When it comes to my eyelashes, I like big and bold mascara, but my usual mascara by Maybelline is nearly £8, and I wanted to try something cheaper for a change, because its just ridiculous to fork out nearly a tenner for mascara! Natural Collection by Boots is quite a reliable brand on the whole, and usually cheap! I thought I''''d give the mascara a try, and for only £1.99 it''''s not expensive, so I thought it doesn''''t really matter if I don''''t like it (it''''s usually on offer too, at the moment it''''s 3 for £5). I actually bought the brown mascara by mistake, so I will be reviewing that.
The packaging is plain white, with the natural collection symbol in the middle. It is a reasonably tall tube, about the size of a normal ball-point pen, but it still fits in my make-up bag easily. The wand itself is quite thin, and the brush is made from the fairly standard bristles. I usually prefer rubber brushes rather than ones with bristles, however I''''ve found that this one gives even coverage and doesn''''t clump. Although the coverage is good, it''''s quite thin and so it isn''''t high impact. It probably doesn''''t help that I bought the brown one, as I imagine the black version would be a bit more noticeable. Being blonde, the brown mascara does look more natural, which I actually quite like if I''''m going for an ''''eau naturelle'''' look. It has also lasted longer than I expected, although it has started to become a bit duller, but that happens to ever mascara so it is expected. In terms of lash length, I wouldn''''t really say I noticed a difference. There are definitely better brands on the market which boost the length of your lashes, but you need to pay a bit extra.
I tend only to use this mascara during the day as it is more subtle. For on a night, I still prefer bolder mascara, as I think strong eyelashes look better when you have eye-shadow on. If you''''re looking for a mascara that says "wow" I wouldn''''t really recommend this brand, however for an understated, every day look, this mascara is perfect. And since it is only £1.99, it means that your every day mascara is cheap to replace regularly, and you can save the more expensive mascaras for special occasions!
This was my regular mascara as a teenager and occasionally when I am short of cash I go back to it here are my thoughts.
I really love the way this looks. This is jus a white plastic tube with the natural collection symbol in black on the side. The cap is also white and the wand is inside this. There is a small label at the bottom describing the colour. This package looks really classic and looks quite a lot like some other branded mascara that is much more expensive.
The small issue with it being white is that it can get dirty very easily, but a quick wipe with a baby wipe soon solves this.
I buy this in black and unlike other cheap mascaras this actually comes out black. This goes on the lashes really easily a d is quick to dry. There is a small issue as it means that multiple layers can't be applied unless done very quickly, at least it means it doesn't smear on my glasses.
This meant to lengthen and it does, but not only that it curls. It creates a much better curl in fact than some more expensive mascaras and there is no need to use an eyelash curler. The lashes do not clump together with and although it doesn't separate the lashes quite the way I like but it does a fair job.
The only issue with this is that it flakes throughout the day - and much more so when hot and it certainly isn't waterproof, but then again it isn't described as this so I won't mark it down.
This really is a great mascara for the price.
Price and Availability
This is sold in Boots on the high street and also online too, this costs just £1.99,which is an amazing price for any mascara let alone one that actually works this well. This may not be my first choice but for this price I would definitely recommend it.
Since I have to change my mascara every 3 months anyway, I don't want to spend a lot on it, thus I am always on the hunt for cheap and good mascaras. At £1.99, I decided to try this as this is probably one of the cheapest mascaras on the market and I do find the brand has some quite good stuffs.
This comes in Brown and Black and I picked up the Black one. It has no fancy packaging, but gives a rather simple and clean look. The wand and brush are pretty standard and it also has no particular smell to it. The formula is pretty standard too, not to thick, not too thin either and it does not look clumpy on the brush.
The mascara applies nicely to the lashes, it does not take too long to dry. It gives a good black colour to the lashes and also does a good job at separating them. Therefore, the mascara leaves nice, lengthened but natural look lashes. I have straight lashes and I find it does not hold curls very well. After 3,4 hours, I start to see a little bit smudging underneath my eyes, since I have quite oily eyelids (that happens to me with a lot of mascaras.)
