Boots Natural Water Guard Mascara
This product is currently only available at Boots, and is priced at £1.99 (for an 8ml tube), or three products for £5 across the Natural Collection range.
I have to admit that I bought this product as a way of economizing - I don't think that I have ever finished a tube of mascara, I throw them away when they are between 4 - 6 months old to avoid eye infections and if the product has gotten a bit on the gloopy side.
This is sold as being water and smudge proof, as well as being dermatologically tested. As someone who can sometimes suffer with dry eye I like the idea of something that should be gentle on my eyes. This for me is not an economy that I will be making again. The product has a rather sharp scent to it, and when it is applied it can be a little 'dusty' it doesn't flake, but it does come off just too easily. It leaves my eyes drier than usual, and overall the longevity of the product is very disappointing.
The applicator is a 'standard' bristle type, and overall does go on 'OK'. It is nothing special, yet it isn't the most awkwardly shaped applicator I have seen. It can be difficult to use it on the smaller lashes in the corner of your eyes. The black shade I bought is fine in colour, but I didn't think the mascara did much to make my eye lashes 'pop'.
Other than the very cheap price I have to say there isn't anything that I could say is a positive of this product. I have paid similar amounts for mascaras before and not been as disappointed as this.
It gets one star, and I am only giving it that grudgingly. Definately not recommended.
This is a waterproof mascara from budget make up brand Natural Collection. The mascara is available in two colours; black or brown/black. I recently purchased this product after reading several reviews on the brand here on dooyoo and I was looking for a cheap waterproof mascara so I though I would give it a go. I owned a couple of lipsticks from Natural Collection about a year or so a go and I was happy with the product so I was looking forward to trying their waterproof mascara. I wear mascara A LOT!
The packaging for this mascara is pretty bland but to be honest for the price you pay you shouldn't expect much more. I like that their packaging is white though as opposed to black that is often opted for mascara packaging, the white makes the product look a bit fresh. The packaging is plastic and in a long cylindrical shape. On the front of the package is the name "Natural Collection" in brown font and on the back is manufacturer details, the face there is 8ml of product and some claims such as "waterproof and smudge resistant" & "fragrance free". The product is dermatologically tested but there is no ingredients list on the product.
You can purchase this product in Boots for £1.99.
This product has performed well for the price paid, there are better waterproof mascaras out there but for a budget brand this one is really good. I wear mascara daily but don't often wear waterproof mascara however with all this shocking hot weather we've been having I have felt the need for something a bit stronger and so I've been using this mascara for a couple of weeks. The mascara wand to this product is very simple, it's small thin and has twisted bristles, there's no spoon shape or ball point end and to be honest I like the simplicity, some of these new mascaras are far too fiddly and complicated and I tend to opt for the more traditional wand.
The consistency of the product is as you would expect of a mascara and so far since using the product I have experienced no clumps. The wand provides good coverage to the lashes and it is easy to reach the corners of the eye. My lashes are coated very evenly and as somebody who often applies two coats of mascara this product performs well for that "build up" look.
In terms of it's waterproof ability I would say it has done very well, I've been in 29C plus on occasions these past couple of weeks and it has not budged, I've also been in water fights with my nieces and nephews, on this occasion I did have some small run off but in a water fight this can happen even with higher end mascaras, I feel it would hold still in a light rain shower for example but very heavy rain would probably cause some smudging, as I say though for the price I still feel this product is very good.
Overall I definitely think this product is worth a try if you are a budget buyer! I hate spending loads of money on make up when I know I can use a product that will perform at 95% of the more expensive option. I'm really happy with this waterproof mascara and I'll definitely be taking it on holiday with me in August! I can't remove a star, it's extremely good for the price.
I don't wear much make-up, but I do like to wear mascara and eyeliner because I have blonde eye lashes and without being coated in mascara you can't actually tell they're there! But I refuse to pay a huge price for it because to me mascara's mascara, yes I know they do different things but I'm a simple lady who likes simple things! Lol. So I'm not into all this eye-lash pumping, lengthening, separating business, but I do need it to be waterproof because I'm quite an emotional person... So that's why I turn to natural collection, it's simple, nothing too fancy, neutral and reliable.
