Advantages: Hydrates lips if they're not too dry, smells pleasant, is hygienic to use.
Disadvantages: Doesn't work too well on very dry lips.
I actually had no plans to buy this product, or any lip product at all, but on a visit to Boots a few months ago I had a £10 voucher to spend but could only find things that I needed worth £9, and as I didn't want to waste that last £1 I added this to my basket as it costs around £1. Also, all of my lip balms come in pots and I wanted a lip product that I could use on the go, when it is not hygienic to poke your fingers around in a lip balm pot. There are 4 varieties available-Original, Spearmint, Tinted and Strawberry. I chose Strawberry because I am a huge fan of strawberry flavoured products.
The lip salve is about the same size as a lipstick and comes in a plastic twist-up tube. The lid is pink and clicks on to the tube quite firmly so you can carry this around in your bag without worrying about the lid coming off. The base of the lip salve which you have to twist to get the lip salve to appear is white. The lip salve is quite light and the packaging is decent enough.
The Lip Salve
As you twist the base of the tube, the lip salve appears. It is white in colour and appears to be a little waxy. It smells faintly of strawberries, and the scent is quite lovely and delicate. It applies colourless, so you can't really see it on your lips, but it does make your lips look smoother. It does feel a little waxy on my lips though, but I think that is what gives it its moisturising properties. It doesn't really taste like anything to me, and so I am not tempted to lick it all off. The lip salve feels very soothing on chapped lips and if my lips are not very dry, I just apply it once in the morning and once at night and my lips stay moisturised and soft. However, if my lips are very dry, then it is not as effective, and rather than applying this every few hours, I just tend to use petroleum jelly. The lasting power is really good. If I apply it at night, I can still feel it on my lips in the morning and my lips feel very hydrated. During the day you will need to reapply after eating or drinking, although like I said, if my lips are not very dry, just once a day is enough for me.
Price and Availability
As this is a Boots own brand product, it is only available to buy at Boots, in store or online at www.boots.com. It costs £1.01 which I think is an excellent price as this lip salve lasts for ages. I have had mine for 2-3 months now and use it daily and I haven't even used up half of it.
I think for the price, this is a brilliant product. It moisturises my lips well when they are not exceptionally dry and is hygienic to use as you do not have to dab your finger in a pot. It is compact and easy to carry around and feels very soothing when applied over chapped lips. However, if your lips are exceptionally dry, this lip salve will not be enough for them, and I would recommend you use a different product.
