“ Brand: Boots 17 / Type: Eyeliners / Suitable for: Eye „
I don't nomally buy sparkly products, it's just not me, I am not a glittery type of girl! However it was nearing Christmas 2009 and I was getting in the party spirit. This eyeliner was £3.99 and it was three for two in Boots. It was also £10 of bonus boots points when you spent £50, so I was stocking up on bargains whilst I was in the store to make the most of it. I thought I would give this Tinsel and Tiara's eyeliner a go, in the black shade, and I have to admit the name did win me over just a little bit.
The eyeliner is a liquid eyeliner which comes in a black plastic tube, not clear, with a silver twist on and off lid. It is decorated quite in the party spirit, but not quite as classy as other 17 brand products.
The eyeliner is easy to screw up and unscrew and is secure once the seal has been broken. The last thing anyone needs is the eyeliner leaking all over your make up bag (that is a horrible experience which takes hours to clean up, and you can never seem to manage to clear it all!).
The eyeliner is applied by a very thin brush made up of multiple bristles. It is quite easy to apply at the right thinness or thickness and with accuracy, but if you are not experienced at applying eyeliner you will need a couple of practises first. If I make small mistakes I often touch up with a cotton bud.
I find that when you apply this eyeliner you should hold your eyes open for about thirty seconds until it has completely dried as otheriwse you end up with an imprint just below your eyebrow and it damages to actual eyeliner where you have put it.
When this eyeliner starts to run out it is a bit patchy when you apply it so does need a couple of coats which can be frustrating, but a lot of eyeliners are like this.
I see this as a fun product, for Christmas, parties and fancy dress, but nothing really more. It isn't the sort of thing I would buy over and over again as a staple product.
According to the packaging this is "Sparkling eyeliner for party perfect eyes" and it's also limited edition.
I am reviewing the 'Dancing Shoes' (black/grey) shade although you can also get shades called 'Mirror Ball' (a silvery colour) and 'Belle of the Ball' (purple).
They are currently selling for £3.99 each and all Boots 17 products are on 3 for 2 at the moment. If you have a Boots Advantage Card you'll earn yourself 12 points by purchasing one of these.
I bought the 'Dancing Shoes' eyeliner because I wanted some glittery eyeliner for the Christmas season but I think I only wore this twice because it was disappointing.
It's very easy to apply: it's a liquid eyeliner that uses a little brush to apply to the eyelids. However it goes on very patchy with some parts looking darker than others so you have to apply several coats to get an even finish. Even though it looks like black eyeliner it's not very dark either, it's more of a grey colour when it goes on but the glitter looks good.
The worst thing about this eyeliner though is that it doesn't stay in place! Within a few minutes of applying I have glitter in my eye, ouch! My eyeballs aren't very sensitive (they're used to getting make-up all over them!) however this eyeliner made my eyes feel very sore because of the scratchy glitter pieces. So when I came to putting some on my eyes on the second occasion I had two choices: put it on lightly but then no-one would be able to see it or slap it on thickly so it could be seen but risk having tender eyes all evening!
Since Christmas though I have now discovered the best way to wear it: apply your black eyeliner as usual then put some of this over the top to add a glittery effect, keep your eyes wide open for about 30 seconds to allow it to dry to prevent too much glitter getting in your eyes!
I will continue to use this eyeliner in the way I've described but only for special occasions, it's not worth the hassle! I know I definitely won't be buying it again and I'd even think twice about buying any sort of glittery eyeliner in the future.
I needed a purple eyeliner to complete my look for going out on Xmas Eve, I looked everywhere but couldn't find one I really liked the look of. Even the purple eyeliners that were OUT of my price range looked mega cheap and tacky when applied so I sort of resigned myself to buying yet another black or blue eyeliner.
Then when I went into Boots a display of 17 Limited Edition products caught my eye and immediately I spotted an eyeliner that looked like it would be the exact colour I was looking for. It is called Belle Of The Ball and is part of Boots 17 Tinsel And Tiaras range that has been specially released for Xmas 2009.