Don't expect amazing lashes with this mascara, it does not add a lot of volume. For an everyday mascara, it is good, especially if you wear quite minimal make-up. A bonus point is that it does not irritate my eyes like a lot of other mascaras I have tried, even if I wear it for 8 hours+. My eyes are so sensitive that a long of mascaras hurt them quite a bit.
This mascara can be wiped off easily with just watered cotton pads.
I do like it cause it is cheap and it does the job, but if you expect some false lashes effect, this is not for you. I only wear this if I am out for only a few hours. But if you stay out for a whole day or on a night out, I don't think this is appropriate. For the price, I will give it a 4-star rating. For those with less oily eyelids, I definitely think it will last longer.
One day a few months ago, I discovered when I went to the ladies not long after I got to work that I had forgotten to put mascara on. In the heat of the moment and getting the kids out in the morning I am not surprised this happened, however It did look a bit strange, if only to me wearing eye shadow and no mascara.
I have light eye lashes so always wear mascara. I do wear my make-up quite subtly, so it may not be totally obviously to others, however without my make-up added in my routine manner, foundation (during the winter only), then powder, then brown natural eye shadow then mascara I feel a bit bare.
I couldn't go round all day feeling like this so went to Boots which is opposite my office to get some mascara. I didn't want to pay a lot so got Boots Natural Collection one in brown for £1.99. I used my Boots points to pay for it. I use Natural Collection eye shadow so felt ok about buying the mascara too.
Actually for £1.99 I really liked it and am now using this mascara all the time since my more expensive one ran out. The bristles on the brush are quite widely placed and I find that the mascara is applied evenly without any clumpy bits. The mascara isn't waterproof, I never use waterproof as I hate getting it off, but I have never found it runs or smudges onto my skin around my eyes. The brown is a medium darkness, I usually use brown or brown/black so not it is not too stark against my skin tone.
When opening the mascara and taking the brush out the mascara comes out on the brush evenly and I find I can do both upper and then lower eyelids from just taking the brush out of the tube once. My mascaras do tend to last a long time, perhaps around a year. This mascara washes off very easily with face wash and water, which I like, I can't stand using make up removers as I find they can make my eyes sore.
I far as i am aware this mascara comes in just the two colours, brown and black. If they did brown/black this would be good, although for £1.99 I don't think I can grumble. I really like this mascara and I actually think it applies more evenly and looks nicer than the expensive one I was usinga error which cost around £12! I will definately be buying it again!
I decided to try this mascara after reading reviews on Doo Yoo. At £2 a tube it thought it was worth a try (I have spent more on a magazine!)
There are three different Natural Collection mascaras, lash lengthening, lash curling and waterproof. My lashes are a little on the short side so I thought I would give the lash lengthening a try. There are three colours, brown, black or black brown.
I love dark dramatic black looks so I bought the black mascara.
I have to say I was very pleased with the results!
The mascara itself comes in a plain but stylish white tube with black writing. The tube is of reasonably standard size and unscrews easily to reveal a nice strong wand with strong bristles. The wand is easily gripped and the bristles are closely together but small therefore easy to get onto even your small lashes.
The mascara produces well defined dark lashes. Once dried its smudge proof and gives a nice lengthen-ed look. I found it to be reasonably waterproof (I sometimes suffer from slightly watery eyes and with the wrong mascara I can look like a panda but had no such problems with this one). The mascara lasted for a few hours and is easy to remove using eye make up remover.
I am very impressed with this low price mascara!
I brought this mascara because there was an offer 3 for £5 on all Boots Natural Collection make up items. Plus it was the first time buying my own make up so I didn't want to pay too much just in case I don't like the feeling of wearing mascara.
