17 Solo Eyeshadow
Advantages: Easy to apply, nice coverage that lasts
Disadvantages: Very shiny
I do not wear loads of make-up but I also feel pretty naked leaving the house without any on at all so I tend to opt for quite a natural look although as I am getting older I do find that achieving a natural look takes a lot more effort that it used to!
One of my current favourites is a Boots 17 Solo Eye-shadow. I have Mardis Gras which is a metallic beige/brown colour. The pot was £3.49 which seemed cheap to me for a reasonable sized pot. I tend to associate 17 with youngsters so I am not sure what made me buy this one in the first place.
This pressed eye-shadow is supplied in a dark grey pot with a clear lid so it is easy to see the colour both when selecting in store and also when grabbing it rapidly out of my make-up bag in the mornings. The 3.5cm diameter pot is easy to unscrew and contains a generous amount of the shadow, I have ripped off the paper details from mine so I am not sure of the amount. The lid is very secure even if not screwed back on tightly and I have never had any problems of the top coming of by accident.
The shadow does not come with any applicator so I apply mine with an eye shadow brush as I prefer brushes over sponge applicators. I find that it only takes a light sweep across the surface of the pot for the brush to pick up enough product. I have tried cheap eye-shadows in the past where you have really had to work at the surface to get shadow on the brush but this one is perfect.
The shadow transfers to the eye-lid very smoothly and instantly gave quite a lot of colour. I was quite surprised by the even coverage, I expected it to be thinner and patchier but it felt like I was applying a much more expensive product. The colour was shinier than I had expected however and I had visions of lots of metallic powder collecting in my creases and crow's-feet by the end of the day but I decided to persevere as I likely the mink-type colour that this produced on my eye-lids.
I was amazed at the staying power of this eye shadow. When I returned home from work the colour still looked true and it had not formed crease-lines across my lids at all. The shadow was easy to remove with cleansing wipes at the end of the day.
I have been pleasantly surprised by this little pot of colour. Although it is a little shinier than I would have preferred I have now used nearly the whole pot as I love the colour and the longevity. I have bought a couple of other products which were more expensive but I keep coming back to this Solo shadow due to its ease of application and the fact that I know it won't need touching up throughout the day. 17 do over 15 shades in this range so I will certainly be having a look at some of the others, they seem to range from young and vibrant through to matte nudes so I am certain there will be something for everyone and at the bargain price and Advantage card points too I would certainly recommend trying them.
Summary: A great value eye-shadow
