Advantages: Cheap as chips

Disadvantages: Creases quickly

*Introduction*

I bought this eye shadow following an attempt to spend less money on make-up. I worked out how much I was spending on make up and it horrified me if I'm honest.

*The Claim*

They come in a range of colours for attention grabbing eyes.

*About the Product*

17 Trio Eye Shadows are a perfect way to create your look from one pot. The colours can be used together or work separately.

*Application*

These eye shadows don't come with a make up applicator so the first thing that you will need to do is find one that you already have or buy one to apply the shadows with.

The set that I have has a light base colour, a medium colour and a darker, bolder one. It depends on how many of the shades that you intend on using as to the application of the eye shadow.

For one colour: Sweep the colour that you have chosen to use across your eyelid.

For two colours: Sweep the base colour across your eyelid from the top of your eyebrow to your lashes. With the second colour, you should then use an applicator/brush to apply it on the lower part of the lid.

For three colours: Repeat the same steps as above but apply the second colour slightly higher than just your lower lid. Then add the third colour on the lower part of your lid. This will create a more intense and dramatic look and the base colour will be acting as more of a highlighter than an eye shadow, making your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Whether you use one colour, two colours or all three together, the looks you can achieve are great and with minimal effort as they blend together so easily but are equally as effective on their own.

*Availability and Price*

Boots 17 Trio Eye Shadows are available to buy solely from Boots stores. If you don't have a store local to you but you are desperate to get you're hands on this reasonably priced little set, you can buy it online at www.boots.com.

And if this is a product that you are interested in buying, then you will be thrilled to hear that it is currently retailing at £4.88. Compared to the amount of money that I have spent on numerous Clinique, Chanel and Mac eye shadows this product is extremely cheap and although not a fantastic product, it is good value for money and I think if you bought it, you would be relatively happy with your purchase. It isn't the best quality eye shadow set available to buy or the longest lasting, but considering the price, you will probably be pleased.

*My Opinion*

The packaging: Unfortunately 17 didn't put a lot of thought into the packaging of this product as it is fairly plain and in all honesty, boring. It is a round, grey plastic pot that is split into three different parts which hold the eye shadows. The lid of this is clear and screws on and off for use. I like the fact that you can see the colours clearly but overall the packaging is cheap and cheerful and could do with jazzing up a little if you ask me.

Texture and colour: The texture of these eye shadows is a little on the thin side which unfortunately leads to creasing on the eyelids throughout the day, especially if you have greasy eyelids like myself. If you don't mind reapplying the shadows, then you will be more than happy with this product but as I don't get the opportunity to do this, I find the shadows a little frustrating. On a positive note is that they glide onto your lids easily when applied and the fact that they aren't overly enduring means that the eye shadow is very easy to remove with pretty much any wipe or make up remover. The colour of the eyeshadows is not fantastic. The pigments are not deep and therefore require you layer the colour several times in order to make the shadow effective.

Staying power: Unfortunately the thinness of the texture means that the staying power of these eye shadows is somewhat poor. It also means that the eye shadow gains creases within a matter of two hours which is rather disappointing.

Longevity of the product: A 17 Trio Eye Shadow palette will probably last you a maximum of two months if used regularly due to the amount of layers that you will need to apply. This is average but for £5 I suppose you aren't going to expect it last you for months on end.

Range of colours: There are 8 different sets that you can buy from the number 17 Trio Eye Shadow range and they are put together in groups of colours that work perfectly together so you don't even need to think about what colours go together. 17 do the hard work for you. The collection that I have is called 'Purple Heart' although I have also pinched my mums on occasion, a brown set called 'In the nude'. Both of the sets work fantastically with each colour complementing the other.

*Would I Recommend This Product?*

For the money, I would probably recommend this product. Be under no illusion that it compares to eye shadows by Dior or Clinique but as you aren't paying those prices you shouldn't be surprised. And if you are looking for an eye shadow that will last the duration of a day, then unfortunately you will be left bitterly disappointed. But this eye shadow collection is cheaper than the ones that I usually buy and they do a more than adequate job of brightening up my eyes for a number of different looks with just one set. Even if it is just temporarily.

I would also recommend it as a great product to buy if you are looking for a selection of colours before pay day when you can't afford to splurge out on brands like Chanel or Clinique. Or if you just don't like to spend a large amount of money on cosmetics.

*Overall*

17 Trio Eye Shadows are a great budget buy eye shadow collection that allow you to create a number of varying looks with the hard work of deciding which colours go well together already done for you. It is not my favourite eye shadow as it isn't overly enduring but I would definitely consider buying it again when money is tight as it is relatively cheap. When money is tight, I will be turning to Boots 17 Trio Eye Shadows again but if I have money to spend, I can guarantee you it will be on more luxurious eye shadows.

Summary: A cheap and cheerful eye shadow collection