~Product and availability~
Natural collections Water guard mascara is available to buy from Boots for an extremely reasonable £1.99 which is a huge saving compared with the higher more well-known make-up brands. There is an on-going offer on in Boots; 3 natural collection make-up items for £5.00! Which is also excellent value and is great if you wanted to give somebody a nice inexpensive gift or wanted to stock up on your make-up essentials.
~ Packaging ~
Natural collections water guard mascara's tube is the same colourings as all of the natural collection products, white with the logo in brown on the centre of the tube. Nice and simple, nothing too fancy but it's not really eye catching either but I guess it lives up the 'natural' in the name. The tube is the usual mascara type, thin and plastic with a twistable lid. The back of the tube gives you boots contact details as well as a product description.
~ Useage ~
Boots natural collections water guard mascara is very easy to apply, its clump free and the colours aren't too harsh that you look like you've been beaten up. I have had the same tube for about 4 months now, I use it more or less everyday and it's still working fine and hasn't dried up at all. The consistency of the mascara is just right, not too thick that it sticks your eye lashes together. The mascara isn't totally waterproof, it lasts through a few tears but if you rub your eyes when there wet it does smudge a little bit so you have to be careful, but generally it works well for the amount of money you pay for it. It is very gentle on the eyes though and I imagine it would be perfect for somebody with sensitive eyes. I also find there is no need to reapply it like other mascara's, it lasts all day and still looks as good as when you first put it on.
~ Other information ~
This mascara is waterproof and smudge resistant.
It's fragrance free and dermatologically tested.
~ Overall opinion ~
I would certainly recommend this mascara to anybody who doesn't like paying a lot for their make-up, if you're looking for something special it's not for you because it just does what a basic mascara should do. The only downside would be that it's not totally waterproof, but it does suffice for the odd tear, which is good enough for me when it only costs me £1.99!
This is another product from the natural collections range that I will be sure to continue to buy, it's perfect for me!
This is a simple "no frills" mascara that costs just £1.99 from Boots. Yes, it's cheap and it's cheerful too!
The mascara comes presented in a long white tube with 8ml of mascara. The mascara has a life of six months, so it says on the tube. The brush is of average size but it's nothing special. However, sometimes simple is better. The mascara is also fragrance free so it's suitable for people with sensitive eyes. The mascara is waterproof too so it's ideal for those rainy days!
I find the mascara easy to use. The brush isn't too large in size and it somehow manages to coat each and every lash without any difficulty. The mascara also manages to cover the corner lashes, and even the smallest of eyelashes gets a good covering too. As for being waterproof, this mascara IS waterproof. Without sounding too depressing here, I wore this mascara to a funeral and it lasted all day without running down my face. It's also easy to remove at the end of the day, unlike some other waterproof mascaras that are a nightmare to remove this one simply comes off with a baby wipe.
The mascara lengthens my lashes too and it gives them some extra volume. I have naturally ginger hair and my lashes are naturally quite light and fair. This mascara helps to colour my lashes (temporarily of course) and the black shade defines my eyes really well.
The mascara doesn't clump either and it lasts all day without flaking. For £1.99 you can't go wrong.
The other week when I was in Boots and I decided I wanted to treat myself to some new cosmetics....just to cheer myself up with really and not really out of need as such. However I did need a couple of mascara's which is why I went to Boots in the first place and this was one of my chosen 2!
This costs £1.99 for a 7ml tube though I bought this on offer with 3 items from this range costing only £5.00 and I bought rather a few products and got a wee bit carried away I have to admit!
The packaging of Boots Natural Collection products is very simple indeed. The tube is white and plastic and one end twists off and in that lid there is a long plastic wand with a thin bristly brush to the end of it and on one side of it we are told that it is Natural Collection and on the other side contact details for Boots are given and then on the base of the tube the colour is stated and size. Its informative enough I guess just very basic though easy to open and close and so on to be fair to it.
What appealed to me about this mascara is that it is waterproof and with the weather we are having at the moment I felt it would be quite a handy product to use as I'm sick of my mascara running down my face!
This came in 2 colour options. Me being me I went for the black option as that is what I prefer to wear day or night but it also comes in a brown/black option which is a slightly softer colour option of course.
The brush on this is rather thin however the consistency of the product is really thick and gunky and I found I need to wipe the brush a bit first on the top of the tube to try rid the small clumps that arise. It applies nicely enough, I do have to make sure that I'm not aplying too much mascara though as my eyelashes go spindly but if I apply it and concentrate whilst doing it, it simply defines my eyelashes rather well. It doesn't particulary lengthen them or lift them at all but they do look coated and darker and I am overall pleased enough with the application of this product, though I can't simply and quickly paint and go with it.