It's a simple design, nothing fancy. It's white with brown writing "natural collection" through a ring of petals. It's cute for newbies to the make up world and looks quite "chic".
-How it works-
Unscrew the lid and wipe the brush a little around the edge -as it's new it would be full so when the brush is out there will be too much. Then gently swift it along your eyelashes. One layer will be enough, unless you rather the spider legs look.
If you are not happy with the results of the brush, then it's ideal just for the mascara liuid inside when you're on a budget and just use your regular brush that you would normally use.
This product lasts through out the day -but please do't leave it on over night -you will wake up with panda eyes.
The container says use within 6 months but it can last for about 18 months and after that you can always wake it up a bit with a small amount of water.
This product is a boots brand so you can only buy it at boots. The normal price for it is £1.99 but you can always find special offers such as 3 for 2 mix and match, or 3 for £5.
This product does not say where it was made but it does give you a Notttingham headquarters address.
I tend to flit between cheap and expensive mascara and never settle on any one brand. I came across the Boots Natural Collection Lash Length Mascara in Black (they also do a brown) when a 3 for £5 event on the collection was running last year, it is usually £1.99, so along with a couple of nail polishes I thought I would give this a go.
The mascara comes in a very plain white 8ml tube with the Natural Collection flower design on the front and product description, Boots address and the fact that it is dermatologically tested on the back of the tube, so nothing special, but for the price I would not expect much. The lid is easy to twist off and reveals a tapered applicator brush that is fairly thick, I think it resembles a fake christmas tree. The mascara smells of, to me, what the mascara for my teenage years smelled of, which is very make uppy, sort of processed, not overly pleasant but not off putting. Once on the eyes I cannot detect the scent any longer.
The masacara is quite thin in consistency, although stays on the brush well, there is no fancy brush excess wiper at the top of the tube, and I find myself wiping the excess off on the top, which causes the top to clogg up and I then have to wipe it off every now and again to prevent the lid from sticking.
The mascara is easy to apply and does add length to my lashes, however, it takes an age to dry and whilst I am applying it to my bottom lashes it comes off on my eye lids and whilst applying to my top lashes I end up with little dots of mascara just below my eyes. I find that is easily removed with a damp cotton bud, but this adds extra time to my morning and removes other bits of my make-up.
Once the mascara has dried I am left with longer lashes, that have a good dark colour. However, I find the inconsistency of the product in terms of excess, sometimes leaves my lashes looking spidery and heavy. On the plus side it washes off well with a gel based face wash and has never caused me any irritation.
Overall I have mixed views on this product as it does generally make my lashes look longer and has a good dark colour, it also stays put for most of the day and does not flake off or run. However, it is runny and causes me problems on application. Overall I will award this mascara 3 Dooyoo Stars, if you can put up wth the messy application and are on a very tight budget this maybe the mascara for you.
I had £2 on my Advantage Card so I decided to treat myself to this £1.99 mascara. The packaging is pretty bland, white with the "Natural Collection" logo printed onto it. However, the mascara isn't bland. Hell no!
This mascara is GREAT! It really lengthens my lashes, which is a bonus as my lashes are naturally light and short. It lengthens them SO much that someone actually thought i'd had lash extensions put in! The mascara doesn't clump, which is another bonus. It simply glides onto your lashes easily and with very little effort. The mascara darkens my light lashes so that no blonde lashes are visible. Perfect! The mascara wipes off easily with a make-up wipe at the end of the day and it doesn't irritate the eyes. It's really cheap and it comes in three shades so you can match the perfect shade to your eyes.
The brush is also easy to work with. It's just a straight brush with no curves or angles. It picks up just the right amount of mascara and sweeps it over your lashes in just one coat. You can still build up the mascara but I think two or three coats is just enough. However, I think the mascara works that well that just one coat would give you amazing lashes.
A brilliant mascara at a bargain price. For £1.99 try one!
