If you are looking for a fast fashion update for your nails then consider this.
Don't throw out your entire nail varnish collection; simply buy this one product which will give a modern fashion hit to any of your beloved colours! 17 Matte Finish Topcoat is applied once your base and colour are dry. It is applied with the medium sized dense brush. The varnish itself is a good consistency, neither gloopy nor runny, and dries in a fair amount of time. As it dries the Topcoat takes out the shine of your colour leaving it a muted Matte. I have found that one coat alone works well, though two really makes the impact. 17 packaging is simple and clear and the twist lid is secure which keeps the product well.
This Matte look became a huge hit in 2011 and continues on. Its now being adapted from the whole nail coated to just tips, a cute new take on the French Manicure, alternate Matte and shine nails or stripe it out! Found at Boots for only £3.99 plus advantage card points (if you've got one). Have fun and be creative. I love mine :-)
I usually prefer Barry M for nail varnishes, but there was a good offer on the 17 range in Boots so I bought this matte top coat (along with a few other things!) a while ago, but only just got around to trying it.
It's a 10ml bottle, which is a standard size for nail varnishes. The colour looks like diluted milk in the bottle, but it goes on clear and doesn't change the colour of the nail varnish you're wearing it on top of. It does exactly what it says on the tin: as it dries, you can see your nail varnish turning from shiny to matte. It dries to the touch pretty quickly, within a minute.
The only thing I disliked about it is if you go over the same spot twice it will lift some colour off the bottom coat. This is especially problematic when you've given nail art a go: I ended up with a few smudged polka dots. It's important to get it on quickly and smoothly because it dries so quickly, otherwise it seems to highlight perfections more than a normal top coat would.
I think this is a really neat little product, and I'll buy more 17 nail varnishes in the future. It allows all colours in your nail varnish collection to do double duty, and looks especially good on top of nail art. My favourite look is bright yellow with white polka dots and the matte top coat, but if that's not your style, I liked it over a plain navy too.
Every super hero needs a daytime cover story superman had Clark Kent, spider man had Peter Parker why not let your nails have 17's matte top coat.
By night a glistening mirror of colour bouncing back colour and shining in the moonlight, but by day and the application of a single coat your nails take on mellow and down to earth look which is both subtle and classy.
17's matte top coat comes in a see through 10ml bottle. The actual product is a murky clear looking almost like cloudy lemonade but don't let this put you off, it goes on clear and doesn't affect the base colour.
The cost of this will set you back around £3.99 but I purchased it in a 3 for 2 offer in my local boots, after looking on my return this offer was also available online. It is situated on the 17 rack with the French polishes, base and top coats.
Basically what you purchase is a top coat which when applied turns any nail varnish matte. This saves you the hassle and cost of buying multiple matte nail varnishes instead you just apply your desired colour and stick a coat of 17 matte top coat over the top.... then bobs your uncle.....fabulous nails.
*~*~*HINTS AND TIPS*~*~*
So here are some handy facts I have discovered while testing out the product
* You only need one coat. Multiple coats barely change the look and just uses up the product.
* Try to clean off the brush after use, like all top coats the last thing you want is to get that hint of colour in the bottle.
* Although it is quick drying give it time. It may be touch dry but it certainly wont be completely dry so will still smudge if used.
* Don't mess about with the brush. Because of its quick drying nature going over it before its dry will result in lines or an un-even finish.
* Give it time.....as with many matte nail varnishes it takes some getting used to after all it is a completely different look.
* PLAY. Try a variety of looks painting over glitter, half a nail or repainting a gloss colour on the tips after a matte coat. There are many ways to decorate and some colours do look better matte than others.
This is one of the best additions to anyone's nail varnish collection since nail art pens. It will save you a fortune on matte nail varnish's which if we're honest never look that great compared to how we expect them to look. The great advantage with this product is the ability to use it over all your favourite glossy nail varnishes which means the colour is something you are already sure about and it's only the finish you have to try out. I have tried many matte nail varnishes from various brands and once you try them they look nothing like the colour in to bottle and that wave of disappointment comes over you when you realise you're either going to have to settle for it or start all over.
