“ Brand: Boots / hypo-allergenic „
I hardly ever wear and make up just for the fact that I do not really like the feel of it on my skin. But for a night out I do like to wear a little for a change, and this includes curling and defining my eye lashes. Now I have worn black mascara on the odd occasion and although it looks nice I prefer the more natural look especially as I have Ginger hair so black mascara can look a little harsh against it. It was several years ago that I discovered the Boots No7 lash and brow perfector and have been purchasing it ever since.
The last and brow perfector is part of the Boots No7 range and therefore can only be purchased in Boots. It is currently priced at £10.00, but it is worth looking out for the £5.00 No7 vouchers that Boots regularly give out throughout the year as with one of these you can purchase it for just £5.00 which in my opinion is a fantastic bargain. Also not forgetting that you can collect your advantage card points too.
The lash and brow perfector comes in a clear round plastic tube with a black screw top that has a brush wand attached to it. The tube contains 7ml of the clear lash and brow perfector liquid which may not seem like a lot but as you are only using it on your eyelashes and eyebrows then a little does go a long way. The packaging is very simple but quite elegant looking and has gold writing, although this can be a little hard to read on the clear part of the tube.
On the back of the tube it describes the brow and lash perfector is a 'caring, conditioning gel to enhance and shape your lashes and brows'. It is also hypo-allergenic which means it is more gentle than some other cosmetics and less likely to cause you to have an allergic reaction, although it is worth patch testing any new product on your skin first. I personally have fairly sensitive skin but have not had any adverse reaction to the product.
The gel is really easy to use, I usually curl my eyelashes first and then you simply unscrew the top and pull out the wand that it attached to it. As the wand is pulled out the brush at the bottom which is about 1 inch long brushes against the side of the tubes narrowed top to remove the excess gel. The brush is rounded on one side for use on your eye lashes and slanted on the other for use on your eye brows. As the gel is clear it is a little difficult to see where you are putting it but the brush works well and does seem to give a nice even coverage and helps to keep the lashes separated and in place. On my eye brows I simply sweep the slanted side of the brush over them and it helps to define them and help tame any stray hairs into place to give them a nice shape. Also with the gel being clear then you do not need to worry about it running if it gets wet from rain or tears. This means that it is also perfect to wear on holiday as it will not run in the heat or if you fancy a dip in the pool!
The only downside to this product is the fact if the brush comes into contact with any foundation or eye shadow then it discolours the remaining gel in the tube and it can go a little cloudy but still seems to work well. I am sure this is the same with black mascara but as it is black you do not see it.
Overall in my opinion this is a great little product that I will continue to purchase as it makes my lashes and brows stand out a little without looking like I have used a dumper truck to apply my makeup. I know this product would not be for everyone as I have friends that could not live without their black mascara that they wear day and night. But even for those people it would be great to try for a more natural looks occasionally whilst still keeping the definition.
5 dooyoo stars for me.
I'm always a sucker when it comes to those £5 off no.7 vouchers that Boots always give me when I buy my meal deals at lunch. Usually opting for the cheapest thing they do, I was swayed from my usual option of make-up wipes when I saw this little bottle standing on the shelf looking neat and pretty.
Having curly hair can be a blessing when it comes to volume, but unfortunately, it also means curly eyebrows!! At £10 per bottle for 7ml of gel (or £5 as I pay with one of the handy vouchers!), I'd never seen a product like it before so it was an easy decision to ditch the wipes for a slightly pricier option.
I've never looked back!
Its idea for everyday and evening use. I never like using mascara for work, as throughout the day, as boredom and fatigue set in, I always find myself absent mindedly rubbing my eyes, only to find the infamous 'panda' effect on my return home in the evening. This product solves the problem completely. It gives the lashes a lovely coating that gives the appearance of thicker, glossier lashes, whilst maintaining a natural look and eliminates the black smudges associated with black or brown mascara. Not only that, but taming unruly eyebrows like mine is now no longer a problem. I'd always tried to use a little bit of vaseline to shape my thick eyebrows but it would always slip off and looked greasy. With a single sweep of No7 Lash and Brow Perfector, in the direction the hairs go, the brows are left shapely and glossy looking. A look that works for both work and nights on the town.
In all, I'd say this is an essential item for any lady with unruly brows, and the minimal amount needed each time means it lasts for ages!!
