“ Brand: Boots 17 / Type: Eyeliners / Suitable for: Eye „
I bought this eyeliner in brown as we were only allowed to wear very subtle makeup at the school I was at at the time (as in clear mascara subtle!) and I wanted something to bring out my eyes but not too heavy. This eyeliner was very cheap and had a small lid on to protect the nib.
I drew it along the outer corners of my bottom lashes but still had to press quite hard as the pencil was quite hard because it was so cheap. It works a little better if you rub it over your hand first so it was 'warmed up' and went on the skin smoother but still not the best. It didn't smudge easily unless I forgot I was wearing it and rubbed my eyes by accident but it still wasn't too bad because it was brown not black. It was not hard to remove either, I just washed it off at the end of the day with a cheap stores own baby wipe.
The eyeliner lasted me quite a while until it dried up and was extremely uncomfortable to use my eyes as I had to press so hard to get a decent coloured line. I have since moved on from 17 eyeliners and prefer rimmel, benefit or ysl however I would still recommend the 17 pencil as it was still fairly decent, just not the best.
I love to use eyeliner and I'm not really loyal to any brand so when I saw this in Boots for £2.89 I thought I'd give it a try. They come in a variety of blue, brown and purpley colours but I opted for the black as I feel I'm a little old now for any funky colours.
The eyeliner itself isn't much different from a crayon except that it has a plastic lid on the top to stop the eyeliner getting ruined. The colour of the eyeliner is demonstrated by the colour of the pencil so it's not hard to pick the colour that you're after.
I apply eyeliner on the inside of my upper lashes and the just under my lower lashes as opposed to right under my eyeball, if this makes sense, as I read in a magazine if you apply it below the lashes, it opens the eyes up more. It was quite easy to apple and went on smoothly. When I'd finished, my eyes looked bolder and more outline which was the effect I was hoping for.
The eyeliner isn't like a pencil textuer, it's more soft so I went through mine quite quickly. On the upside, when I've used harder kohl pencils, after they've been sharpened they can be too sharp on the eyelid, and this doesn't happen with this one.
This eyeliner lasts OK. I do tend to have fairly watery eyes for some reason, so this may be why, but I did notice that if wore off quite quickly and I did get a bit of smudging around my eyes, but only after three or four hours.
The Number 17 range is exclusive to Boots stores, but they're pretty much everywhere so they're quite easily available. If there's not a store near you, you can get them from the Boots online store.
Overall, I think this eyeliner is alright. It's not fantastic, it doesn't last paticularly long, in your make-up bag or on your eyes, but I think it's good for everyday general use. For a big night out, I would recommend a more expensive and maybe waterproof one to last longer, but other than that, for the money, it's not bad at all.
I am a huge fan of my eye liners, and as well as using liquid eye liner, I am becoming a huge fan of kohl pencils. I do not tend to stick to a particular brand of kohl eye liners, therefore when I ran out of my last one, I just picked up the Boots 17 Perfect Definition Eye Liner. The main reason was it was cheap and convenient, so I thought I would give it a go and see how I got along.
I personally only use black eye liner as I feel that coloured ones do not suit my eyes or face very well and definitely do not leave me looking flattering! I settled for the shade 'Onyx', which as you can imagine is the perfect jet black which I was after. If you are however interested in other shades, the brand offers this eye liner in a brown, green, blue and plum shade. All of these are very wearable shades and contain no glitz or glam as they are matte shades. If you are instead someone who loves wild shades of eye liners, I would recommend looking in to brands such as Barry M or Urban Decay.
The pencils come as shown in the image above and to be quite honest are nothing special as they are just simply an eye liner and do the job. They come with a protective cap on the top which helps to stop the eye liner smudging all over your make up bag, although I do tend to have a habit of losing these little caps. The pencil itself is slightly thin, however it is perfect for application.
