply it for a fresh and pretty daytime look, then simply blend it with another colour if you are off out in the evening and want something a little more dramatic. I have used this shade alongside a dark charcoal shade and this really makes it more interesting. I quite like the fact that this one is a very simple shade, yet has that bit of glitter to stop it being flat and dull. ~~~~~~~~~~ Staying power ~~~~~~~~~~ All three of these eyeshadows have good staying power, although I have to mention I always wear a primer under eyeshadow so I can't vouch for how long it would stay put for without. But these do feel like good quality shadows despite the low price. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The shimmer effect ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The colours I have are all different yet all have that nice shimmery effect to them. I like the fact that although these shadows contain glitter, it is not over-the-top, and you don't get fall-out that you get with other glittery eyeshadows, when you end up with glitter everywhere when you just wanted it on your eyelids! Instead the glitter in these shadows stays put and is part of the shadow itself rather than feeling as though it is "loose". ~~~~~~~~ In summary ~~~~~~~~ If you like shimmery shadows I would recommend giving these ones a try. The colours are bright and fun, and they give a nice shimmer to your eyelids. They are also easy to build up and/or use alongside other shadows to create a variety of pretty looks that work for either day or night. My final tip? Shop around as you can pick these up cheaply from online discount cosmetics retailers. ~~~~~~~ Other info ~~~~~~~ As well as the three colours I have described here, you can also pick up these eyeshadows in a variety of other colours including gold, silver, bronze and charcoal grey. The eyeshadows are dermatologically tested and fragrance free.
I can't remember how much I paid for these but I bought a couple of them around two years ago now. I bought a gold shade and a green shade. The eyeshadow contains real glitter that makes it look sparkly and glittery. The eyeshadow can be used alone or it can be used with a primer. Usually using a primer leads to a longer lasting (and a more vibrant) look. You can apply the eyeshadow with a brush or you can apply it with a standard foam applicator. I find it to be easier to apply when I use a standard foam applicator as I have more control over the glitter then. Using a brush usually leads to glitter ending up everywhere. The glittery effect is really bold and eyecatching. You can also "layer" the eyeshadow for an even more vibrant effect. You can then create your own unique look by "mixing" together two or three shades. The shades mix together well and they manage to compliment each other. The eyeshadow lasts most of the day before it starts to crease. To avoid the "creasing" look you can use a primer beforehand, or Vaseline which works just as well. The eyeshadow looks great. The glitter effect really opens up your eyes and you can use the product as an eyeliner too. Just apply it with an eyeliner brush to define your eyes whilst adding a touch of sparkle. Bargain glitter eyeshadows.
I heard many people's reviews saying that this is a good eye shadow - so I decided to give it a try! I saw it in boots, as well this is the only place where the eye shadow is sold as it is in the Boots 17 make-up range! once for 50p (original price is 3.49, then I thought was a lot of money for a little eye shadow) - I bought two as they were so cheap! I found a bargain there! I bought the green glimmer shade, at first I thought that this was going to be like just any ordinary eye shadow and rub off whenever they feel like it! But when I first applied it I was going to expect my prediction, however after one day of using it, I changed my opinion and thought that this eye shadow is actually pretty awesome and does a good job! The good thing about this product is that it is fragrance free and you don't have to apply much to get a good color! Even if you use a pea-sized amount you can still get good results! This comes in about 24 m tub so you get a good amount too. You can get this eye shadow in many colors including pink, blue, silver, black, purple, grey, nude, brown and any other color you can think of really! Overall, this is actually worth buying and you may judge the price at first but don't do that anymore cause it will do a better job than you expect and this product is also good as it does not take up too much room in your handbag/make-up bag so you have more room for more stuff! But make sue you don't cram too much otherwise you could loose this eye shadow - especially if you don't put it in some pocket or make-up bag, as this eye shadow is too good to loose!
After seeing the price of the 17 glitter solo eye shadows at £3.49 a pot in Boots I thought they were worth a try at that price. I purchased the Gold Digger shade, which was as it describes, gold in colour. It comes in a small plastic pot with a clear lid you screw on and off, with the base being deep blue in colour. The number 17 is labelled on the top of the clear lid. The texture of the eye shadow was quite smooth for a powder, which I was quite impressed with. The eye shadow kept its form in the pot for a long while and did not crumble over time - this was a bonus as it wasn't messy. The colour was rich and sparkly, just as I'd hoped for. I used a standard applicator brush purchased separately from Boots (it does not come with one) and it applied really well and evenly after only one covering. It had good "stay put power" too and lasted most of the day, which saved re-applying. I was actually so impressed with the glitter shadow that I bought another one in a green shade. The advantage with these small pots is that you can then mix and blend shades together on your eyes to create slightly different colours. A truly great eye shadow, one of the best I have ever used. A definite 5 out of 5 stars.