Yay for Boots! When I was looking for a brow gel I definitely didn't want to go to a premium brand but did want a quality product so I went to Boots to see what I could find amongst the selection of make up brands. This caught my eye becuse I hadn't seen it before and it was either this or a brow gel by Benefit which was coloured (I wanted clear). I couldn't try this of course, but trusted that it was number 7 (usually a reputable brand) and purchased it. The first time I applied it, I remember thinking gosh what if it makes my eyebrows stiff? But am happy to report that this product doesn't make brows stiff at all- when you run your fingers through your brows they actually feel quite soft. Also, I like that as it's clear I can tame my brows without applying colour anywhere, which means that I can fill in my brows and not worry. Also, for those that do fill their brows, this doesn't fade colour at all which I love. The first day I tried this I got home after 9 hours and my brows were still in place so I thought it did a wonderful job. The packaging is pretty much the norm for an eyebrow gel- clear plastic tube. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a good quality brow gel that works but without an expensive price tag.

No7 Lash & Brow Perfector is a caring, conditioning gel to enhance and shape your lashes and brows.
** HOW TO USE **
Use the same as a clear mascara and also sweep through your eyebrows to tame them.
** MY OPINION **
I purchased this product half price after buying another item in the same range.
This product is really nice for the first few hours, and it does really lengthen my eyelashes especially after using my heated eyelash curler.
Also i hate plucking my eyebrows, i always look better with slightly thicker eye brows and it really does help to tame them down.
But.. towards the end of the day i noticed there was a lot of white flaky stuff in my eye brows, it seems once it has really dried into the skin it looks like dandruff!!
Also there are a lot more products out there that are a lot cheaper and do the job just as well. I didn't mind so much because i only paid half price for it, but i wouldn't buy this again at full price.
I first found out about clear mascara when I was in school as I was always looking for makeup to wear that didnt look like i had any on because they werent too happy about makeup in general. They went through phases of banning it and then not caring actually and pretty much I was left alone because I used a lot to try and cover spots. I think they just felt sorry for me and didnt mention it.
I could hardly wear a load of black mascara though and I remember reading in one of the teen mags about clear mascara which gave the same effect but looked natural and I read that you could tame your eyebrows with it too. I went and got 17's clear mascara and used it for years on my eyebrows and eyelashes. It didnt have the volumising effect of regular mascara but it was great for eyebrows.
Ive moved on now to No7's lash and brow perfector which costs 9.50 from boots. Quite expensive I know but there is a 3 for 2 offer on no7 products at the moment. It is a 7ml clear tube containing the applicator with a black screw lid that says no7 in gold on it. It is 12cm long in total and there is 8cm of a clear gel inside the clear tube portion. It is useful that its clear as you can see how much is left, unlike normal mascaras.
When you unscrew the top the brush comes out. The brush is 2.5cm long. If you hold the applicator brush up you can see it is like half a christmas tree shape. The bristles go outwards in a triangular shape down to the bottom on one side and the other side is just straight. So for your eyelashes you must use the sloped side of the brush. I think it is shaped like this so you get more gel on the outer edge of the brush and therefore more lift to the outer edge of your eyelashes.
The gel works best on my eyebrows, often I cannot get one of them to get into shape with a stardard eyebrow comb so I use this and just brush through and it grabs the out of place hairs into position and sets them there all day. You want to make sure you get it right the first time though as you can end up with the hairs set in an odd position that youll have to wash out and start again with. Also if you use too much the hairs can look a bit wet or gel like. It sets very well and can rub your eyebrows a lot and the hold will stay
Its also helpful if you want to pluck your eyebrows as you can brush them into the shape you want and then see which hairs need to be removed.
Of course it cannot colour in the end of your lashes so they look longer or add any volume to them but if you stroke the brush upwards from the roots you can get a more defined look to them and a little uplift.
One great advantage in it being clear is, no smudging, no running mascara, and no clumping. So if you make a mistake it doesnt matter and you dont need to wait for it to dry before you close your eyes or blink. Also another great thing, it doesnt dry out like a normal mascara.
Im not a big fan of using it as a mascara really as I want to have more of an effect than it provides so i just use it on my eyebrows.
Just using the tube once or twice a day at most it lasts a very long time. As its an eye product it has a 6 month life before you should change it. To be honest as I only use it on my eyebrows and not lashes I do keep them longer than this.
All in all for eyebrows its great but not so great for eyelashes.
I have been using my No. 7 Lash and Brow Perfector for quite a while now. I can't remember my thinking behind buying it but I do remember that I had a £5 off voucher to spend on No. 7 products and I used this to purchase the Gel.
