17 Photo Flawless mascara
Advantages: Great brush for longer lashes, doesn't clump and it's a nice little bottle that looks smart.
Disadvantages: No colour tint, liquid is quite sticky and hard to remove mistakes
Generally, all my cosmetics are Miss Sporty or Collection 2000. I'm a classy bird! But seriously, I don't have a lot of spare cash and I wear make up about twice a week when I'm not working so spending loads on a named brand is not something I'd willingly do.
Whilst Boots 17 brand is not massively over expensive, as I've explained, spending £6 on a mascara that I've never used before is a big reach for me. Luckily, due to a till error, I managed to get this mascara, a Boots meal deal AND a silver eyeshadow (also 17 brand) for just £5.50. I would've been happy to pay full price for it though - and it certainly looks the business. Whilst the pot is quite short, and smaller than other mascaras, it seems to rely on the idea that 'the best things come in the smallest packages'.
Part of what attracted me to this mascara is the brush. The brush is nice and thick, which works well with my long but wide apart lashes. For those with shorter, more close together lashes, I don't think this would work as well. It has a curve in which is meant to help your eyelashes to curl but to be honest I don't think I've ever seen a mascara do that. Whilst it's not the best brush I've ever used, it gets good coverage and it doesn't clump too badly. The liquid is quite sticky, and hard to remove if you smudge it, so be careful! It can ruin your entire eye make up if you get a bit over enthusiastic.
The biggest selling point of this mascara is that it's meant to have a different tint to it. Mine is 'black copper'; though you wouldn't be able to tell! There is literally no brown or copper colouring to the mascara liquid at all. I've heard that the blue and green ones are stronger, so maybe it's just a problem with brown? Who knows. I was incredibly disappointed by this as although I didn't expect a full on colour difference, I was hoping for a subtle coppery shimmer underneath the black, which I didn't get. I don't really see the point of the 'photo flawless' tagline - it made my eyelashes look no different or more 'WOW!' than any other mascara, and certainly no different to my £3 Collection 2000 one.
Overall, I wasn't thrilled. The good points are that the brush is good at fanning out my lashes and doesn't clump them too badly; the bad points are that the liquid is hard to remove if you make a mistake and there's no promised copper tint to it. If it was cheaper I'd be willing to buy the other two shades to try them out, but not at £6 a go - even if I do get Boots points.
Summary: If you have money then it's a decent little mascara, but if you live on a budget like I do avoid!