***BOOTS 17*** The 17 range is only available to buy from boots as it is their own brand. This is a fantastic cosmetic range which is good quality and also affordable. The range includes Eye-liners, Eye shadows, Mascara, Foundation, Bronzer, Powders, Lipstick, Glosses, Nail Varnish and Nail Care, Self tanning products and they do accessories which includes make up brushes, cosmetic bags/cases, false nails and more. Very often with the 17 range if you spend over a certain amount you will get a free gift such as a cosmetic set or other single item such as an eye-shadow or mascara. The 17 range is cheaper than other cosmetic brands and their items are as just as good quality. I have been using the 17 range for well over 5 years now and they continue to bring out new products and different shades and types of products to suit everyone. Although I may not use their products every single day, I am always on the look-out for new items and promotions on the 17 range. ***GLITTER EYE-SHADOW*** I first tried the glitter eye-shadow which was free with a set because I spent over a certain amount and ever since then I have continued to buy the product and even try different colours. The eye shadow range is individual ports of vibrant colour with added glitter which makes your eyes sparkle. The eye shadows come in 8 different colours which includes pink, blue, silver, green, gold and other colours as well. All the eye-shadows are fragrance free and dermatologically tested. For one pot of this eye-shadow it will cost you £3.49, which I think is reasonable. ***USING THE EYE-SHADOW*** The eye-shadow comes in a black plastic pot which has a clear screw lid. On the back of the pot it will have the name of the colour on. For example the colour I use is called Style queen and is a nice white/silver shade. The eye-shadow can be applied easily using a small brush or a foam applicator which I find easier as you can have more control where you want to apply the product. It glides across your eye-lid with minimal effort. I wanted my colour a bit stronger so I applied another layer over the top, how-ever this might not be the case with the darker/stronger colours. I used this eye-shadow for a night out on the town and it lasted all night with no need to re-apply, so it definitely has staying power which is brilliant. To remove the eye-shadow I simply used a facial wipe and it just came off very easily. Considering I wore this eye-shadow for at least 7-8hrs it caused no irritation to my eyes at all. Sometimes I find that some eye-shadows can make your eyes dry (I have had this may times before), how-ever this product didn't make my eyes dry at all. ***OVERALL OPINION*** I love this product and I think it's the best eye-shadow I have used in a long time. I don't use the eye-shadow every day as I only use it when I have nights out on the town which is every few weeks. Depending on how often you use the shadow will depend on how it lasts but because I only use mine once every few weeks it last's me for ages. If you compare this to other brands, this has staying power which lasts all night, causes no irritation to eye's and it's also affordable and comes in a range of different colours as well. I would highly recommend other's to try this eye-shadow and even other products in the 17 range. I currently use their liquid foundation and their pressed powder and it's perfect for my skin. You could even use different coloured shadows and blend them together to create different effects and colours. This is a product I will continue to buy and I will also be trying some of the other colours in this range as well. (review also on ciao)
I really like Boots 17 make up range. It is quite cheap and very funky, so has lots of modern colours, very now, and very fashionable. I'm not naturally gifted at chosing which colours and styles will suit me so I would be taking a big risk if I bought expensive make up, I really like 17 as you can buy make up cheap and then if the colour doesn't suit you then it is no huge loss! I'm not normally too bothered by glittery things, which is funny seeing as I am a girl and normally the sparkle catches girls eyes making them irrestible! However I got this as part of a set, in a pruple shade, and I quite like purple eyeshadow so I thought I would use this to jazz up my usual night out make up. The eyeshadow comes in a small round pot with a clear lid so you can see the colour, the lid is a screw top, easy to undo and do up, and keeps a nice tight seal so that it doesn't leak. The eyeshadow is quite brittle and is very easy to cause dust when applying some onto a brush, so needs a quick blow of air before applying to the eye (this is not a downside necessarily to this particular eyeshadow, yet happens with quite a few of them). The colour itself is quite mild, not as strong and as vibrant and certainly needs a few applications if you want a strong look. I found that quite disaapointing as the colour in the pot was nice and bright, yet when you apply it was much weaker and lighter. The glitter is in very small particles, which in my opinion (I guess it depends what you are after) was good as it was much more of a subtle look. From now on I have only bought 17 eyeshadows when I want a weaker subtle colour and they have worked well, just don't go for them if you want more of a wet look, like a strong colour.
