“ Brand: Boots 17 / Suitable for: Lip „
I have always hot trouble with this felt tip type lipstain and after trying various ones in the past I decided to give 17 a go. Here are my thoughts.
This is in a red highlighter pen type shape, with rubberised sized. The writing on this is in a shining silver and this does not rub off after repeated use. This one has a lip balm on one end and the stain n the other, both of which are covered with a plastic cap.
The product is just the right sized to put this in a small handbag or even a large purse and is durable enough to last a night out in a party clutch. The packaging is not overly glamorous, but it does look to be of good quality and gives a good first impression.
As with both lip stain ranges there was not an awful lot of choice, but I wanted a nice red so I picked this one, in Berry Crush. This is a lovely deep but still bright red and everybody notices it. The colour also lasts I can put this one mid morning and it is still showing a little the next morning. This can then be taken off with a baby wipe (although it does take some work!).
This is the first lipstain I have picked like this that is not totally dry, this is very easy to apply because of this. This means you have to be careful so that you don't go over the lines as it can stain the skin. This takes a couple of minutes to dry and once it does this does to move or transfer.
This balm is actually quite nice on its own and is quite similar to Vaseline, and once the stain is dry this does not go onto the balm and damage the colour. There is not an awful lot of balm here and once it is gone that's it. This cannot be bought separately, which is a major downside, but this could be replaced with Vaseline.
Price and Availability
This can only be bought from boots in store and online and retails for £6.99, I feel this is great value for money as I have already used this a number of times. I will look at buying more from the range in the future.
This is a great product that has great colour, staying power and also the balm is of amazing quality. I do recommend this.
I bought the deep pink of this range to try as my first attempt with a lip stain. I've been longing to try one fr a long time but have never got round to it. I picked this one for £4.99 from in store at Boots.
The tube itself is hot pink and adorned with writing. It's a cheap feeling and cheap looking product but it's cute and good enough. I don't expect high quality luxe when I'm paying so little! It feels nice and solid in my hand and is easily grippable. The applicator itself is like a felt tip pen. It is shaped to be able to fill in large chunks of your lips but also to fit into the crevices and make sure your entire lips are painted. I like the applicator and its shape.
As a low priced item I didn't expect the stain to be that great fr staying on, but it has surprised me with how durable it really is. My lips were still stained after a good six hours of wear. However, this is where my problems arose. As my lips were not all completely moisturised (there were some slightly dryer patches thy I was unaware of) I was left with streaky lips. The stain cling to the dryer areas darker than it did with the moisturised zones. I really hated the effect after long wear as my lips were all different shades.
This lip stain applies well and is available in a good range of colours. It is durable and last for ages but you must have perfectly smooth lips for this to look at all good.
When I last had a night out I ended up borrowing one of my cousins lip stains and I decided that I was quite in to the vampy red lips look and so I wanted to purchase one for myself. When I went to Boots they didn't have the same brand as the one my cousin had and the Rimmel one I wanted wasn't in stock so I opted for a 17 branded lip stain and this is my review of it.
The lip stain looks much like a felt tip pen to be honest in terms of the packaging. In fact a gent in the Post Office actually thought it was one when I used it in there! The colour of the tube reflects the colour of the product inside and so in my case it is quite a deep red colour but there are eight colours in total in this range and so the colour of the tube will vary from colour to colour. On the tube we have the 17 logo as well as the Berry Crush name and the words lip stain. There is also a product description written on the tube but I think it is pretty self explanatory. The product is a nice size and so I find it fits easily in to my bag, pocket or whatever if I want to take it out and about with me. You are told on the tube that you can use this product for twelve months after opening which is about average I think.
The lip stain features a cap which when removed exposes the applicator for the lip stain which again looks pretty much like a felt tip pen! I find that it is really easy to cover my lips in this lip stain for the most part and it draws on accurately. The colour sometimes doesn't come out as intense as I would like and so I have to go over it a few times or push the lip stain on my mirror or some paper just to get it flowing well. It does make a dramatic difference to my lips when I apply it and as I said I am fan of red vampy lips at the minute so I am happy with the initial application and the look that the product gives.
What is different with this lip stain than the one that my cousin had is the fact that this one actually has a little lip balm stick on the end of it which is designed to give you a bit of moisture to your lips. A lip stain can be quite drying so I think this is a good addition to the product and it also makes your lips shiny as opposed to matt which can be nice for a different look.
My one real bug bear with this product is that it only really lasts a couple of hours. I would expect more from a lip stain product which is supposedly kiss proof! Even if I apply a lipcote product over the top it will only last three or four hours and whilst I appreciate this is longer than a lip stick I would personally like it to last longer than this. What's more is the fact that as I use a red coloured lip stain is that as it rubs off it will cling to some dryer parts of my lip and it can look as though I am bleeding if I don't keep on top of it!
I do like this product and it was a cheap enough buy at £4.99. It does last longer than lip stick and I do like the colour of the stain that I bought as it is dramatic and sexy and makes my lips look full and attractive. I just wish it really stained my lips and lasted the whole day or night but I can keep topping it up if needs be. I will probably try a different brand next just to see if it lasts any longer but this is a colour I like so I may come back to this one.
Thank you for reading my review!