Is it waterproof though? Yes it is really. You can't swim in it but its splash proof and tear proof enough and I don't find it easy to smudge either. It doesn't agitate my sensitive eyes, its simple enough to remove with my usual cleansing routine and all in all its an ok little purchase but nothing special. I wouldn't avoid it in the future but I'd rather pay a bit more and get a better packaged and easier to apply product in all honesty!

I confess I am a mascara junkie. It's the first thing I look for when out make up shopping and I always ensure I have at least two in my make up bag at all times, just in case one should break or dry out etc....
Whilst I love mascara I don't want to pay over the odds for it, in fact £5 is my limit, any more than that is not an option. For this reason I normally choose make up from Boots Natural Collection, ok the packaging is somewhat on the dull side but I'm not buying it to look at, I want it to look good on me.
Ok, now onto the review of this little beauty:
As I mentioned above the packaging is nothing to write home about. All products in the Natural Collection range have containers that are white, very plain looking with little if any embellishments. They simply have the brands logo on the side or top and the name of the product. The mascara doesn't look expensive or luxurious however it does have an elegance about it, nice and simple really.
There are two shades available, brown/black or just Black. I prefer to use the Black one as it shows up better on my dark eyelashes.
Like all products in the range, the mascara is very reasonably priced at just £2.99. Very often Boots run promotions such as 3 for 2 so it's possible to buy it even cheaper.
***Ease of use***
I like this mascara very much as it has a thin wand, I find this easy to apply to my lashes and am able to get right into the corners and cover all lashes down the tiny ones on my lower eyelids. Each pump into barrel picks up the perfect amount of product, and I find I don't have any excess to wipe away. I find one layer is good for day time and two or even 3 is perfect for the evenings when you want more coverage and definition. The wand is comfortable to hold too.
The mascara once applied and dried lasts all day, I find when I get home from work after an 8 hour shift that it still looks as good as it did first thing and doesn't need topping up.
***Ease of removal***
This is the only place the mascara comes unstuck. I use facial cleansing wipes designed for removing waterproof mascara but even then I have to give it some to get the stuff off my face. I have to rub a few times to remove all traces and often end up red eyed but this effect soon disappears and doesn't leave me feeling sore. I just find it annoying that I have to put so much effort into removing it when I just want to get into bed. I have to use one wipe for each eye most evenings.
***How long does a tube last*
They say you should replace a mascara every 3 months to avoid the risk of infections from old and knackered make up, I however tend to get through a whole tube before then I as I wear mascara every single day. One application for me every day means a tube lasts around two months. I don't begrudge this as it's so cheap.
I'm very pleased with this mascara and have made it regular purchase. After all it's a bargain and does exactly what it says on the tube. Can't argue with that.
I have been desperate for new everyday mascara for a few weeks now as my Maybelline one had come to an end. It had not been the most impressive mascara but it did the job, though I was not eager to re buy it. Venturing into my local boots, for a large-ish store, it has quite a small make-up selection and their Natural Collection display is out of sight. As I worked my way along the aisle looking at the different mascaras I was over whelmed. Magic wand this, lash revitalizing that, wands that curved left, wands that curved right, all I wanted was a basic black, waterproof mascara, basic anything is so hard to find these days at a reasonable price!
The Naturals Collection display section is about as fuss-free and basic as you can get, much like the products and their packaging, and the prices are low. Around £1.99 for most things, including the Water Guard Mascara I picked up. No fancy pants technological doodahing words or false promises to make my lashes look tv-big and false. The packaging is simple, a white plastic tube with the Natural Collection logo in brown. They have several mascaras in the range.
The wand is an old style brush wand, thought quite long which I like. My trouble with thick brush wands is that they tend to leave behind lots of clumps so I was a little weary before applying. The plastic tubing has a inner plastic piece that gives a little popping sound as you remove the wand - this inner piece effectively removes excess mascara and clumps from the brush. Problem solved!