I only apply kohl pencil eye liners to the waterline of my eye, as I feel when I apply them around the outside of my eye they smudge quite easily, therefore my purpose for purchasing this eye liner was to outline the waterline at the bottom of my eyes to help me look more awake in the morning! One thing I find often with budget eye liners is that kohl pencils just simply do nothing when applied to the water line, often giving no colour at all and if it does it seems to wear away within minutes. I can happily say that this is not such a problem with this 17 pencil. It applies evenly and smoothly on to the eyes making it particularly easy for those who do not have such a steady hand. It gives good colour, however it is not as jet black as I would perhaps like it. The staying power of this product is quite good, and even throughout the day it does stay on, however I feel that sometimes it does smudge out of place quite easily.
One thing that this eye liner is brilliant for is creating smokey eye looks. I tend to stick to quite a natural, basic look every day, although I am aware that some people really enjoy creating wild looks for nights out etc... Because this pencil is so creamy, it does mean that you can create lovely effects with it around your eyes and create a really striking look with it, meaning that the pencil is quite a versatile product and I have starting using it in this way for nights out too.
Something I must note is that as the eye liner is creamy, it does mean that it wears down a lot quicker than some of the others which I have tried in the past, and I have got through my eye liner at a quicker pace than I would have expected. Because of this, I have to ensure that I am carrying around an eye pencil sharpener as I seem to be constantly sharpening this one, so be sure you've always got your sharpener on you with this product!
If you are interested in purchasing this eye liner, it is only available from Boots or online on their website as 17 is a Boots' own brand. It retails for £2.89 which is next to nothing considering how long an eye liner lasts, and therefore I am happy to continue repurchasing this in the future as it really is such a bargain!
Overall, I am extremely impressed with this product as it creates gorgeous smokey looks as well as outlining my eyes on a budget price. Some areas do let it down but it does heaps more than I would have expected for only £2.89. Well recommended for those looking for a decent quality eye liner or a tight budget!
This is, to me, the perfect eyeliner. I won't go into too much detail, because in my eyes this is simple! If you have any questions please let me know and I will add them to the review.
Cheap: This eyeliner works out at around £3, this is beacuse Boots 17 make up is very frequently on a 3 for 2 offer. It is worth buying three bits, it works out very economical.
Value for money: This eyeliner lasts years! I use it about four times a week and it lasts well over a year.
Ease of use: The eyeliner is very soft kohl, which means it glides on very easily and gives a moist strong effect without drying out your eyes.
Long lasting: The eyeliner often lasts all day or night, at the most I reapply once.
Easy to remove: comes off easily with make up remover / cleanser. Doesn't leave irritated or dry skin.
I honestly don't have a single downside to this eyeliner. It is really great and even more expensive brands I have used haven't lived up to this one.
Recently I purchased one of these eye liner pencils from Boots. I thought it was a really good bargain, costing only £2.99, as well as being part of a 3 for 2 offer. The colour I chose was black, the reason I decided to go for this colour I suppose is probably just because I prefer the look of black liner on my eyes than any other colour. Also I haven't had any black liner for a while as I recently ran out of my old one, and lost another one I had. So these are my reasons for buying this product.
When I got this the 17 range wasn't a range that I was particularly familiar with. At the same time as buying this I picked up a few other items from the range, including a nail polish that I have previously reviewed, but before buying these apart from trying their lip gloss I had never really come across the range that much before.
I suppose because I had always thought of it as a cheaper version of the No7 range, that wouldn't be anywhere near as good.
So was my first impression of the range right or wrong?
Well actually I don't think I could have been more wrong. So far I have loved everything I have tried in the range. Yes, it is cheaper than the No7 range, but the quality seems just as good to me. Its perfect for me, a teenage girl obsessed with make up. I would definitely recommend it.
This eye liner itself fits into this description exactly. It is just like a standard pencil liner, it isn't retractable so you do have to sharpen it which I suppose can be a pain sometimes when it gets blunt. But considering this was only £2.99 - and part of a 3 for 2 offer - I just can't complain. It works perfectly for me, although it isn't completely waterproof it doesn't smudge off or anything and at the end of the day is easy to remove using make up wipes, or cotton wool and make up remover. I really love this and would absolutely recommend it :)