I don't often buy make-up, especially eyeshadow, and when I do I'm always surprised at how expensive it can be! This is why I choose the Boots 17 brand for my make-up, as it is generally good quality and cheap in addition to earning you advantage points. The Glitter Solo Eyeshadow costs about £3.49 for a small pot with a clear lid. This is quite good value compared to other products which can charge around £10 just for one eyeshow. It has a nice swirl design when you first open (I didn't want to ruin it!) and it comes with an applicator but it can be easily applied with a brush or your finger. I bought the shade "champagne" which is a lovely bronze colour perfect for wear either in the day or night. I applied this using a brush and was extremely impressed with how well it goes on. It spreads out very smoothly and evenly even though you may need a few strokes to get the colour you want, but this may be because I have tan skin and eyeshadow isn't usually vibrant enough. It stayed on my eyelids without flaking or spreading all around my eyes unlike some eyeshadows do. It gives a lovely shimmery look without being too obviously glittery. The eyeshadow for me lasted all night without needing any touch-ups. The glitter didn't end up flaking off my eyelids and it also didn't crease and remained smooth all night. Even though it lasted for so long it was very easy to remove with water or a make-up wipe. I'd definitely buy more of this eyeshadow and I'm looking forward to trying out more of the colours! It's a great value eyeshadow of great quality. Thanks for reading, All dooyoo miles I earn go to the WWF so all ratings are very appreciated and will be returned x
I spotted a gift set of Boots 17 products really cheap (£1 for eyeshadow, nail polish and mascara) so just had to get it, if only to test them out as I've not really used the brand before. Usually this eyeshadow costs £3.49 so I got great value for money here. As you'd expect from something called Glitter Solo Eyeshadow, this is a glittery eyeshadow. The one I have is a silver colour but it also comes in white, pink, green, blue, gold, brown and black so there should be a colour for everyone. The pot is a small screw top one with a clear top so you can see the eyeshadow colour through it. There's no applicator, but many products don't come with these so I have a set of brushes which I used. The eyeshadow goes on very smoothly. I even tried applying it with a finger and ended up with a smooth even finish. The glitter is very fine so it's comfortable to wear with no scratchy bits, and it gives a shimmery look with a wash of colour rather than bold glitter. If you want a stronger look then this can be applied over another eyeshadow. I found that on its own it gave my eyes a glamerous look without being too much for daytime wear. The durability is excellent. Unlike many glittery products, I didn't find shedded bits all over my face. The colour and sparkle lasted all day and I was impressed to find that it hadn't creased. When you need to remove it though, it easily comes off with eye make up remover. You don't need to scrub and irritate your eyes. I thought this was a fantastic eyeshadow whether you want a subtly glamerous daytime look or glitzy party eyes, and I'll be off to pick up some more shades
I have not purchased 17 Makeup for a long time now, I used it quite a lot when I first started using makeup as it was quite reasonably priced. I was given a set of 17 makeup as a present for christmas which included the glitter eyeshadow that I am reviewing. ===== The Product ==== The glitter eyeshadow comes in a small round black compact with a clear screw on lid allowing you to see the product inside, the pot is quite deep although as with most products like this the eyeshadow is in small silver try which is half the size of the pot. As you look at the eyeshadow it does seem to have a high glitter content and as the colour I have is the sliver it really does sparkle. Like most pot eyeshadows is does not come with it's own brush so you need a eyeshadow brush or your finger to apply. The powder is quite fine and has quite a smooth texture which is unusual when there is a glitter content as this can make the powder quite coarse. ===== Applying The Product ===== As I said above you will need to apply with a brush or your fingers, As the eyeshadow is quite fine and has a high glitter content I would recommend that you dust a little loose powder under your bottom lashes to the top of your cheekbones as this will catch any bits of eyeshadow and can be dusted away with the