This product is a clear Hypo-allergenic gel that enhances and shapes your lashes and brows whilst conditioning and costs £9, although with my £5 off voucher it only cost me £4. No. 7 often have other offers on their products, such as 3 for 2 and a free gift when you spend over a certain amount of money.
The gel comes in the same packaging as a mascara, with the a clear plastic tube containing the gel with gold writing on it stating the name of the product and on the other side a brief description of the product. Unfortunately, through regular use, this gold colour has faded and is now unreadable. The screw top lid containing the mascara style wand is black with the No. 7 logo on it in gold. This fans out ever so slightly at the top and contains a white sticker on the back with the barcode (also faded over time). Through the tube I can see the mascara style wand, the cloudy (originally clear) gel with lots of air bubbles and a rouge eyebrow hair! The bristles of the wand go around the brush in a helter skelter style, to the left of the No. 7 logo they are long and to the right they are short. I am not quite sure why but I originally thought that the longer bristles were for your eye lashes and the shorter ones for use on your eyebrows but now I am not so sure. Over time the packaging has deteriorated and now doesn't look particularly good. I would have been a little disappointed if I had paid full price for this product but on a more positive note, at least I can see when the gel is running out. Which even though I have had it for a long time and use it every time I wear makeup, won't be for a while yet as I have more than ¾ of a tube left.
Initially I used this as a clear mascara but it didn't make a noticeable difference to my eyelashes without the use of eyelash curlers and only a minimal difference with the use of curlers so I gave up on this and decided to see what it was like as an eyebrow gel. I started using the short bristles to brush the brows upwards and then outwards, moving stubborn hairs into place with the end of the wand. I used the gel in this way until my sister (a makeup artist) did my makeup for me for a wedding and she used the end of the wand to hold the brow hairs in place with the gel with short strokes. I have used it this way ever since. On the eyebrows, the gel makes the hairs slightly darker and holds them in place avoiding rouge hairs going in the wrong place. This product lasts well, although you do need to be careful that you don't brush them accidentally as they can move from where you originally put them.
You get the best results from this product if you use it regularly as it encourages the brow hairs to grow in the right direction and sit where you want them to. I would agree that it conditions both the eyelashes and brows. This has become one of my makeup bag staples; it improves the look of my eyebrows whilst conditioning them. On the down side, the packaging looks cheap after a while due to deterioration and the product is rather expensive. I would definitely use a brow gel again, but would look around for a cheaper alternative before buying this one again, as since I have bought this I have seen similar products for nearly half the price. Failing this I would make sure that I buy when No. 7 have a 3 for 2 offer on, or I have a voucher for the No. 7 range.
When I first got this for christmas, I must admit, I didn't have really high hopes. I thought it was just a normal clear mascara. The ones I have used in the past just basically made my eye lashes shiny. However; this one is different. You can use this on your own if you don't have time to apply ordinary mascara. I does make your eyelashes longer and add some definintion. It also smoothes your eyebrows and keep them in place.
After you've applied proper mascara; you can put this on top. If you do this it will seal your mascara and help it to last longer. As it's No7 it is hypoallergenic; which means it won't irritate; so it won't harm sensitive eyes. It isn't that sticky and won't make a mess everywhere and it is easy to wipe off. This is a good addition to any make-up bag!
It seems that now more than ever, we're bombarded with adverts for new "improved" products aren't we? The old, tried and tested favourites just aren't quite good enough according to the media. Quite frankly, I get a bit sick of all those endless TV adverts for face creams with "new" oxyribbolax or body sculpting jollop with added rhinohelix12 - all of which are touted as the new magic ingredient you cannot live without. The message very clearly says how on earth have you managed to get through life so far without lashing copious amounts of "recently discovered" waspswellax on your face? And when you do try these new all singing, all dancing products, they never really live up to all the hype or the wonders they've hinted at, do they? Which is why I've sort of given up on trying out most of these new products. I'm fed up being suckered in by huge advertising campaigns which promise all sorts of fantastic miracles, when the result is a pot full of expensive goo that's no different to the one I've been using for years.