With recently trying to save a few pounds a month on my usually make-up bill and trying to tighten my belt so I can treat other people for Christmas I have been out and about trying to get a few new products in time for the party season....on a budget.
This range of Boots Natural Collection products, I have in the past found to be rather hit and miss but this costing only £1.99 for a mascara that promised to lengthen my lashes and other better known brands I was looking at priced at over the ten quid mark I thought I would try to make a rather a good saving and give this a chance particularly as it was on offer with any 3 products only setting us back £5.00 (plus advantage card points for us Boots Advantage Card Holders!) given too.
This comes simply in a white plastic tube with the top part that holds the brush simply twisting on and off with ease. We are told that it is Natural Collection down the side of it and the colour is stated on the bottom (this is available in brown/black and black and I selected the black as thats what I usually wear!) and no size is stated though this is a large and standard kind of size I guess.
Well you simply use this the way you would any other mascara of course. The brush is thin and tapered to one end of it and is rather long. It certainly isn't a thick brush and is very easy to control.
The liquid, in my case as I have previously stated is the black shade and thats very jet black and rather wet though it isn't drippy and again is easy to apply and control the usage of.
You can opt for one or two coats of this and really, this is just ever so easy to get on the lashes and it dries fast too. In the daytime I go for one coat, at night two just for a little extra definition.
This isn't a waterproof mascara so do be aware of that and it doesn't add 'body' or thickness to my eyelashes at all though it defines them well enough and because of that happening they do look rather long though not extraordinarily like they are fake of course lol.
This, on me stays put all day, doesn't agitate my sensitive eyes though if I do rub my eyes it does smudge a little so as long as I remember I have it on its fine enough and is easy to remove too with my usual make up removing routine.
This isn't the best mascara I have ever used as you can probably tell from the tone of my review but is it worth the amount it costs? Yes its simply ok, not earth shattering but its good enough quality.
Only available from Boots or from Boots.com
The Natural Collection in Boots is an absolute godsend for all of those who don't want to pay through the nose for yet another over-branded cosmetic product. That's the sound of a poor and biter student by the way. I have to admit the reason I was first drawn to this product was the £1.99 price tag along with points on my Advantage card (I know this is the wrong review but for those of you who don't own one...an Advantage card will change your life!).
Realistically the product won't win any design awards for its aesthetic appeal in terms of branding but the functionality of the product more than makes up for this! I personally have had some problems with mascaras in the past which have made my eyes water (and no, not always as a result of poking myself in the eye with the wand) but this product has never given me any beef and the 'lash length'ening feature, as promoted on the product itself, seems to work a treat.
After application your lashes may not be as 'lengthened' as other brands such as Maybelline, however, I have found that the results do last the whole day and at a tenth of the price of the bigger brands you cannot go wrong!
I've always been one to just use any random mascara and not care too much! I've always focused more on finding a nice foundation. A good base is a good face, after all!
Despite my 'no-fuss' attitude towards mascara, it doesn't take a smarty pants to tell a good one from a bad one. Whenever i run out of one i just quickly run into Boots and pick up the first one I find (that's at a reasonable price, of course!) Probably not the best philosophy, but the more you try the more you know.
I quickly scanned the names and picked the one i thought would work best so i picked Lash Length in Black.
The packaging is a nice white tube with black writing. I find this does tend to rub off after a while though. But not completely.
I quite like the packaging choice as the white reminds me of being clean and sanitary. Also, very plain and simple and not overloaded with a bunch of text displaying the claims that they most of the time fail to deliver.
The brush starts off wider and then gets slimmer going down, the bristles are quite short and packed together aswell. It seems very stable and is flexible but not overly, which is good.
I've previously used a lot of mascaras from Maybelline. Including the much hyped about Falsies and some others in thier Volume Express range. I've also used mascaras from Avon, The Body Shop, Colourtrend and Miss Sporty.
And i must say they've been alright but in my opinion, no better than the Natural Collection Lash Length Mascara, which is dirt cheap at only £1.99! It definitely gives length and is great for layering.