loose powder when you have finished. The eyeshadow goes on smoothly and I didn't need to drag the skin while applying, I did need to apply a few strokes to get the depth of colour that I wanted but this may have been because of the sliver colour that I was using. I found that if I wanted to have the colour under my bottom lashes it was easier to use a thin eyeliner brush and slightly damp it before dipping into the eyeshadow as this allows greater colour definition and stops the eyeshadow from falling or fading, you can also use it as an eyeliner when wearing a different shade as it makes a great contrast. ===== The Look ===== With the Silver colour I found that it was easy to achieve quite a subtle colour with just a stoke or two and this made me look refreshed. With just adding a few extra coats I was able to achieve a more dramatic look and the colour you see in the pot is the colour achieved with a about three coats on the lids. The Glitter is very visable on the eye and really sparkles especially under lights. ===== How Did It Last ===== I found that when I used this for a night out it lasted all night and I only needed to do just a little touch up through the evening and it stayed really well on my bottom lash line which had been applied with the slightly damp eyeliner brush. I did find that there were a few spots of glitter on my cheeks at the end of the night but you could hardly see them. ===== Removing ===== The eyeshadow was easily removed with my eye make up remover and I didn't need to drag the skin to remove it at all and all the glitter come off with ease. ====== My Overall Conclusion ====== I think that this is a fantastic little pot of eyeshadow, it's reasonable priced and lasts a long time. Due to the price it means you can buy a few shades and create many different looks for both day and evening and as the pots quite small it's prefect for your makeup bag for touch ups on the go. It was easy to apply and lasted for as long as I needed it too and was easy to remove. I also found it great to use the eyeshadow to give sparkle on my body too although this will of course mean that you will go through the pot quicker. ===== Price And Availability ===== 17 Makeup is available in boots stores and online, it's available in many colours from Silver, Gold, Black and many in between so there really is a colour to suit everyone. Price is approx £ 3.49
I bought this Boots 17 Glitter Eye Shadow at the same time that I bought the glitter eyeliner (see previous review) as I wanted sparkly eyes for the Christmas season. The shade I'm reviewing is called 'Spirit' and it's a silver/grey colour. It's also available in the following shades: 'Style Queen' (white/silver) 'Heart Breaker' (pink) 'Chalice' (brown) 'Gold Digger' (gold) 'Superstar' (green) 'Night Sky' (black) 'Socialite' (blue) The two featured in the picture on Dooyoo I would say are 'Socialite' and 'Style Queen'. I would've actually preferred the 'Night Sky' shade but it wasn't available so I just chose 'Spirit' instead. It's a grey-sort-of-dark-silver shade so it's great for smoky looking eyes. They are currently selling for £3.49 each and all Boots 17 products are on 3 for 2 at the moment. If you have a Boots Advantage Card you'll earn yourself 12 points by purchasing one of these. The packaging says that it's fragrance-free and dermatologically tested too. I found it very easy to apply. It doesn't come with an applicator so you have to use your own; I just used a normal sponge eye shadow applicator. It glided onto my eyelids very easily and only needed to be applied once for an even cover. It really makes your eyes stand out as the glitter catches the light all the time! It's not like the eyeliner; the glitter pieces are very small and silky so if they get into your eye it doesn't cause any irritation. I normally have an issue with my eye shadow forming into a line across the middle of my eyelid if I've been wearing if for a few hours but this wonderful eye shadow stayed smoothed all day. My one criticism of this eye shadow is that the glitter does seem to travel around your face a bit! Even though this was the only glitter make-up I was wearing I still ended up with sparkly bits on my cheeks, forehead and one person commented "you have glitter on your nose!" As the 'Spirit' shade isn't very dark on its own, I like to put my normal eye shadow on first then put a thin layer of this across the top to give my eyes that added sparkle. Overall I really like this so I intend to go back and buy the 'Night Sky' shade to add to my make-up collection too!
