Advantages: Stays on for ages, great price
Disadvantages: Bit too matte, hard to remove
Ever since the X Factor started this year I have been searching for a bright pink lipstick like the one that I have seen Cheryl Cole wearing so often. It's extremely frustrating when you spot the shade that you want on someone else and I had two trips to Boots before I finally discovered a shade that isn't perfect but is close enough!
I first bought a lipstick from the 'shine on' collection in the 17 range which was completely the wrong colour when I got home. (I will review this one later). On my second trip, after testing every pink lipstick on the back of my hand I finally chose a 'lasting finish' lipstick in 'Pink Power' in the hope that it would be the colour I wanted. I wasn't expecting miracles when I first used the product as I know how hard it is to find a good lipstick shade but I was pleasantly surprised at not just the colour, but also the other benefits of this lipstick.
The main thing that attracted me to choosing my lipstick from the 17 range was the price. I love No7 products but they can often be very expensive and for makeup products that don't really have to be of the highest quality I often choose No17. The lasting finish lipsticks cost £3.71 which is a great price if you just want to try out a new shade. The 17 range is also good if you need a specific shade for a fancy dress party and you can always rely on them to have the colours that are currently in fashion.
Another benefit of the 17 range is that you can use your Boots Advantage card points to buy things and as the prices are quite cheap, you don't need many points to afford them. I used my points to pay for my lipstick so effectively got a free one!
So as always when I buy new makeup, after purchasing my bargain lipstick I had to try it as soon as I got home. I applied the lipstick to my lips, building up the shade as the more lipstick you apply the more vibrant the colour, then blotted on a tissue and applied another layer. When looking in the mirror I noticed that the lipstick was sitting on the top of my lips and didn't look great. To solve this I used a lip brush to blend the colour into my lips giving a much more even colour.
This product felt lovely on my lips and although I usually don't like the feel of heavy lipstick, this one felt very light and lived up to it's moisturising properties by making my lips feel really soft. I really liked the colour as it was very bright and isn't for anyone who wants a subtle look, however I did feel that it was a bit too matte and would have looked better with a bit of a shine. To get over this, I applied a bit of clear lip gloss over the top, again blending it in with my lipstick and the finish was much more glossy and made the colour look even better.
As the product is named 'lasting finish' it is important to comment on how long it lasts and I'm pleased to say that it definitely stays in place for at least 4 hours (as it claims to) even when eating and drinking. In fact, I can apply the lipstick in the morning and still have a pink tint to my lips at the end of the day. Obviously if you apply gloss over the top this wears off quicker but the colour still remains.
The only disadvantage of this long lasting consistency is that it is very hard to remove. It really stains your lips and takes a bit of time rubbing with a makeup wipe to properly get it all off.
This range of lipstick comes in a large variety of colours including other popular shades such as Poncho Pink and Hot Chilli. It is recommended to try them on your lips before purchasing however, as the colour on the stick on the top of the tube always looks different to how it does on your lips.
Overall, if you find a shade you like this lipstick is great value and has really good lasting power. If you're sick of your lipstick wearing off after an hour or so then this is the product for you!

- 28/09/09 Oh my god they still do Heatherberry...you've just helped me spend some of my boots points! |

- 28/09/09 Haven't used a 17 lipstick since I was 11 and bought Heatherberry in their range - a lovely browny purple with slight shimmer. Hadn't thought to buy from there since, but it sounds from you review like they are just as good as they used to be. Another product I can pick up when doing the 3 for 2 offers and the spend £5 and get a GWP ones. |
