Advantages: Great for eyebrows

Disadvantages: Not a great mascara, expensive

I first found out about clear mascara when I was in school as I was always looking for makeup to wear that didnt look like i had any on because they werent too happy about makeup in general. They went through phases of banning it and then not caring actually and pretty much I was left alone because I used a lot to try and cover spots. I think they just felt sorry for me and didnt mention it.

I could hardly wear a load of black mascara though and I remember reading in one of the teen mags about clear mascara which gave the same effect but looked natural and I read that you could tame your eyebrows with it too. I went and got 17's clear mascara and used it for years on my eyebrows and eyelashes. It didnt have the volumising effect of regular mascara but it was great for eyebrows.

Ive moved on now to No7's lash and brow perfector which costs 9.50 from boots. Quite expensive I know but there is a 3 for 2 offer on no7 products at the moment. It is a 7ml clear tube containing the applicator with a black screw lid that says no7 in gold on it. It is 12cm long in total and there is 8cm of a clear gel inside the clear tube portion. It is useful that its clear as you can see how much is left, unlike normal mascaras.

When you unscrew the top the brush comes out. The brush is 2.5cm long. If you hold the applicator brush up you can see it is like half a christmas tree shape. The bristles go outwards in a triangular shape down to the bottom on one side and the other side is just straight. So for your eyelashes you must use the sloped side of the brush. I think it is shaped like this so you get more gel on the outer edge of the brush and therefore more lift to the outer edge of your eyelashes.

The gel works best on my eyebrows, often I cannot get one of them to get into shape with a stardard eyebrow comb so I use this and just brush through and it grabs the out of place hairs into position and sets them there all day. You want to make sure you get it right the first time though as you can end up with the hairs set in an odd position that youll have to wash out and start again with. Also if you use too much the hairs can look a bit wet or gel like. It sets very well and can rub your eyebrows a lot and the hold will stay

Its also helpful if you want to pluck your eyebrows as you can brush them into the shape you want and then see which hairs need to be removed.

Of course it cannot colour in the end of your lashes so they look longer or add any volume to them but if you stroke the brush upwards from the roots you can get a more defined look to them and a little uplift.

One great advantage in it being clear is, no smudging, no running mascara, and no clumping. So if you make a mistake it doesnt matter and you dont need to wait for it to dry before you close your eyes or blink. Also another great thing, it doesnt dry out like a normal mascara.

Im not a big fan of using it as a mascara really as I want to have more of an effect than it provides so i just use it on my eyebrows.

Just using the tube once or twice a day at most it lasts a very long time. As its an eye product it has a 6 month life before you should change it. To be honest as I only use it on my eyebrows and not lashes I do keep them longer than this.

All in all for eyebrows its great but not so great for eyelashes.

Summary: Great for eyebrows