Mascara is one of the second biggest offenders for over imaginative marketing campaigns (face creams have got to be at No 1!). It seems you cannot turn on the TV without Penelope Cruz or her ilk advertising some new improved mascara that's going to give you lashes like you've never had before. They've all got bigger and better names to convey their miracle powers on your lashes - try 2000 calorie, go XXL, go sky high. Sadly, I've tried a few, and they've never lived up to any of their hype. What you end up with is a set of unnatural looking lashes, where the mascara is so thickly caked on, it makes it almost impossible to blink without dislodging an eyeball. OK, so that's a bit of an exaggeration... but for me, it never really results in a natural look....it's always oh so very obvious that I'm wearing several coats of mascara. Added to which, mascara is incredibly drying on your lashes.
When I read about an eye-lash conditioning product being sold by Boots No7, I wasn't entirely convinced of its benefits. I therefore approached the store with a very healthy dose of skepticism.
~~ WHAT IS IT? ~~
No7 Lash and Brow Perfector is a clear conditioning gel, which you use on your eye brows (to brush and set them into place) and on your eye-lashes (to give them some natural definition). The wand has longish bristles on one side for your lashes, and shorter ones on the other side for brows. It's ideal for holding your brows in place, and it can also be used as clear mascara, if you are going for a no-make up day, or you're aiming for a very natural look
I should also mention that this colourless gel is totally hypo-allergenic, and is also suitable for sensitive skin.
~~ COST, PACKAGING & AVAILABILITY ~~
This product is produced by No7, a range of cosmetics made and sold exclusively by Boots. You can either buy No7 products online at www.boots.com or in a Boots high street store.
You'll find the lash and brow perfector in the same section as the mascaras instore. It's exactly the same size as standard mascara and it's packaged in the same sort of dispenser. The gel inside is totally opaque and odourless.
Unfortunately, it also retails at around the same price as mascara, coming in at a rather hefty £9.30. However, if you're a regular user of the No7 range, they very often have special offers both online and instore where you can get 3 for 2 on selected items.
~~ HOW TO APPLY ~~
You need to rotate the mascara brush inside the "barrel", in order to coat the wand with the gel (you don't need to pump the brush at all). The brush itself is shaped with longer bristles on one side for your lashes and shorter bristles on the other side for your brows. Whilst applying to your eye-lashes it's best to use a sort of zig-zag motion, coating the lashes from root to tip. You will get the occasional tiny blob of gel, but this is easily removed with the brush. The shorter bristles of the wand are ideal to comb through your eye-brows. The brush should be used in the direction of the natural shape and hair growth on your brows.
This gel is really, really easy, and very quick to apply. It dries in several seconds, and it doesn't feel at all heavy or sticky. As it's a colourless gel, there is no nasty smudging to deal with after application like you often get with mascara.
~~ WHAT DOES IT DO FOR YOU? ~~
I guess, if you're lucky enough to have dark lashes, then a simple coat of this gel would be enough to define your lashes, without the need to resort to mascara. Sadly, I've not been born so lucky. I can't really go out without at least one coat of mascara on my eye-lashes, as my lashes are too pale. I have very long eye-lashes, which is nice. However, too much mascara just makes them look very spindly and dry - yes, you've guessed it - just like a row of spiders' legs. I do hate lashing on too much mascara though, as it just gives you an over made up look and it looks rather false.
What I like about this product is that I can apply a very quick coat to my lashes before I start to do my morning make-up. It takes a few seconds to dry, and then I apply just one coat of black/brown mascara. The gel really does condition and moisten your lashes beautifully, so that the mascara glides on really easily.....and, here's the most important bit.... with hardly any clumping. You end up with a perfect set of natural looking top and bottom eye-lashes. No clumping, no unnatural looking thicker bits and no flaking either.
The gel also helps give a little bit of curl to your lashes as well, and sets them nicely in place part-curled for a coat of mascara. I don't use any specific, special mascara after application, but I have found that Boots No7 Lift and Curve mascara (£10.30) does work well with it. I use the Perfector to define and slightly curl my lashes, and then the mascara finishes off my look nicely and naturally.
Similarly, you can brush your eye-brows into place, apply a brow pencil or powder, and then apply a very thin veneer of this gel to them. It holds them in place beautifully, and there is no sticky residue or clumping. It really does help define your brows so that they lift your eyes and frame your face.
~~ RECOMMENDATION ~~
And my verdict - this product comes highly recommended. It's ideal for taming your eyebrows. However, where it really comes into its own for me is using it on my lashes. I'm really impressed with how it conditions and moisturizes my lashes, so that I can achieve a more natural and glossy look. One light coating of mascara and I'm ready to face the world. No more that dry spindly spider leg look for me - I'm truly left with a set of glossy and natural looking lashes.