It applies so well, no clumps, really defining and looks so natural! It's pretty waterproof aswell despite not being branded so. No smudging or fading either.
You'll regret it if you don't try it!
As a Boots-aholic when I have cash in my pocket I am always wandering around the shop looking for little treats, especially in the Make-up aisles. On one particular trip I was looking for mascara. I didn't want to spend too much money as I had in fact not long bought one but had stupidly picked up Brown instead of Black. Therefore I was drawn to the Boots Natural Stand. There weren't that many to choose from, but I settled on the Lash Length Mascara as in this instance size matters!

''Defines and extends for visibly longer lashes.''
No great claims are made by any of the Boots Natural products, I think it fits in with the brand image that nothing is brashy, no bolds statements or big billboards which promise if you use their products you can achieve the looks in the picture (the airbrushed and *lash inserts used images). Just plain and simple...natural.
The majority of products in the make up range come in white or clear packaging with the logo on the front and various information depending on the product. This mascara in particular ha the company address, and some symbols including that the tube in recyclable.
I have to be honest I have been trying to find out why the Natural Collection is natural...but I'm struggling.
The products are dermatologically tested and from my shopping experiences are fragrance free. This is great for people with sensitive skin.
Also the products are free from mineral oils- or so I am led to believe from the ingredients on things I have bought and from my digging on the net - which is good as these can create a layer of oil on the skin which can clog your pores. But this isn't relevant really to the mascara so I won't dwell on that point.
The applicator on this product is a slightly spiraled brush, which is tapered towards the end. The mascara itself is quite thick, and has a matt look to it, unlike other which may be very wet or shinny looking on the applicator.

This mascara on its own will cost £1.99. All Boots Natural products are £2 (4 whole Boots points collected whoo!) or less. You can also currently buy 3 products for £5 which is a good deal, especially if you find a product you like you can stock up!
As you may guess the product are available in the majority of Boots stores and some Boots Pharmacy's. You can also purchase a selection of the products online on the Boots Website.
*~* Using the Product *~*
The shape of the brush on this mascara actually makes it very easy to use and maneuver. The tapered end means that you can catch the small lashes on your inner eye as well as all the longer ones. It is also really good for doing the lower lashes as you can use the small end.
For £1.99 I wasn't expecting much, however I was very pleasantly surprised. I don't have short lashes but they aren't the longest either but after a few strokes of this my longest lashes just above my pupil re very almost touching my eye brows! So it really does as a god amount of length. However, for those who like very thick dramatic long lashed this may not work for you as although it make the lashes longer they look very fine. I had expected this mascara to be quite clumpy from first glance but it puts a very fine coating on the lashes and builds them upwards and separates them nicely. Apart from a few tiny little clumps you could well believe these were my natural lashes! Therefore, this is very suited for an everyday look. I wouldn't say I would use this for a night out as I would be looking for a more dramatic effect.
The colour is good, the black is not the most intense black I've ever used but I think the fact it is not overly wet or shiny black adds to the natural look the mascara creates.
You may find a few spots of black on your face during the day from where it has flaked slightly, especially if you put lots of layers of mascara on. However, it certainly is not as bad as some more expensive products I have used.
I have had this mascara a while now and only stopped using it when it started to dry out a little, so make sure to get the longest life from your mascara to put the lid back on properly as this one dried quite fast! Despite that it is no slightly drier I have found another use for this mascara, you can use it on your brows. As the effect is very light on fine if you have filled in your brows using this (once it's slightly dried out and near it's end) will help keep your eyebrow hairs in place, and if you have lighter brows darken this. Beware though, this will only work if you have dark brows!
*~* Overall *~*
I really liked this mascara. I think for just under £2 you can't go wrong! If you don't wear a lot of make-up and just want your eyes to pop a little this could be what you need as it is not too much. Also this mascara would be great to use when you plan on wearing false lashes as it will create a nice length, whiles the lashes can add fullness-and because it's not too thick when applied you could easily wear a coat of this on the false lashes as well.