The packaging boasts, 'waterproof and smudge resistant. Fragrance free. Dermatologically tested'. I always like to go for products designed for sensitive skin, especially products I'll be using around my eyes as they can get irritated quite easily. Fragrance free it may be, it does not smell like a bed of roses, but, it does smell like nail varnish removed, there's a definite tang there to the scent that is unpleasant if you're going to sit and sniff the wand all day. That kind of smell always worries me that its going to lead to an allergic reaction, just because it smells harsh but luckily I've stayed reaction-free. You can't smell this product once it's on so as long as it keeps it's self contained to the tube, I'm fine with that!
Application was easy, the long brush helps to get a more even and fuller coverage and when applied, the lashes do not clump together for that 'spidery' effect. I tend to pre-curl my lashes to help separate them, apply the mascara, wait a few seconds for it to go tacky, then re-curl. This seems to keep my lashes separated and to give a more natural and long lasting curl. I have dark eyelashes but this helps to really make them pop and stand out a little more.
It's staying power seems pretty impressive, though I've yet to attempt wearing it on a sweaty day or at the swimming pool!
I wouldn't say it's an ideal mascara for going out in as it doesn't really do anything 'wow' to your lashes, but it does give a nice coverage and is ideal for day to day wear and work, especially if you prefer the more natural and bare beauty look. As a bargain beauty buy it gets the thumbs up. For £1.99 I was not expecting much of anything but I was surprisingly impressed, and looking at other reviews on dooyoo, it seems it has had the same effect on many others! I would be keen to try out other products in the range, especially the other mascaras. You will probably get around 3 months out of this before you need a new one.
I'd definatly recommend that everyone tries this mascara at least once, and I think it's a great budget buy for teens who are just starting to experiment with make up. Why pay £15+ when you can get the job done for £2?
I personally am not a big make up lover so I don't really wear much just a bit of eye shadow, mascara and power and sometimes a bit of lip gloss so I don't like spending to much on products. So when I came across the boots natural collection products they all seemed great prices so I thought I would give them a go. I got them whilst they were on a 3 for £5 offer which was great but otherwise for this waterproof mascara it usually costs £1.99 which I still think is a good price.
Every time I buy mascara I always buy the waterproof ranges but with other brands I have found although they say they are waterproof they come off very easily where as with this natural collection one I think it is great and even struggle to get it off some nights so it definitely is waterproof! Also on those occasions when you might shed a tear or two it never rubs off or runs down your face to give you big panda eyes. It comes in either brown or black but I always choose the black. One factor which I love about this mascara is that it never clumps when I put it on and it goes on evenly and easily. Also it is of a good consistancy so it is not too thick which I think helps reduce the chance of it clumping.
Definitely recommend it to everyone who wears mascara as it is a great price for a great product! Top marks!
Browsing through the makeup section at Boots, a couple of weeks ago, I felt quite frustrated. My usual mascara ( Max Factor '' Masterpiece Max ''. I love it ) was out of stock AGAIN. And I really needed it for a party. Just my luck, huh?! I needed a cheap , one-use alternative. I remembered a friend once told me that Boots did a makeup range called '' Natural Collection '' that was cheap and was full of different stuff. So I decided, as a last resort, I might as well.
Looking at all the Natural Collection products, I was in shock. Almost everything was £1.99 (including this mascara). WHAT? I never saw a whole makeup range so cheap. Checking out the mascaras I quickly picked up the '' Water Guard '' mascara and bought it.
Looking at the packaging it is very, very basic. It's just plain white with a black flower-like icon with '' Natural Collection '' in black on top. Like the whole range really. I had to check on the back where in small writing it said what kind of mascara it was. To be honest I didn't look into it that much, I just raced to the checkout in a hurry. When I got home I tried it on with all my other makeup.
Opening the tube was easy, just twist and pull out. The black was dark enough but the brush was very basic like the packaging but I wasn't expecting anything fancy, considering the price. It was quite long though.
Applying was easy and seriously I'm pathetic at putting makeup on so thats a good thing for me ( well, I still used a tissue underneath lashes to prevent mistakes )! The results were a bit clumpy but I could correct them reasonably easily too. So, to the party!
After the party and I was home, I looked in the mirror. I frowned. Half the mascara was gone! And the remains of it was smudged. Well, so much for staying power and being waterproof. Thankfully at the party there were no comments said to me so maybe it was more noticeable to myself and not others. I use eye makeup remover from The Body Shop and all traces of mascara were gone in a matter of seconds. After this I gave the mascara to my little sister ( 12 ). I didn't want it anymore, and it was only meant for that night anyway. My sis says she thinks it's okay and she uses it every now and then.
