Advantages: nice effect, good range of colours, cheap
Disadvantages: colour needs to be built up, doesn't last too long
I tend to buy a lot of cheap cosmetics, mainly to play around with, but also with the hope that I might find a miracle product for less than £5 in the process! I bought a natural collection eyeshadow duo because I wanted to try a smokey eye effect, but didn't want to spend a fortune on products in case it ended up looking rubbish on me.
~About the product~
This is basically two eye shadow colours in one pot. The natural collection eye shadow duos come in a range of colours. I'm not entirely sure how many are available all together, but there are five shown on the Boots website currently. The one I have is called starlight/midnight and is a light grey and a dark grey (almost black) colour.
~Packaging~
The shadows come in a white plastic pot with a clear screw top lid featuring the natural collection logo. There are equal amounts of each eye shadow. No applicator is included, however I don't necessarily think that this is a bad thing because the free applicators you get with eye shadows are not usually all that good.
~Using it~
The powder is very easy to apply - I find that it stays on the brush rather than falling all over your cheeks which is good. You do need to apply quite a lot of powder to build up the colour, even with the darker shade.
I have also been using the dark shade as eyeliner by dipping a damp eyeliner brush into the darker shade, and drawing a line along the base of my lashes.
~Results~
The two colours worked well together to create a soft smoky effect. As I said you need to apply quite a bit of powder to build up the colour, as the colour is a lot more muted when it goes on, than it looks in the tub.
Despite the fact you need to use a lot of powder, it still gives a soft powdery look, rather than looking heavy or caked on. I have also used the darker colour as an eyeliner, by dipping a damp eye liner brush into the powder and drawing a line with it, which not only gives a nice, soft line, but also intensifies the colour a bit.
As for staying power, this is OK, but I did find that it creased within a couple of hours, and needed to be re-applied, which is a bit of an annoyance.
~Price~
These cost just £1.99 and are only available from Boots.
~Conclusion~
These are OK, once applied they give a nice look, and they are really cheap, so great if you want to play around experimenting with colours. The main downsides are that you need a lot of powder to build up the colour, and also that they don't last too long, but mainly I would say that for the price, they are fairly good.