I am working my way through my makeup bags to review products which I think are really good or not so much to give my opinion and hopefully help some people finds some good cosmetics :) I get bought a lot of No17 products as they are Boots own make and everybody seems to shop there, lol! One of the things I got last Christmas in a gift pack was a single 'Glitter Eye Shadow' which is really pretty and light, plus I do like this company's makeup as it is not tested on animals and it's dermatologically tested like this little item... The pot is about one inch in circumference and grey plastic which can be recycled; it is fragrance free and with a twist off lid that is see through and has all pink and silver sparkly stars printed on it. Made in England, my shade is called 'Style Queen' and is a light white very glittery powder which is like fairy dust when you use it! Mine came plastic sealed for hygiene and I've found the best way to apply it is with a sponge applicator brush... The powder is very fine and you can definitely see the silver glitter both in the pot and on your skin. I love the fact it is so shimmery and can be both used on it's won as a light covering or on top of a duller colour to jazz it up a bit. Another thing I do is put a bit under my eyes when I go out at night; it looks really effective under club lights. I have had this little pot for months now and although I only use it once or twice a week there's still plenty left. Really recommend as a light base or a top shimmering coating which is really glittery like its name! My friends and I have used it as body glitter too as it is really fine and subtle and pretty plus safe on the skin. Another five star product form the No17 range, it's really cool! :)
When it comes to make up I love the stuff! I own 3 huge make up cases and have a suitcase full of bits and pieces. Because I own so much I can't really justify buying any more so if I do I buy items on offer or of reasonable price because the chances are with the amount of stuff I own I'll probably never get round to using it and occasionally I even have a huge kick out and I'm shocked at how much stuff I end up disposing of is virtually new! However I do get a bit bored with what I own from time to time and if I'm going out (I had two dates last week with different guys) more often than not I'll use that as excuse to revamp my look a bit! One range of products I do rather like because it's economical, up to date on colours and easy to use is Boots 17 range. If I want or need something in particular then I will purchase No7 for my sophisticated make up or Urban Decay for more 'out there' stuff for mainly evening use. However as I have pointed out at the moment I seriously need nothing I just wanted something! lol. I was drawn to this range a week or so ago cos if I spent a fiver I would get a free gift of a bronzing kit (I haven't stopped using that since I got it lol) but like I say to get it I needed to spend some money and as I was going on a date (his name was Geoff and no I wasn't keen though he was lol) I decided a couple of new eyeshadows would be appropriate and that's when I spotted these 'New' glitter eyeshadows. Now I'm almost 35 years old and although I like a bit of glitz and glamour never do I want to look like an old bag trying to be young again so I'm wary of glittery products. However I feel if I keep my make up rather sophisticated on other areas of my face I can get away with dressing my eyes up somewhat so I purchased a light pink glittery one (mine is called heart breaker) and then I got another solo eyeshadow from the range which is just simply a powder (no glitter) to calm things down a bit. The Packaging: Black round plastic pot with a clear 'window' to the top of it and on that in black writing I'm simply told it's 17 Glitter. On the base of the pot I'm told it is Dermatologically tested and fragrance free, the colour is stated (as I've told you already), contact details for Boots are shown as is the recycle symbol and finally there is a bar code on there. The lid simply screws on/off with ease and inside you have a 'rippled' effect solid powder colour. Using It: Well this is incredibly easy and fuss free to use and I love it! Now do bear in mind that my colour is light and that's not only cos it suits my skin stone but because I have very watery and sensitive eyes and if they go off on one they really visibly destroy the look of dark colours and I get in a mess so due to that fact this light shade may be easier to apply than darker colours in this range! So the powder is dry and it comes off on to your applicator or brush really, really easily. It has a very soft feel to it and I find I do need to gently tap my brush slightly as it really does coat my brush well. Then away I go! You can apply this over foundation or directly onto the skin or whatever and cos it's as smooth and soft as silk you just simply waft it where you want it on your eyes. With this colour as well not only can I colour my eyes I can use it as a highlighter and ever as a cheek colour! Not only is the powder infused with the colour, the glitter corresponds to that and overall there isn't heaps of glitter in it, just a few smooth speckles and the colour itself is shimmery too. Because it's not highly douced with glitter you will find that it really does go on to your eyes instead of flaking off on to your cheekbones etc and so you get a really polished look. Once on expect it to stay put for a good few hours. Even if you touch it you get minimal transference though I'm not going to lie and say you get none as it does have glitter in it after-all but it's minimal to say the least! lol Overall: Comfortable and easy to apply, it's easy to get an even look and you can apply it thinly for a more subtle look or build the colour up. It's kind to my sensitive eyes, I can't feel it on at all and I feel that I can make this eyeshadow subtle or really noticeable so it's great to create any look you want to and with ease! Suitable for daytime and nighttime looks and any age of woman who wants to play with a look shes stuck in a rut with. It's nice quality and made simple! What's more you get loads of product in a small handy pot and it blends well with any other eyeshadows you wish to use! A really nice buy and I shall definitely be stocking up on these particularly when there is a special offer on to get more free make up! Brill Boots! I paid £3.42 for my pot and it's available currently in 8 colours.