Overall, it didn't have much staying power and doesn't appear to be waterproof to me. But it's a budget mascara and at £1.99, it couldn't be THAT good to be true at such a cheap price. I don't think I will buy their mascaras again and will be sticking to my usual ones, but since it's so cheap I guess it wouldn't hurt to check out their other products.
Not that good but if you're short of money this is a good choice.
I can honestly say, that i think this may have been the best £2 i have ever spent. I have tried many mascara's, from the more expensive highstreet brands to this, natural collection one from boots. I have to say that the thing that attracted me to this particular mascara, above all others, was the price! At under £2, i felt like i was robbing boots when i walked out with my purchase! Another thing that attracted me to it, was the fact that it is waterproof, I find that waterproof mascara's tend to stay on a lot longer than their non-waterproof competitiors.
The mascara itself is very simple, it comes without any gimics, which is very rare these days, it simply does what mascara has always been known for doing, adds colour, length and definition to lashes. The price with this product speaks for itself so i dont suppose they feel the need to advertise it too much. It comes in a very traditional mascara tube, and just has a simple brush head, none of these fancy two sided brushes or comb features that you may have come to expect, but which actually (in my opinion in any case) make it harder to apply the mascara succesfully.
The liquid is a very nice consitancy, not so runny that it takes ages to dry, but not so thick that it causes eyelashes to clump either, infact i think boots have got it spot on with this product. It goes on easily, makes lashes look a lot longer, but not spidery or fake, and above all (in my opinion again) doesn't make them clump together, this is very important to me as i hate clumpy, spidery lashes. I have very sensitive eyes meaning that some mascara's can tend to irritate me, I have had no such problem with this product and have been using it for around two months now.
I will definately be purchasing this product again as i am very happy with it, I would recommend it to anyone who wears mascara, as i think its as good, if not better than most other mascara's on offer on the highstreet, and its also a complete bargain!!!
When i first started wearing make-up i wasn't looking for anything over the top and just a simple and affordable look was what i was aiming for ;this product fit the bill perfectly. Over the years i have purchased many Natural Collection mascaras and have strayed a few times when i recieved more expensive ones as presents but have always returned to this.
This is mainly because at only £1.95 for an 8ml bottle it is extremely good value for money and is an effective mascara aswell! However, i have discovered that it doesn't last as long as other more expensive mascara's and does have to be reapplied slightly more often. I also find it being water-proof very useful because my eyes tend to water alot while i am walking, but with this mascara i can reach my destination with my eyes still as perfect as when i left. The water-proof is good for preventing streaks and residue under the eye aswell.
The packaging is very minimalistic, a white container with the black 'natural collection' logo on it but it is very resilient and remains undamaged after being carted around in my bag all day. The brush is also very standard, lacking the fancy curves that come with the more expensive products making it slightly more difficult to reach into the corners of the eye.
I don't like paying over the odds for a dubious fashion fix, so I went for the cheapest mascara in Boots - Boots own brand "Natural Collection" waterproof mascara. And I've since found it to be a fantastic choice!
The packaging is basic - it won't look impressive when falling out of your evening bag. The brush is simple. The price is economy! However, it works as well as, if not better than, the leading brands. It goes on really easily, giving a good coating to the lashes with no clumps at all. And it lasts all day, even through tears! It made my lashes look darker, fuller and longer. My teenage sister who's into expensive mascara was really impressed and I think I've converted her to budget mascara!
Since first buying the Natural Collection mascara, I keep going back to it. Why pay more when this works so well?!
At only £1.95 for 8ml, this mascara is very cheap at about 1/4 of the price of other "big brand" mascaras. It comes in a white container with the "Natural Collection" logo on, and is available in either black or "brown/black".
The mascara brush is not of a comb or rubber type, just standard bristles, and is used to apply the mascara in the normal way. Despite only being a cheap Boots mascara, this mascara is just as good and effective as any other mascara I have tried: including many which claim to be "lengthening", "volumising" etc. Plus, it lasts longer than the more expensive ones, as many of these have less than 8ml in.
The waterproof side of this mascara is also very good, once again at least as good as the leading brands.
As it is a Boots product, this mascara hasn't been tested on animals.
To conclude, this product is fantastic value for money and I would recommend it to anyone who begrudges spending £8 or more on mascara which doesn't live up to its claims.
