Advantages: Works well
Disadvantages: Is hard to blend
Needing a new foundation really fills me with dread. It's fair to say that I have cosmetics like you wouldn't believe cos I can't stop buying them but foundation is very much a product I loathe to buy cos I find I need it but I never get the colour or formula right on my incredibly pale skin! I've tried so many brands and colours etc and never really got it right which is not good news considering I'm almost 35 years old lol! So the other day whilst in town I popped (as usual) into Boots and decided on trying this formulation purely because as I was perusing the stands and I saw 4 girls in 5 minutes flat buy themselves a bottle of this and I hadn't seen it happen with any other foundations in Boots in front my eyes so fast so to me I thought maybe they knew best and I'd take the tip from them! At £5.37 a bottle it seemed cheap as well for a shine free type of foundation and besides which it meant I got a wicked free gift thrown in ta boot lol.
The Packaging
See through 30ml cylinder shaped bottle with dark grey integrated push button dispenser to the top of it and a black large safety lid that pulls on and off that. On the front of the bottle I'm told it is '17' Skin Perfecting Shine-Free Foundation and that it contains SPF 12. There is also a colour coded small round peel off label which is colour coded to what you have in your bottle and the colour is stated on that (which in my case is soft ivory). On the back of the bottle I'm told a bit about the product, ingredients are listed, contact details for Boots are given and finally the size and bar-code is displayed. The cylinder shape is nice enough and I do like being able to see through it so I can gauge when I need another one and a real bug bear of mine is the writing coming off on products making them look tatty and the writing on this doesn't appear to do that even when stored with other cosmetics so it stays looking in good condition!
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle....
A flawless shine-free finish that lasts for up to 12 hours. Non-pore blocking and oil-free. Dermatologically tested. Fragrance-free.
Using It....
This is a really brilliant foundation but it does take some getting used to using. I don't know about you ladies but usually I put on some moisturiser or/and foundation base on my face first and let that dry in and then splodge some foundation in which contains some sort of grease and/or animal fat and rub for England and pray for decent results! With this it's slightly different to that.
If you do use moisturiser it's best to apply this when the skin is still damp in my opinion to make it easier to blend. It's best applied with fingertips because if you use say a cosmetic sponge it gets absorbed into it and so not much gets smeared onto the skin!
The reason I say it takes some getting used to is because it is (as we are told on the bottle) an oil free formula which means its quite stodgy. I don't mean thick as such as it really isn't but to get the best results less is more and your best to make small dots on the face with it and gently blend said dots together. It doesn't particularly smell of anything but pick the right colour it blends with difficulty but with amazing results....
Shine is gone and if you don't want to you really don't need to use a press/loose powder to 'set' this or evaporate shine over the top of it. This is just as well cos I went to stay at my bf's and dropped my pressed powder on route which of course smashed and I lost the lot and all I could think of was oh no I'm going to be a shiny mess without it and there were no shops open and we were going out!
This however saved the day because not only did I put it on and it got rid of shine beautifully I really couldn't see it or smell it on my face, I felt less caked in make-up and far more natural looking than usual! It really perked my complection up and gave me a fresh, natural glow and I couldn't stop looking in the mirror! It just seemed to smooth and soften my face, irridicate shine, give me an even complection and it was simple to continue with other make up over the top of it.
When it came to removing it, it just took my usual make-up removal routine (nothing special) and I can report no spots or irritation seem to have appeared in the couple of weeks I've been using this!
Verdict....
A must be for grease monkey girls! Sure it takes a little bit of getting used to on the consistency front but this is a really great product that gives quality results time and time again on a budget! I shall definitely buy this time and time again because basically it's just all round great!
Only available in Boots in six different shades.