I cannot express how good this product is and combined with the great quality of 17 products in general it's a fantastic pairing. I love the fact I can have glossy shining nails in the evening and just a lick of paint in the morning and it completely tones down my nails and allows them to be more everyday. It looks great over most colours including a French manicure which I believe makes it look a lot more natural. As I write this I am wearing the product over a two tone pink design and personally I think it looks great and does attract attention and I have sent everyone who asks down to boots ... (as well as some who haven't asked as well)
If you only buy one nail varnish this year buy this as with 17 matte top coat, you are not just purchasing one bottle but doubling your entire nail varnish collection and why would you want to deprive your nail varnishes of that super hero, double life!!!!!
I've been a nail polish addict for as long as I can remember, I have lots of different colours, top coats which give different effects and even some nail art accessories. I love the smell and I love painting my nails all neat and matching, it's really satisfying. But, as I rarely have time to follow my minimal beauty regime, I usually wear polish about once a month - which really isn't very often! But I still buy bits and pieces for my nails when I'm out and about if something catches my eye.
I've been an avid fan of the fast finish 17 nail polish range from Boots, as they dry quick, quick enough to enable me to apply a quick coat and wear nail varnish a little more often. They are smaller sized bottles too, which given the infrequency with which I use them makes them perfect for me as they don't dry out or go gloopy. So, I was in Boots choosing 3 new shades (regularly on 3 for 2) and I came across the 'Nail Xtras' range; basically optional extras to maximise your polish. They had the usual top and base coats, sparkly top coat, nail whitener, French polish, etc then I spotted the 'Matte Top Coat'.
I'd read in one fashion mag or another that Matte polish was going to be 'the' look for the winter party season and I thought I'm not replacing all my lovely polishes with Matte polish just for the sake of a fashion trend, but when I saw this I thought it was definitely worth the £3.99 price tag to see if it really would transfer any polish (17 or not) to a lovely on trend Matte finish.
When I got home I applied a coat of shiny grey polish (which I'd bought at the same time), and after waiting for it to dry I applied the Matte Top Coat. You wouldn't believe how amazing it works! Instantly your nails are transformed from shiny to matte, and it dries so quickly you don't need to wait around blowing and wafting your hands about trying to get them to dry! It's really cool. The only thing you need to be careful of, is that you apply two coats of polish, as it effectively 'strips' the shiny layer of the polish back, which in turn means that if you only have one coat, it could actually strip it off and you'll have some gaps.
A really good technique is to apply it to only half of your nail on each finger, so you have half matte half shiny, particularly with dark colours, like purples, greys or darker nude shades. It looks amazing with pale colours too, really unusual over pale pearlescent pinks and corals. Another nice effect is to put a light colour over a dark base coat and apply the Matte Top Coat which pulls through the darker colour leaving a marbling effect. It's really smart. I must admit it's encouraged me to bother with my nails as I can paint them shiny one day, then matte the next without the whole drama off taking the polish off and manicuring my nails and reapplying base coat, etc.
Don't forget, leave your colour to completely dry, otherwise you will end up in a complete mess and also, whenever you've finished with the brush swipe it over a clean tissue or similar, to prevent colour bleed in to the bottle (you know like how lip gloss goes when you apply it over lipstick!).
I think for £3.99 the product is well worth it, as you get many looks for the price (and don't have to go out buying matte polishes in all the latest shades). Buying it when the 17 products are 3 for 2 and you need other bits and pieces makes it even cheaper and of course, it lasts a long time, as you would expect any nail varnish - approx 12 months depending on frequency of use and it has a 24 month shelf life if you're a sporadic user like me!
For me a good beauty product is one which is reasonably priced and does what it claims to do. I hate false promises and spending money to find something doesn't work as it should. Well this product won't let you down, it's great and I would definitely recommend it to my friends.
The product rrp is £3.99 and can be purchased from Boots stores, or online for store collect / home delivery. Highly recommended.
