I was originally pointed in the direction of these glosses by a magazine which was picking out some of the best high-end makeup items and then suggesting more realistic alternatives for us not so wealthy shoppers. Now this was a while ago so I'm afraid I can't tell you what this was suggested as an alternative for.

This is made by Boots' own makeup range 17 which sits above Natural Collection and below No.7. The packaging for this gloss is nothing special. Most of the bottom is clear so you can see what colour you've got and the top is dark grey. When you unscrew the grey lid you will find a sponge style wand applicator. I'm glad they used the sponge type which I find more accurate than the brush style.

It's very easy to apply and importantly doesn't feel sticky. This is probably because it is so thin. Generally the thicker the gloss the stickier. However this doesn't feel that different from having a lipblam on. The downside to this though is that you don't get a lot of colour showing up. The shade I got is called Star Girl, a light to medium pink. However on the lips the pink is isn't that noticeable and I notice the shimmer more though that's not to say the shimmer is over the top because it's not. I'd also like to bring into question the 'ultimate volume' claim. I couldn't see the slightest bit of difference in that department especially seeing as it's so thin. The lasting power is much the same as other glosses and wears of in a couple of hours.

This costs £3.71 and contains 8ml. I think there are about ten shades to choose from and though it doesn't live up to the claims on the bottle it's a good basic gloss and a good choice for teenagers and the like who may not have the money to move to more expensive brands.

Summary: A good failsafe if nothing special