This is a gorgeous eyeliner and even though it's my dads 40th birthday tomorrow I'm still going to get him to drive me to the Boots store I found these eyeliners in so I can buy some more!!! Happy birthday, dad! LOL
Belle Of The Ball is a deep plum colour that is bursting with glittery particles. This is a liquid eyeliner but the brush is very easy to use and the bristles are well compacted so that you can get a nice tidy line without too much stress.
The eyeliner itself is just the right consistency, it's smooth and dead nice to apply. When you get the eyeliner on the brush you might worry because the glitter makes the liquid look proper bulky, this isn't the case though and it must be some sort of weird optical illusion because you can't feel the glitter on your eyelids either when you're applying it or afterwards.
The staying power of this eyeliner is brill. On Xmas Eve I had a bit too much to drink and ended up leaving my make up on all night while I slept, the next morning the rest of my make up had either disappeared or smudged madly but I still had a lovely tidy line of eyeliner on my eyelids!!! It would have looked cool if the rest of my face wasn't such a hangover green colour! lol
I absolutely LOVE this eyeliner. The glitter makes it shimmer in the light rather than it being an in-yer-face-look-how-glittery-I-am effect, I didn't feel overdone at all which can sometimes happen when I use particularly glittery or shiny eyeliners. Also I thought it laid nice and light on my eyelids, again this is something that bugs me with glittery eye make up of any kind because this type can very often feel too heavy as the night goes on.
I paid £3.99 for the eyeliner and can't quite believe how cheap that is, I'd put aside £10.00 for my Xmas eyeliner so to get one much less than half price is madness..... But I LIKE madness in this case!!!
***THE 17 BRAND***
The 17 brand is made by Boots so is only available in Boots stores. The 17 range is a large range of cosmetics and make up accessories including foundation, eye-liners, eye shadows, mascara, bronzers, nail varnish, false eye lashes, make up brushes, powder and more. This range is a good quality range and is affordable and much cheaper than compared to other well known brands such as Maybelline and L'Oreal.
***TINSEL AND TIARAS EYELINERS***
This special range of eye-liners is available for a limited period only and comes in 3 great colours including Dancing shoes which is black with silver sparkles. Mirror Ball which is a silver coloured eye-liner with silver sparkles and Belle of the Ball which is a deep purple colour and also has silver sparkles in it as well.
These liquid eye-liners are limited edition for the festive season and cost £3.99 each which I think is very reasonable.
Limited Edition nail varnishes to go with the liquid eyeliners are also available in 3 different shades which match the colour of the eyeliners. The nail varnish cost's £2.99 per pot. The nail varnishes shades also have added silver sparkles to them as well.
***DANCING SHOES EYELINER***
I often use black pencil liner to line my eyes and occasionally I do use a liquid eye-liner when hitting the town. When I saw this black sparkly eye-liner I thought I would give it a try as it would look great during the festive season and for night's out as well. The eye-liner tube itself is quite small and you can see the small silver sparkles inside the tube missed in with the black eye-liner.
The lid to the eye-liner is silver and just simply screws off to reveal a nice thin brush to apply the liner along the eye-lid or where-ever you which to apply it. I applied this to the top of my lash line on my eye-lid and it glided on easily and neatly. The fine brush makes applying the eye-liner simple and easy without any mess. The liner only took a short while to try and when it was completely dry you could see the silver sparkles which made my eye's stand out and look festive and glamorous.
This eye-liner does stay on for quite a while, but you may need to apply it once again through-out the night if you are wearing this for s party or special occasion as it does tend to fade after a while. The eye-liner didn't smudge and didn't irritate my eye's which is good as I suffer from sensitive eyes occasionally but this was kind to my eyes.
I would definitely buy this eye-liner again and I am quite gutted that this is only out for a limited period only. I'm yet to use the nail varnish yet but I bet this looks great with the eye-liner, especially with the added sparkle as well. You could easily use this for nights out as well as looking glam for the festive season as well. I might be tempted to try the other colours in this range but seeing as I wear black-eye liner a lot this colour would be my top choice. I would highly recommend this eye-liner for a glam look at an affordable price.