A recommendation from me for everyday wear.
I bought this mascara from Boots at £1.99, because I buy my bronzer from the natural collection brand and it was part of a buy 3 get the cheapest free deal.
I have to say that this is the worst mascara I have ever used, firstly I bought the colour brown/black, it is a lot more brown than it is black and I think I definately bought the wrong colour. It hardly shows up on my eyelashes unless I apply huge amounts and several layers. This takes time and also is using up the product really quickly.
I usually buy a mascara every 2-3 months even if it hasnt run out, but I think I will be replacing this one much sooner as it is already drying out and I have to really scrape the brush around the inside.
The liquid is quite clumpy and doesnt spread out on the brush evenly as theres nothing in the bottle to stop the liquid coming out. When you have several layers on it does dry quite quickly and does look good, however I dont really think its value for money if it just runs out so quickly.
I had to change the brush eventually to one from a Rimmel mascara as the brush isnt shaped very well, is too soft and doesnt follow the shape of your eyes.
I wouldnt recommend this mascara to anyone, I would rather spend a few more pounds on a better brand and get the look I want for much less effort in the mornings.
This mascara doesn't stand out. It is in a white tube with the brand and logo printed on. I guess it would stand out alongside other brands of mascara being white but in it's own Natural Collection stand at Boots (the only place you can buy this as it is a Boots brand) it blends in.
It costs £1.99 or works out cheaper if bought as part of their 3 for £5 deal which I think is permanent. I would never had given this a go if it wasn't for reviews I read of the product. The reviews wern't on here but on the Boots website. They spoke very favourably of this product some even comparing it to very expensive brands.
So, as like most women, always on the search for a good mascara I gave this a whirl. I bought this and two other mascaras for £5. The other too were lash curl and lash care. Incidently lash curl has a better overall rating here but I don't favour it myself.
Upon opening you are greeted with thin brush with tight bristles that tapers towards the end. When I use this I zig-zag it along my lashes a few times. The effect it gives it longer, thicker and more volumized lashes. It also gives them a slight curl. They stick together slightly but not like a 'spidery' effect, they just look thicker.
It is pigmented quite well and lasts most of the day. A little does come off but it doesn't really smudge so you don't have to worry about mascara under your eyes.
When I bought this my mascara was actually dry. It worked well making me wonder if it was supposed to be like this. I purchased another and no, it is not supposed to be dry! But I think I actually prefer it drier.
If I compare this, taking in consideration price, to other brands I have used such as Benefit, Max Factor and Maybelline this is excellent value, giving much more for your money than the others.
Some of the reviews on here do not rate this so perhaps this is another mascara, like the one from my last review, that works differently on different people. But at £1.99 or less it is definately worth a try!
This is one mascara that I shall re-purchase again and again!
I own so many mascaras its just silly. This is one I bought from Boots a few months ago. It was such a bargain - it only cost me £1.99.
The packaging is a very simple plain white, which looks very au naturale; it is from the natural collection at Boots after all. I think its the simple packaging that caught my attention and drew my interest towards the product in the first place. Most mascaras are a bit more decorative and colourful so this one stands out compared to them. Simple is good.
I have the mascara in black. I usually get brown but I decided randomly when buying this one to get it in black, although it is available in brown as well.
The mascara isn't of the best quality I have to say. The brush is awkward, leaves clumps between your lashes and the end result can be quite messy. With a bit of practice at using the tricky brush I am now able to make the mascara look just about presentable on my lashes, though, and it was only £1.99 after all which is the cheapest mascara you can buy from Boots, as far as I'm aware.
I think I would recommend this to people who are on a tight budget and are fans of the natural collection. If price was no object I would give this only one star but as price unfortunately is an object I will give it three.
