Advantages: Low price, thick creamy texture, hides marks and blemishes, pump action bottle
Disadvantages: Slightly shiny, may need some blusher
~~What is it?~~
Basically what it "says on the tin"! It is a thick, long-lasting foundation, designed to last all day and hide all blemishes.
~~What you get...~~
The foundation comes in a rather minimalist style bottle with matching lid in navy blue. The bottle is pump action and holds 30ml. The front has subtle but eye catching silver writing with a brief description and the name. A small flesh coloured circle tells you the shade of the contents.
~~Price~~
Currently on boots.com it is being sold at £5.49 per bottle, with a special offer of a free gift if you spend more than £6.00 on Boots17 make-up.
~~Is it any good?~~
Well, although I am not the most girly of girls, one thing I cannot go out without wearing is my foundation - I have an unsightly skin condition that comes and goes and prefer to still have the confidence to leave the house every day rather than hide!
Since I was about 21 years of age, Boots17 seemed to be the only brand that consistently provided a foundation that is thick yet natural looking. This particular range is no exception, it wins hands down in ease of application, how long it lasts, how good it looks and for value.
Being free from mineral oil also means you are less likely to break out in spots after using it.
~~The texture~~
The texture is thick and creamy, I applied it with a brush and it sat on the surface of the bristles without dripping or soaking in. The feel of it against your skin is pleasant and does not feel abrasive.
~~The smell~~
It is fragrance-free which was another selling point for me as it is one less thing to irritate my skin. However, do not fear, it still smells fairly neutral. I asked my partner if he could notice any smell on my face and he said none.
~~The coverage~~
The coverage of blemishes is heavy. For me, this is perfect. As you apply the make-up, a small amount covers a large area and you can see blemishes vanish before your eyes. It seems to be particularly good at evening out redness, which almost removes the need for any colour correction fluid (which can often be oily).
~~The finish~~
After applying, your skintone looks more even, less blemished, and healthier. The only downsides to it that I can think of are that: a.) it leaves the surface looking fairly shiny, in the daytime this is usually okay but at night a light dusting of powder would be advisable as I have noticed photos of me in the evening with a flash have left me rather reflective! b.) as it is so effective at reducing redness, you may find a light dusting of blusher is needed to give a little more variation in colour, although that is a personal preference and some people prefer the more dramatic look.
Summary: A great gem of a product that no make-up bag should be without.
