Advantages: Doesn't irritate eyes or skin; fairly cheap; looks okay
Disadvantages: Pale colour; thin texture; poor staying power
I don't feel fully made-up without wearing liquid eyeliner, which gives a definite, precise line on the upper eyelid to enhance the lashes and define the eye. Not all cosmetic brands produce liquid eyeliner; for instance, I don't think Maybelline or Boots Natural Collection offer one in their ranges.
I experiment with different brands of make-up occasionally to make sure I'm not missing out on bargain prices or better quality items. If I recall correctly, I bought the 17 Liquid Eyeliner as part of a money-saving offer (3 for 2 on 17 cosmetics). It is usually priced at £3.91 for a tube. One tube of liquid eyeliner tends to last me a few months, so that is a reasonable price. Boots describe it as "a creamy and smudge proof eye liner perfect for creating a defined and dramatic look". I bought it in Black, my usual shade.
The liquid eyeliner is applied using the fine brush that is built into the lid, as with most other brands of liquid eyeliner. Make-up artists recommend steadying your elbow on a table whilst applying it, but I tend not to bother with that; I look straight into a mirror and paint a line just above my upper eyelids, flicking out at the outer corners of the eye.
The texture of the 17 Liquid Eyeliner was too thin for my liking, leading to a slightly 'gappy', imprecise line. To get a jet-black finish, I had to paint on more than one layer.
The staying power disappointed me; it seemed to 'crumble' at the edges of the line during the day.
I wouldn't completely write off this product. For people who prefer a more subtle, less distinct eye-line, it looks fine, and the crumbling isn't too obvious. In the future, thought, I'll be sticking to Rimmel Professional Liquid Eye Liner, or No.7 Liquid Eye Liner, both of which are pricier, but have provided excellent results. If you want a budget liquid eyeliner try the one from NYC cosmetics (stocked in Superdrug).
Please note that I've also posted this advert on Ciao.
Summary: 17 does most make-up items quite well; this one was a disappointment.
